Photographers

A friend of mine is getting married next July, and needs photog recs.  I know every other week someone is asking for "reasonable photographers" but no one ever puts down a price or expectations, so I'm not exactly sure who to reccommend.

So here are the stats:  she wants a photographer for $2,000 or under.   Rights to her own photography is a must, as well as a photo album.  Second shooter would be a major plus.

Go.

Well an album is hard to come by with second shooter and under 2k... my photog is this but no album. (sharyn frenkel)

Does she want someone good? If so, she needs to way up her budget. If not, then go with Perfect Day or The Pros. Kara Loomis is OK and she is under that price.

I'm using Jason Rhee, who is out of North Jersey, but he is traveling to Cinnaminson, NJ for my wedding.  www.jasonrhee.com. A second shooter is extra, I think $700.  He is very flexible on the package, so she might be able to get rid of some stuff and add the second shooter, and end up at $2000.  He waived the travel fee for me, but it may be included if he has to go far into PA.

This is his middle tier package for $1700:

Full One day Shooting w/ (No Time Restriction)
One Premium Album -30 10”x10” w/ Custom Page Design
One Premium Album -20 8“x8” w/ Custom Page Design
Wall Portrait -3 11”x14” Custom Prints
Wall Portrait -1 20”x24” Custom Print
    Complete set of 4”x6” Proofs
    Unlimited Photos
50 Custom Design Thank you Cards
    A Hard Copy (DVD) of
    Full resolution Images & Web.

This is his lower tier package for $1200:
Full One day Shooting w/ (No Time Restriction)
One Premium Album -20 8”x8” w/ Custom Page Design
Wall Portrait -3 11”x14” Custom Prints
    Complete set of 4”x6” Proofs
    Unlimited Photos
    A Hard Copy (CD) of

No, she would much prefer someone with a disposable camera whose finger is constantly over the flash.

I would be absolutely recommend Amy Tucker Photography. We met with Amy but decided to go with another photographer.  She was great and it was definitely not an easy decision. Her packages are really affordable. They range from $800-$3,000 and all include the copyright and DVD of images.

She has her pricing information under the "information" tab.

Cheese and crackers. Good one. I simply meant that as sarcastic. I have yet to find a good photographer for less than $2500. $2000 is a joke especially if she wants an album and two photographers. What photographer worth anything would work for that cheap. I know. A cheap one.

Liz Warnek. While I can't fully fully recommend her as my wedding hasn't occured yet, her portfolio is fabulous! I'm going with the full shebang package and it's more than $2,000 - but she's negotiable and has a few packages as well as add ons.

    http://lizwarnek-philadelphia-wedding-photography.com/

She's super sweet and very easy going.

I don't know how much Marc Anthony is but he's good and reasonable. One of my BMs is going with Pravada and I know she gets the rights and an album and I think it was in the same budget.

Erin Keough Photography.  She's on facebook "Er!n Keough Photography" if you want to see some of her work.  She's under 2.000 and gives you a disc with rights to copy and I <3 her.  She has a website too but I don't know it off the top of my head.

I am going with Photography by Leah, but she is based out of Elkton MD. Her top top package is about 2800. but her middle package is very reasonable at 2250 i think and her second shooter option is only 200. No albums though although her top package has coffee table books in it. She comes to your rehersal though and her travel fees arent that bad. I just hired her for my wedding in North Wales PA and she said that it would be like the cost of a tank of gas. so not bad at all IMO :D.

Marc is more then 2k for not even an album, but he is great. His base price is 2900.00 http://www.marcanthonyphoto.com/prices.htm

Kara Loomis just did a family portraite session for me, and I really really liked her, she was very friendly and the pictures are beautiful.

    http://blog.karaloomisphotography.com/?p=890

You can also show her weddings she has done on the blog.

http://karaloomisphotography.com/2011-weddings - her pricing seems a bit over budget too.

I was originally going to go with Ryan O Photography, he did a friend of ours wedding, and the pictures were nice, but I fell in love with sarah's work and upped our budget, she may want to look into him though. DH loved him and that's why we were orig. going to go with him.

    http://www.rhinosart.com/wedding/index.html

In 2009 you got 1 photog. all day shooting. 200-300 proofs, and an 11x14 for $1350.00

Two photographers, 350-425 proofs in a proof album, two 8x10 and one 11x14 for $ 1950.00

His CD cost 250.00 in 2009 as well. I'm sure his prices went up a bit, but you could probably get one photog. with the cd for under 2k...

I HIGHLY recommend our photographer, Stephanie Glover.  She is AMAZING!

Rights to the photos, second shooter, e session, guestbook, album, all day coverage- $1700.  We cut the e session, guestbook, and album and paid $1300.

    http://www.sgphotos.net/

She was wonderful to work with, easy going, got the shots, worked all night, just really great photos....HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend!  Switching to her was the best decision we made regarding our vendors, hands down.

I felt the same way, NCV.  Everyone's taste is different.  Personally, none of my faves are in the $2,000 range anymore, which is a shame. Even when I was getting married, I thought I would be able to keep things under 2 grand, and then I upped my budget to $2500 and then $3000 so I would get everything I wanted (albums, etc.)  Keep in mind it's also not unusual for a lot of the more popular wedding photographers to up their prices by at least a few hundred per year  There are a lot of reasons behind it, but the sticker shock was intersting for me to find out for the first time.

Was it hil or tacco who used Eric Matey?  I didn't look into him back in the day, but her photos were gorgeous. Since he wasn't talked about a few years ago he may still be the right price for your friend, Amer.

I used Lewis Rinaman Photography. Our package was slightly higher than her budget though -- it was $2495. We got the following:

    8 Hours of Coverage
    10x10 Album with 24 Sides
Hi-Res DVD with the Rights to all Photos
    Proof Book with 300-400 Images
    2nd Photographer
    4 Month Website
    $350 Print Credit

I'm sure she could tweak the packages too -- or they had cheaper packages.

I would recommend BlackSilver Imaging. They're very reasonably priced, usually include a second shooter and a videographer in most of their packages, and I believe you get the rights to all of your photos. I'm using them next year, so I can't attest to how awesome they are personally, but a few of my friends have used them, and their pictures came out amazing.

I think by looking at your pictures my point is proven. I don't want to seem rude because I am really nice but don't say I don't know NOTHING. I want artistic, someone who knows lighting, unconventional, and non traditional. You CAN'T get that for under $2500. Your pictures are nice but I chose a photographer with style. And to get style you have to pay for it. It's that simple.
