Groom & Groomsmen Attire

I am wearing a Vera Wang ivory sheath dress with a black sash. The ceremony is taking place in a botanical garden and the reception at my fiance's parent's house by the ocean. The bridesmaids are wearing different color pastel cocktail dresses with floral motifs. What should the groomsmen wear? Or, the groom for that matter? I was thinking of khaki pants and navy blazers for the groomsmen with different color pastel ties... But what would my groom wear in this scenario? Would navy clash with my black sash?

I don't think navy would clash with your black sash, but how formal is your ceremony?  Your dress sounds beautiful, can you post a pic?  What does your FI want to wear?  Does he want to wear a suit or does he want to wear a tux or is he just leaving it up to you?

I was VERY surprised when we went looking for dress options for my FI, that he had very specific things in mind for his BMs and for himself.  Make sure you involve him in these conversations.
  • Eh, I wouldn't worry about it too much.  Is black an intrical part of your wedding palette?  You can have the men wear black ties, or black flowers in their bouts., etc.  It could work.

  • What does the groom want them to wear?  The attire for the guys is generally his call unless he's told you that he doesn't care.

I think most brides tend to forget that colors can only really "clash" within the same outfit.  Generally the only time in her life a woman will exactly match her escort is at prom.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Have you thought about tan suits? I would be worried about black vs. navy, and navy blazers are difficult to match and expensive if you're going to ask each guy to buy a new one. We're doing a garden-backyard wedding and my fiance is doing tan suits with his guys (all 9) and they actually got a GREAT deal at Jos A Bank (they do a sale a few times a year, buy one suit, get two for $99 each!) All of the guys' suits were $99! We also found these great ties from Brooks Brothers (on sale the day after Thanksgiving) that are lime green with pink and blue stripes. Hard to explain, but they match our palette perfectly! To stand out, my fi is wearing a coffee check Burberry tie. I think a Burberry tie would look AWESOME with the Vera Wang dress, esp. with the sash!
