Night Thread (aka. anyone NOT read Insurgent yet?)

It's taking all of my willpower not to open that thread. But I don't want to know any spoilers, so distract me?

Tell me what shoes you wear in the summer to work. I need some comfy shoes that I can wear with dresses/skirts (which I usually never wear.)  I'm thinking I can get away with fairly causal shoes, but not flip-flops or anything of course.

Re: Night Thread (aka. anyone NOT read Insurgent yet?)

  • I haven't read it yet! I got two pages in, and then felt like I didn't remember Divergent well enough, so I'm re-reading that first. :)

In the summer, I'm a fan of dressy capris and heels. I have a few skirts and dresses, but honestly, the office is so damned cold that I could wear pants and be just fine too.
  • Think you could get away with fancy flip flops? I never know if someone means old navy flip flops or actual material between two toes when they say flip flops.
    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • I don't even know what Insurgent is.

I'm working my other job tonight.  I also just discovered there is a .8 teaching job open for next year in a district about 10 miles south of me. I just applied for it! I know it's not a 1.0, but I'm guessing it'll be better pay and benefits tahn what I have now.  Plus there's no guarantee my current job will even be there this fall.
  • Chels- does your fiances job offer benefits just in case?
    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • I can wear flip flops, but I'll probably still wear tennis shoes most days (i play at the park and stuff a lot).  Today I wore flats.  My feet got sort of sweaty in them though, and it was gross.

I need to know how to stay halfway decent looking this summer at work.  I'll be outside a lot, so I'll be getting hot and sweaty, but I'll still have meetings and stuff to go to where I need to look semi-professional.  I don't know how to swing that.

Yeah.. they're not horribly awesome, but good enough for the time being. He's contracted right now. Hopefully soon he's pulled on cuz his benefits will be better.
  • Hmm, wedge heels are my go to, but I don't know if that's too casual/open for you.

When I used to work in an office I'd wear flats or flat sandals, like these:

I think some places might consider those flip flops though, they are pretty casual.

These are the kind I was thinking too. We were able to wear them at my school iti know some people consider them flip flops.

  • On the last couple of days of school I'll wear flat sandals like that, too.  At my summer job, anything goes, but I still dress up the most.

I just heard that a bear cub broke into a school in NJ.
  • I got these shoes for wearing with skirts to work:

    They're really comfortable.

Speaking of shoes, I tried on my wedding shoes again tonight. I swear they've shrunk a size since I bought them a month ago. They'll be headed back to the store this weekend and I'm wasting my night shoe shopping, again.

Yeah definitely. I try not to think about it, I have too much going on as it is.

It did hit me the other day that it's a very real possibility that I will be jobless come September.  I could also have multiple offers to choose from, who knows? I will know by July 1st at the latest what the fate of my current school is.

    Thanks :)
At this point though too, if we stay open, we're going to be under COMPLETELY new management.  The school will be very different in a good way.  A small part of me wants to stick around, because it would be AWESOME to be with the school if it takes off.
  • Chels that sucks that you won't know until July. I knew I was getting laid off in May..at least that gave me a little more time to get ready to move and start applying to OH jobs.  Sounds like a good idea to be applying for you.

  • I could probably get away with flats like that, especially if I pull the pregnancy+hot summer = sympathy thing. ;)  Normally those would be a 'maybe' in my office. The majority of my department is 50+ so they think anything cute is scandalous. ha

Our office is FREEZING in the summer, but I'll be out and about between the different halls/dorms on campus, so I'll be suffering in the heat too.

Good luck, chels! At least you have your FI's insurance to fall back on if needed.

oh, Nates- wedges are totally fine. I'm just not sure I want anything with a heel/wedge at all.  I'm also pretty sure my feet will be a size bigger, so I don't want to spend much on shoes.

    I'm picky.

ETA: I was looking at those in khaki, Celtic! Are they comfortable? Will my feet get really sweaty in them?
  • Chels, good luck with the job.  I hope it works out in whatever is the best way for you.

    Two Broke Girls sucks ass.
  • Yeah, I thought that after I posted, Steph. Heels might be the suck for you by then.  I always find Nine West ballet flats to be the most comfortable supportwise, but still cute and reasonable.  JCrew has cute ones, too, but they're super expensive.

Steph, I wore a lot of flats and kitten heels in the summer.  I had these flats and loved them.

  • You know what? I wear 3"-4" heels every day and have zero problems. I think I'm so used to them now that my body revolts against me if I wear flats. I was wearing flats for a week last month, and I would come home with backaches, swollen feet, swollen ankles, the works. I went back to my heels, and I'm back to normal.
  • That makes sense, Sept. If your body is used to heels, then they won't bother you.  I've never been a big heel-wearer though.

Yeah. I had never caught this one and it's brutal. Just the voices of the girls make me sick, but I feel like I can't look away. One girl's boobs are about to explode from her dress and Martha Stewart did a guest appearance. Hmm.

I am trying to figure out what to do with my mom for Mother's Day. She really wanted to go to this butterfly house, where the butterflies are loose and flying about and you can walk around with them. But that's going to take some planning.
