Spray Tan?

So I want to do a spray tan for my wedding, since it is in April and I won't be tan. I'm concerned, however, of it rubbing off on my dress.

My question: how long before I put my dress on should I do the spray tan? I'm at least doing it the day before (for the rehearsal!).

Re: Spray Tan?

  • I'm spray tanning for my wedding also. I will get my spray tan on Thursday evening for a Saturday wedding. Besides it rubbing off on your dress you have to remember that you can't sweat or get wet for like 6 hours after you do it. If you are having a rehearsal the night before or setting stuff up you aren't going to want to spray tan right before that.

I did a couple of practice runs with the time frame I was looking at to make sure it would still look good and wouldn't rub off on my dress. I would recommend doing that so that you can be sure when you want to do the spray tan for the best results.

  • I did a spray tan to hide my summer tan lines. They recommended doing it two days prior. The reason being is that you need to wait as long as possible before showering after getting it done. They said you don't want to worry about sweating while you are running around the day before your wedding or at the rehersal, or heaven forbid you cry at the rehersal. Any sweat or tears done on the same day will cause the dye to run & give you streaks. My spray tan lasted almost two weeks so I was find doing it actually 3 days before the wedding. I did spray tan on wednesday, got a massage on Friday & still looked great on Saturday for the ceremony. I did a practice run weeks before to figure out how dark it would turn out to see if I would need to adjust the coloring for the wedding. I will warn you that even with getting my tan on Wednesday night before my wedding, I still had dye come off on my dress. It was at the top at the neckline (strapless dress) and the waist of my slip. It was from sweating & dancing, the rubbing of the dress & slip on my body still caused some dye to come off. The good news is, it all came out after being cleaned.
  • My friend just recently got married (August) and she spray tanned on a Tuesday and the wedding was on a Saturday. She followed all the 'rules' that go along with spray tanning and it still rubbed off on her dress. It was very noticeable even right after the ceremony. Many of us picked up on it during the receiving line. By the end of the night there was a serious discoloration of the dress.

Maybe do a trial run of a spray tan and wear a tight white shirt a few weeks before?
  • DO NOT DO IT THE DAY OF YOUR REHEARSAL!!! I would do a spray tan atleast 3-5 days before your wedding, it takes 24 hours for the actual color to show up!! You don't want to be at your rehearsal and realize that you missed a spot or the color is too orange or you have bad stains on your hands.... Not to mention it WILL rub off on your rehearsal clothing. You also cannot shower for 4-6 hours after your spray tan so unless you want to get it done really early in the morning and have your rehearsal really late this won't work. No to mention you will actually smell like a spray tan for about 24 hours afte you get it done. That being said if you do get sweaty some color will rub off no matter what so just be prepared. Good luck!

I've worked in a tanning salon and we had a lot of brides come in for a spray before their wedding!
  • I've also heard of plenty of women getting spray tans earlier in the week and it still rubbing off.  Why not go for a test run if you're concerned?
  • Hi ladies! I'm a certified spray tech so if you have any questions ask away!! I can tell you that I have a rather new rapid solution that's allows you to have a bit more control of your color. You can shower in as little as 1 hour or leave it on for up to 4 depending on the color you want. And as for the smell the solution I use smells amazing all my clients are shocked there so used to the stinky spray tan solution lol.
  • I'm thinking of doing the same, now not so sure from everyone saying it came off on their dress!

What kind of solution is it?
  • I didn't do a spray tan for that reason - thought it would rub off on my dress. Also someone I know got a spray tan before their wedding and they look slightly orange in all of the pictures... :S
  • I would recommend going 2 days before to an Airbrush salon, not a regular tanning salon with spray tan booths. I've never had problems with an Airbrush tan rubbing off on clothes after the initial shower after waiting the recommended 8-12 hours.

So much this!!! This is exactly what I am doing. Thursday spray tan for Saturday wedding and I'm going to a place where they actually spray you with an airbrush gun instead of just a booth.

Just don't panic, the first couple hours after you get the airbrush spray, it looks way darker than it winds up being after the first shower. I got one a few weeks ago for a boudoir session and I almost freaked when I saw how dark I looked, especially my face! I was so relieved to see how natural it looked the next day! Remember to exfoliate the day of the tan and moisturize a lot afterwards! Enjoy!
