Wedding Invitations & Paper

Save the Dates vs. Invitations

Hi all!

My fiance and I decided to get married at Niagara Falls and after long discussions, we've also decided that the wedding & simple dinner reception at the falls is going to be intimate (no more than 25 people). In an effort to include all of our friends and family in the celebration, when we return home in FL, we're planning on having an informal barbecue reception/party. Now here's my dilemma...I had planned on sending Save the Dates to the Niagara Falls guests, but should I send them to the FL guests as well? I feel like if the FL guests get a Save the Date, they'll be expecting a wedding, so should I just skip the Save the Dates and send them invitations instead? I had planned on wording it something like this: "We're getting married in an intimate ceremony in NY on April 27, 2014, but we would like to share our special day with you so you are invited to an informal barbecue reception" I don't know...something along those lines.

Please help! Thoughts, ideas, ect are welcome! :)

Re: Save the Dates vs. Invitations

  • I would not send a save the date for your at home party. If anything, I think it'll just remind people that there's a wedding ceremony happening elsewhere, and they aren't invited to it.

  • Although the BBQ in Florida is not part of your wedding - if the event is important enough to you, make sure to send invitations well in advance of the party. You could even do a fun Niagara Falls postcard with all the BBQ event details on the reverse side. You should make these people feel special too, even though they could not attend your ceremony - it's still a celebration of your new life together!
I believe in specially designed invitations for one of a kind events! http://www.invitationdesignbymorgan.com
