Love that you're donating blood!! ETA: Sorry we were out, you might have gone to bed already! But hit me up tomorrow if you want :)

Can I just tell you it means a lot to me to know that YOU remember that I usually go to bed stupid early on Wednesdays.. I've been doing this for months, and H still doesn't remember that!

My mom is O neg, and I'm O pos. H is O pos, and we were trying to figure out what blood type our offspring would have...I'm pretty sure it'd have O pos right? Annndd My dad is scared shittless of needles and faints at the sight of blood and he needs/wants to know what blood type he has. I told him that since Mom is O neg and I'm O pos, I think he could be any of them.. right? Plus since O neg is so rare my mom was like.. "huh.. how'd I get to be so special" Any insight? (I'll probably read it tomorrow.. It's WAYYY past my bedtime!! Stupid HW! but TIA)

I cannot tell a lie, it was offsite at work, which is the main reason I went. I mean, we have a great working relationship with the company but me PERSONALLY did not gain tons of knowledge nor did I have a need to be there. Hehe which is why I got bored. But anywayyyy I digress. Very glad it worked out AND you restocked on booze. Good for mr and mrs firsty!

Well don't give me tooo much credit, I pretty much assume you go to be early most nights :) Hehe.

Ok, you are correct on just about everything you posted. So with all heritable traits, when things are working "normally," you get half from your mom, half from your dad. Blood types are slightly complicated because there are two components--the letter, and the +/-, but they work the same way. I might need to PIP some diagrams... but first things first, your dad could be any of the blood types, but will definitely be "positive" whatever he is, since by process of elimination, you didn't get your + from your mom. (She's negative, meaning she has nothing to give, essentially).

You and H both look like this: O+O+ (imagine the red O+ came from your mom's DNA and the blue O+ came from your dad). So no matter how the chromosome line up and reassemble when you get pregnant, the only choices the fetus has are an O+. Therefore, 100% of your offspring will be O pos.

As for your mama, she's the universal donor, which means 100% of the population can accept her blood donation with no risk of clotting and that's a BIG deal. So tell her high five from me, and keep doing it!! As for how she got that, it depends on what her parents are, because someone with type "A" can still have half O, half A and still look "A." Does that make sense? But both of her parents are negative, because there's no other way to get that--a positive would always "dominate" a negative. Similarly, an A or B would always dominate an O, because all O really means is "no antigens present on your red blood cells." The terms type A and type B refer to the little "flags" on your blood cells, so O is just "no flags." I'm getting a little wordy here.....I love genetics.

Hah! That is awesome! I like her.

amh-We saw Luke Bryan and Easton Corbin in concert this year at our local fair. I took a sign that said "Can I have your babies?"

I think I want to recycle the sign and take it to an Eric Church concert. I love him as well.

Also, I hope this doesn't come across weird, but I want Carrie Underwood's legs. haha.

No CMAs for me. I only like the old country stuff (Garth Brooks mmmmm :] )

    oh goodness... Joe Paterno.. fired.
Idk if I really saw that happening. I kinda thought if it came down to that point, Penn State would just let him resign so he doesn't have to deal with such an awful turn after 50 years of coaching. O.o

I am not emotionally invested in Penn State by any means and I think I would have the same feelings if it were any other team. I may have an unpopular opinion on this and I might get flamed for this but I think the whole situation is messed up. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt in most situations and this one is no different. Do I think JoePa should have called authorities once he saw that the situation had not been carried through? Absolutely. However, I think we (including media and the Board of Trustees) are being extremely quick to judge in this situation. How do we know what happened when JoePa told the president? Maybe they told JoePa everything was taken care of. Maybe they threatened him. We don't know. If that wasn't the case and JoePa was 100% negligent then by all means, he was in the wrong and he should be fired. But I really think the Board of Trustees should have investigated this further before making such a decision.

If someone came to your husband and said, "hey... I saw a rape at the other squadron, I didn't know who to tell..." The police don't want to hear from your husband. That's hearsay. They want to hear from the guy that witnessed it. Your husband's job would be to go to his higher authority if he is unsure as to what he should do.. maybe even the MPs. But ultimately, it's needs to go to the big guy, from the mouth that witnessed. Your husband is to help with that, but that's really all he can do in the situation.
That's what Joe did. Joe told the campus authorities, as well as the guy above him. The Athletic directer told him it would be handled. Joe trusted in his superior and the authorities to handle it. He went back to doing his job, and assumed that people that are better trained to handle that situation than he is, would handle it as such.
I don't think he was out of line.. maybe he should be required to go through a class on how to handle these situations or something... But the guy didn't deserve to be FIRED over it. This is crap, and it makes me sad that he has to go out this way, when he was planning to retire this year anyway.
    :/

FTL I agree whole-heartedly. I just don't understand why people keep saying JoePa had a "blind-eye" to it. HE didn't. He reported it to whom he was required to report it to. What happened after that was beyond his control.

Irish- I love that you're more than slightly brilliant!! And Way to make me sound like a super lame loser who goes to bed really early every day!! Wink They act like my mom is the only person who's O- in this whole city!! I mean really they call her and tell her about every blood drive and so she always feels like she really should donate. Last time she went she was anemic and they wouldn't let her, but she's hoping that she's okay now. I donate as often as I can, especially when I was AD because they had blood drives that specifically went to deployed military. That makes me smile.

I think a lot of these things are often just taken to the extreme action as soon as it all blows up, regardless of what is completely factual. Look at any political scandal, they always resign before the truth comes out just because of public scrutiny. I do feel like Penn State didn't have a choice, whole truth or not. kwim?

Haha Sami I'll try to pay more attention to when you stay up late! :) I really geek out about DNA, which is just bizarre but I can't help it. As for your mom, it IS pretty rare and it's a really huge deal in the clinical sense, because if someone is bleeding out but unconscious, you have no way of knowing what blood type they are. And if you give them wrong one they will die very quickly. So your mom's type is a catch all, can't hurt anyone!! Super mom!!!

Penn State wanted to look like they cracked down on it so as not to offend their donation-horses. And they cracked down on the wrong person... They should have just let him resign, not fire him. ugh. This makes me so mad. And I don't even care about the team of college.

Well they fired the school president too. But the assistant coach needs to go too (I think? Now I'm getting confused) but if they're going to crack down on one, it need to be everyone, IMO. The whole thing is just sad, really. One of those lose-lose situations I think.

No the OLD assistant coach was the guy that was doing the molesting. As far as I know the the new(ish) assistant coach wasn't part of this at all.
Yeah I know they fired the president too. It's all a stunt in my opinion to not lose money.
The President? Why? I mean... He didn't know about any of it? What he suppose to magically know something was up? Even if you train your employees to be the best of the best, sometimes stuff happens, stuff slips through the cracks, stuff just doen't get taken care of properly. It's like the military firing a commander when a crewman effs up. Sure. I get that the commander was in charge, but he didn't personally have something to do with it.. He can't possibly be everywhere at once and babysit everyone.
Idk.. I mean.. I don't like that this old assistant coach got away with what he did.. It's horrifying and disgusting, but should that blame spread to other people that just had hearsay? I don't think so. I hate when actions of companies and schools are taken to please the shareholders (or people that donate). blah.
