[QUOTE]Not TK related - I think it's stupid that FBIL's parents got FS&BIL's kids an iPad for Christmas. FBIL was trying to talk all of us into pooling our allotted Hanukkah money to get the kids the damned thing for that. We all said no fucking way. So his parents get it for them. They're 6 and 4. What the fuckityfuck do little kids need an iPad for? They've already got free range on their parents' computers and iPod touches. Do they really need yet another piece of technology to play games on? Christ.

I'll co-sign this from a different family.  My sister's kids have a Wii, Playstation 2, Xbox, and were going to get a Playstation 3 for Christmas.  (They got new Nintento DSis instead.)
Buy the kids an effing bicycle and kick 'em outside!

Exactly! I didn't even mention the other gaming systems they have at home. When I was a kid, it was all about being outside. Now it's just technology and zombie kids. And it doesn't help that FBIL is a tech-head. I think he secretly wanted someone to buy that stupid iPad so that HE can play with it.

Yeah, and my sister's kids don't exactly take care of stuff.  And when it breaks, she'll replace it.

I bought her 4 year old Candyland for Christmas.  She bought it, too.  So I took the one I bought and said I'd excahnge it for Pretty, Pretty Princess.
    Her response?
"Oh, don't do that.  Let her keep it, that way if she loses a piece, she'll have a back-up."

no. NO. She needs to learn to take care of it, or it's gone.  forever.

I couldn't imagine them with iPads.

  • I dont know if this is a grievance but I took down the Christmas decorations yesterday and now im depressed. I miss them. What do I have to look forward to now? A wedding? I want Christmas back!

On the plus side, my eye is better and I was able to put my contacts in. I can finally see again!

That was my mom. She would ground me or send me to my room, and I'd just go read a book and be perfectly content. Drove her nuts, but no way would she ever take away my books. She never took away my computer either, since I wrote a lot, though she would say I couldn't use the Internet.
  • My Christmas shiit is usually down the next day. It depresses me more to see it up and be reminded that it's over than it does to take it all down.

  • I have so much to catch up on! H & I went to visit his grandma and the aunts, uncles and cousins to let them know about the little peanut. It was an awesome time, and we are back at my parent's place in NYC until tomorrow, when we will return home and dig out the house.

Non-TK related grievance - FIL's wife had the balls to ask H's grandmother to take down a family portrait that was taken about 25 years ago of all her children, their spouses, and grandchildren because MIL was in it (FIL & MIL divorced about 12 years ago). Eff you, you insecure beyotch. FIL & MIL were married for 25 years, and have two adult children. You can't deny that ever happenned. Guess what, no one in the family likes you, and this didn't help that. FIL used to be an awesome guy, and now he is miserable, and we know it is because of you.

Ha!  That reminds me of the Pizza Hut thing they used to do, where you'd get a coupon for a free personal pan pizza for reading a book and writing a page report on it.  I had like, 15 pizza coupons by winter break the first school year they did it.  I think they actually put a limit on the coupons you could get each school year due to me the next year.

  • I prefer to think that the little peanut is a grape this week, not an olive. I hate olives.

Oh, and as for books and reading, it warms my heart to see so many people that still love books. I love books, and can't imagine ever needing a Kindle/Nook. I have both apps on my phone because they are useful when I am reading in the car after dark or waiting for appointments, but otherwise I am a book girl all the way.

  • I love olives.  And I love them in my martinis.

So if I eat an olive that's been soaking in my martini is that the same as eating a drunk baby?  Or just a really pissed off baby covered in vodka?

I have a grievance with anyone who thinks it's either ereaders or normal books.  I have a Kindle and I love it.  However, I still go to the book store and buy regular old books.  I still love those as well.  The kindle just offers me easier access to books because they're at my fingertips.  I've read a lot more since I got my Kindle, and that can't be a bad thing.

  • Rho, it is okay. I have a Droid X, so it is a pretty big screen. It is my choice of last resort, when it is too dark or carrying a book around would be too bulky. The apps are free, and there are free book downloads, so give it a whirl.
