NWR- What do you do?

Good afternoon ladies! I'm bored at work and thought it might be interesting as a 'get to you know you' to see what everyone does for a living (besides from wedding planning which many of us know can be very time consuming!) :)

I have my bachelors of social work from Michigan State and my masters of social work from the University of Michigan. I live in Houston, working for a state mental health agency. I do intake assessments- so I'm meeting with adults/children to provide an initial mental health diagnosis. Eventually, I want to do private practice or be in a setting where I can do individual therapy.

What do you do? :)

  • Well I used to work at a grocery store. But I'm now working as a front desk associate at Massage Envy. And, I have to say, I actually really like it. It's weird having a job I like... lol
  • You're making me want to go to massage envy now..

  • I am a loan officer and president of our community outreach program (a national bank). I also go to school full time for business administration and hope to go on to get my masters when I graduate in a year. Busy busy! :)

  • I'm a tour guide!  I've got a bachelor's in Theatre, but I decided to go back to school to try to get into med school.

  • I graduated with a bachelors in psych in 2008 and decided shortly after that i wanted nothing to do with the field. I work at a grocery store as an admin (pricing) and am pretty content. FI & I have decided i'll be at SAHM once we have kids so i'm just biding my time until then.

  • I have a B.A. from Miami University in political science, and had to look for a job after the gov't did a hiring freeze. I'm a patient financial rep for the children's hospital here in Cincy. I basically try to finish out accounts for kids so they get the smallest bill possible and send the bad stuff to collections. Most people wouldn't like it, but I actually feel like I'm helping families as much as I can with something so big financially.

Love hearing what other girls do!
  • I graduated with a bachelor's in communications and I work at a software company now, assisting sales reps. No direct selling for me, which is awesome! I get them samples and schedule demos of our product.

  • Everyone has such varied jobs! I have a BS in biology and now I'm working on a doctorate in neuroscience so that's my full time job. Our lab models neurodegenerative diseases in the fruit fly brain like Alzheimer's disease so that we can learn more about them. FI does software design for the military (civilian). I should finish sometime next year after the wedding and I'd like to get a sweet research job for either a pharma company or the government. I'd really just like to make as much (or more!) money than FI so I can hold it over his head :)

  • Shut the front door! I was totally wondering this same question the other day!

Anyways, I just graduated with my Bachelors in Psych in May and I am currently in grad school for Special Ed. I  have been providing ABA therapy to children with autism in home for 5 years and this summer I began working for a private clinic as well. I also provide respite care for children with autism.

:) This is so fun! We are all so different! Love it!

  • I have my Master's in Special Education from the University of Connecticut. I live in New Orleans and coordinate a program for students with intellectual disabilities (used to be called mental retardation- but that's a SUPER outdated term). The students are 18-21 and go to a local community college full time... and they're fully included! No special classes!

If I had my DREAM job I'd own my own bridal boutique ;);)

I am finishing up my BA in Business Management with a minor in International Business this spring. Its been a long road, as I have changed my major about three times and have had to start all over again. Better late then never though! I will be continuing on into an MBA program. In the mean time, I take care of two precious little girls during the day. They are my world and therefore finally finishing up my degree is bittersweet. I will be glad to start a career but sad to leave the girls behind.

  • I am currently working as an insurance broker full time just to make some extra cash, will be leaving that in the near future (home and auto insurance).
FI and I own our own business (they were seperate and have combined since we got engaged, that's how we met, at business meetings) in informational marketting and leadership development. That's what I will continue to do after leaving the brokerage.
  • I have a doctorate in computational biology. My research uses computers to do predictive modeling related to cancer.
  • I recently became a SAHM to 3.  I was working for an investment firm. FI was my boss... I was relocated (against FI's wishes) an hour away so financially and for our family it made sense for me to quit.

  • I am finishing up my Masters in occupational therapy (12/16 I'm all done!) at Quinnipaic University right now. I will be working as a pediatric occupational therapist starting in early January. I will be working with kids who have sensory processing deficits, feeding sensitivities, vision problems, etc. I had a clinical there this summer for three months and I LOVED it... Im so excited to go back there and play with some awesome kids all day :)

  • I am a public servant - yup I sold my soul about 2.5 years ago and joined the Federal Government. I'm the assistant to the Director General of the Centre for Immunization and Respiratory Infectious Diseases for the Public Health Agency of Canada. Sounds important eh? haha. Well it kind of is.... we handle outbreaks and pandemics so it's a really interesting and fast environment (sometimes a lil too chaotic).

I used to be an event planner at a local college. I used plan and run big events like orientation, concerts, fairs, etc... I also did the graphic work. It was SO much fun and I loved it. It just didn't provide my son and I the security we needed.

  • I was a pre-k and k teacher for a few years before I was laid off for being the youngest and last hired teacher.

After that I became a cosmetologist.

Right now I run a store for a major distributor in NE.  I also am an educator and travel around NE teaching stylists anything from new trends in hair color, updo's, straightening systems etc.

On the weekends I do updos for friends and families for weddings.  I haven't really branched out publicly.  Its just word of mouth, but I've been getting more and more business.

I hope to one day get back into working with children and do hair on the side.
  • I work for a payroll company. I don't love my job, but I do work for a great company that offers amazing benefits. FI is the sales manager at a different payroll company *not a competitor*. That's how we met. Anyway, FI used to work in real estate before the market tanked. He still gets inquiries from past clients and friends that he has to turn away because of his full time job. We have talked it through and realized that if I get my real estate license and sell 2 houses a year, I would make well over what I do now and I would significantly increase tax write offs. Luckily we have a friend in the insurance business, so I would be good there. We figured that I would ultimately become a SAHM, so this is a wise move. I will have the freedom to be home with my children, only leaving them with their grandparents when I set up a few appointments during the week. Love this post! So fun to learn more about everyone!
  • I just finished my MA in Education and am currently SEARCHING for a Social Studies teaching position (preferably middle school) but I may return to school for a cross certification in elementary education or special education.

Currently, I am working at a NPO in a DCF funded program called Work to Learn. I teach foster youth (ages 14-23) Life Skills classes (commication; social relationships; self care; career planning; work & study skills; financial literacy); Tutor them and coordinate other programming. I like my job and love the kids, but I really wish I could get into a classroom.
  • I got my BS in computer science. I now work as a software engineer (at motorola). i like it alot, except that i'm pretty much the only girl. i wish i could make work friends that were girls!
    Happily married since 9/1/2012!

  • I have a Bachelor's in Biology with a second major in International Relations and a Master's in Public Administration with a focus on healthcare policy (like an MBA but you work for the government or nonprofits mostly).

I used to write laws and work for the state legislature but left that and now sell my soul working as a credit analyst for a big credit card company in a call center.  I hate it and am hoping to leave in the next month if the FI or I get jobs back home...

  • I graduated with a BA in Digital Art/Graphic in Design from Elon University in May 2010.  I moved from my hometown to live with FI and had a really hard time finding a position in my field.  I ended up working at a cupcake bakery (not nearly as fun as it sounds) before I was laid off so the owner could hire her niece (sucks).  I've been unemployed since May and I'm freaking out.  I'm seriously considering going back to school to be a dental hygenist.

  • I'm a casino bartender on and Indian reservation in Arizona. I used to work in Nevada where I live, but found a job and boss that I love in Arizona.... so I commute every weekend to work in AZ. I was a victim of career ADD after highschool, which led to an associates in education and a bachelors in criminal justice.
