Need Venue Ideas/Where are YOU getting married??

Hi!

I'm relocating to the Greenwich area in the fall, and will be getting married next October. Any reccommendations on where to get married? Budget isn't really a concern.....

We will have guests traveling from NJ and MA.

Thanks in advance!

We are getting married at Mystic Seaport (in 3 1/2 weeks - ahhh!!!). Another girl on this board is getting married there the week after me, and I noticed a couple of 2012 Seaport brides on the board recently.

It's a great location for any kind of wedding from the informal clam bake at the Boat Shed on the grounds to the formal River Room ballroom inside with gorgeous views of the Mystic River. It also has the North Lawn to accompany the River Room weddings for an indoor/outdoor mix. For smaller weddings (less than 70 people), they have the upstairs Morgan Suites banquet rooms for a modest but still elegant wedding.

Plus, there are many bonuses. The site includes catering, because Coastal Gourmet is the group that runs the Latitude 41* restaurant (which is where these locations are housed, at the opening to the Seaport) and all the staff of Coastal Gourmet have been great to work with. Cake is basically included in your package, as Coastal Gourmet works with Mystic Market East (a bakery) and adds it to your banquet order rather than paying 2 separate vendors.

So many other bonuses to getting married here, and it sounds like, depending on where in NJ or MA your guests come from it's a good middle ground?

Either way, good luck with your hunt for a venue - feel free to PM me with any other questions :)

PS. I second Kate's Water's Edge vote too - I would have LOVED to get married there, but it's way out of my budget. But I'm from that area and LOVE LOVE LOVE it down there :)

We got married at Waters Edge Resort & Spa in Westbrook.

    http://www.watersedgeresortandspa.com/

Such a beautiful venue especially in the warm months. We had our ceremony and cocktail hour outside on the water and moved inside for the reception. They also include a lot of things in their packages.. the cake, onsite wedding coordinator, open bar, champagne toast, table linens, overnight accomodations for the bride and groom, facial or massage for the bride and groom at their spa, anniversary dinner for the next year.

Their food is amazing! At cocktail hour, along with the open bar, they offered a fruit, cheese, and cracker display, and 8 butler passed hors d'ouevres. Then for dinner, we had a choice of a plated meal or stations. We chose stations and had a carving station with prime rib, ham, and turkey, a tuscan station, a pasta station, and a summer grille station.

This would also be a great location since you have guests coming from NJ and MA and it would be kind of a halfway point down on the shoreline.

Lots of pictures in my married bio (link in my siggy) of how it came out.

I'm the other Mystic bride getting married the week after Karebear and couldn't agree more with everything she said already!!

Otherwise, what kinds of places are you interested in: ballroom, city, water view, vineyards, etc...

We're getting married at the Seasons at the Tradition in Wallingford. It has a BEAUTIFUL interior space (we're having a winter wedding) and also plenty of room outside for an outdoor ceremony or cocktail hour.

We're pretty excited to get married there - although I haven't seen any other Seasons brides around here.

We are getting married at the Branford House in Groton. It's a beautiful old mansion that is right on the water. There is a great patio where we are having our cocktail hour and dinner will be served inside. You can also put tents out on the lawn and have dinner outside. Inside holds about 150 seated but the lawn can hold much more. Good luck! PIP

I am getting married at the Society Room of Hartford. I love the venue, it is a really beautiful, classy building and the architecture is fabulous. I have loved the support that I have gotten from the staff there so far! They have reached out to all of my vendors to coordinate everything. Not to mention they have these AWESOME "mock wedding" events in which you get to try all the different foods, sample cakes, see the tables made up all differently so you can see what you like and meet with some vendors. We are using the Society Room both for our ceremony and our reception and I couldn't be more excited!

We're getting married at the Riverhouse in Haddam. We are having the ceremony and reception here. It is the "sister site" to the Society Room in Hartford. One ceremony at a time, beautiful inside, great food, and the staff takes care of everything! So many options available to make it a really special day!

I'm getting married at St. Clements Castle in Portland, CT. But if budget wasn't a concern I'd get married in Newport, RI.

