Davids Bridal - shipping to different store

Does anyone know if it's possible to try on / purchase a dress at one DB location and have the dress actual ordered/shipped to another location? One family member (and they are paying, so I must accommodate them) is really making the process of appointment scheduling incredibly stressful. I basically have to do it all in one long weekend (long-distance family), most of the places near-ish (thx Knot vendor search) are closed Sun and Mom, and basically ughhh. Anyway. I have the option of 2 locations, one is significantly further from home but very close to the Alfred Angelo store I'd really like to visit (but having trouble selling this relative on), the other is closer to me but about 40 min from the AA. It would make my life so much easier if I could shop at the further DB but then do fittings closer to home (in addition to convenience, family member will not stop lecturing me on how I don't understand how hard it'll be to drive 45 min for fitting so I really don't want to deal with that). Would just appreciate anything you all might know about this. In combo with fight over bridesmaids dresses this morning, I'm almost ready to show up in a plain old sundress (and I am a big, vintage dress kind of girl, but seriously, going insane here!)

Re: Davids Bridal - shipping to different store

  • When I asked about store to store shipping, they said no.  Stupid policy, IMO.

  • Ugh, that's so frustrating! Guess I'll just have to figure something else out. Thanks though for letting me know.
  • Yes, it is.  They said that you had to buy the dress first...  It's annoying and not very customer friendly, for sure.  Good luck!

  • My MOH tried on one dress at a DB store in Ohio, purchased it, and it had it shipped to her home in a Virginia. Maybe they weren't supposed to, but we had no problem getting it shipped directly to her!
  • The David's Bridal stores are independently owned and operated through the franchise.  They do not co-operate with each other.  They all get their merchandize through DB's factories.
Is your dress in their catalog?  You can order it to be delivered to your home if it is.

  • I see -- I didn't realize that's how the stores were set up. That policy makes more sense, then. Do you know if they will do alterations for dresses you get delivered to your house instead of the store? At this point it's just a hypothetical dress, as I haven't picked one yet, but in theory if/once I found one that might be an option. I'm really stressing at this point about being able to visit enough stores in this 3 day period and just trying to make it work in a way that will circumvent as much arguing/yelling as possible. I should probably find my way over to the 'how not to be a doormat to my relatives' thread...
  • Thanks, Alikat9614 -- good to hear about someone managing to get around this!
  • I had my db dress shipped directly to my home for free so now I can take it anywhere for fittings.

  • I purchased my dress online during their annual $99 sale and contacted Davids Bridal online. They said that I can make an appointment and take my dress to any David's bridal about 8 or so weeks prior to the wedding. Maybe if you choose a dress in store, look it up and see if you can get it online. Plus, then you know nobody else has tried it on.

  • I purchased my dress at a DB about an hour away from my home. I went to that one because it was close to another store that I also wanted to visit. I ended up purchasing it there. I picked it up from that store, but then I took it to the store that's 15 minutes away from me to have it altered. I didn't have any problems doing that. DB won't store the dress for you anyways so once it comes in you will have to take it home with you and bring it back for alterations later so you can take it to any DB for that since the dress will already be in your possession.

  • As others have said, DB are all individual entities. But once you buy your dress, and have it in your possession, you can take it anywhere for fittings. I believe the fittings departments are also essentially separate entities from the DB stores, so you should be able to take it to any DB fittings department. However, I have been told by many brides that the DB alterations cost a fortune and aren't very good... you may be best off just looking at all of your options for a local seamstress (including the local DB) and see who may have availability and good prices.