I am getting married at the Barns at Wesleyan Hills in Middletown. The CT wedding group which runs the Barns also does the Wadsworth Mansion and Pavilion at Crystal Lake in Middletown. Another nice location is St. Clements Castle in Portland, CT

Also getting married at the Mystic Seaport, River Room. it was a great location since we live in Boston and so does his family and a lot of our friends, while most of my family lives in NY and Souther CT. It was a good middlepoint.

Also, my friend is getting married at the Inn and Longshore next July. Place is beautiful, but already booked up for 2012 summers. But definitely worth looking into if you want to stay in the Greenwich area.

I am getting married at Woodwinds in Branford. There are 2 rooms and plenty of space for indoor and outdoor cocktail hour. If you choose to get married outside, there are 3 locations you can choose: in front of the waterfall, in the garden, or in the gazebo. We have sooooo much included in our package that I can't even begin to name. The website is : www.thewoodwinds.com if you want to check it out.

Also, I suggest Water's Edge. Aside from the fact that I work there and I didn't want to get married there where my coworkers would be popping in at any time, it's got beautiful views. My cousin wanted to get married there, but it was out of her budget. If you don't have a budget issue, then definitely check it out. They can accomodate parties of all sizes.

I'm getting married at St. Clements Castle in Portland, CT. I love it but you might not want to go that far. Our second choice was Dolce in Norwalk. It's so nice! You should check it out.

Since you'll be in Greenwich, you should check the places along the water in New Rochelle. Surf Club and Glen Island are very nice. People have also recommended Doral Arrowwood in Rye and Mamaroneck Yacht and Beach Club.

    Good luck!

Not sure on your guest size but....

Ditto to this! Also look into Glen Island, Greentree Country Club, Marina del Ray, VIP--that whole strip has some great venues!! Definitely pricey but worth it!

We are using Cascades in Hamden!!
     http://www.cascade-banquets.com/ordereze/intro.html

We LOVE LOVE LOVE it there! The staff has been nothing but accomidating and willing to go above and beyond our needs!! Their ballroom is gorgeous and their waterfall patio is so perfect! We have been to a ton of their brunches over our 2.5 year engagement and each time we go back the food blows us away!

Highly highly recommend Cascades without a doubt! Phenomenial venue!!

We got married at the Mystic Aquarium! Well, actually we just had our reception there, although they do ceremonies as well. All of our guests kept saying what a unique place it was for a wedding, and we had a blast! They do a lot of evening events, and the food was AMAZING. At our buffet, we had prime rib, ravioli in lobster cream sauce, and lemon pepper chicken - they were all super delicious. The passed hors d'oeuvres were equally tasty. And we got to hang out with the beluga whales outside!

We really have no regrets about choosing our location, we had an amazing party that people will be talking about for a long time. And their prices were really reasonable, pretty similar overall to the Seaport. Feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions!

I'm also a Saint Clements Castle bride...it was the only place I could see myself getting married. Right on the river and they have excellent reviews. Everyone I tell that I'm getting married there has a story about an awesome experience they've had there! Love hearing that personal testimony.

We got married at the Gershon Fox Room in Hartford, CT. (marquee-ct.com) It's an old art deco building that they turned into an event space. The coordinators there are amazing, and the chef is famous in CT, having worked in many restaurants, so if you're a foodie this is the place. They will custom design and change anything on the menu for you. Our second choice was the Society Room in Hartford as well, someone else mentioned this already, we loved that too has lots of character, but didn't have enough space for our guests. Good luck with your search!

we are getting married at Old Saybrook Point Inn. My last decision was between Old Saybrook Point Inn and Waters Edge. I went with SPI b/c they could only do 1 wedding at a time and i really liked the planner. SPI is more expensive them Waters Edge but i think the personal attention and 1 event makes it worth it :)

We are getting married at the Inn at Longshore in Westport, CT. It's a beautiful place right on the water with gorgeously maintained grounds. The food is delicious and the nice thing is that they only host one wedding at a time, so you get the full attention of the staff and there is no chance of weddings running into each other. The coordinator is very helpful.

Ditto this but the opposite order -- we're getting married at Dolce in Norwalk, but St. Clement's was our 2nd choice. Both are awesome and have their advantages and disadvantages that really boil down to your personal choice and preferences. GL!
