Duggar baby news

Beside the fact it's ridiculous they have to annouce this on national TV, this comment really makes me stabby.  Pretty much sums up how they view women.

"As a new dad, to have a firstborn son to be our first child and be the leader of his siblings, it is very special," he said.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

Re: Duggar baby news

  • I was watching a Duggar marathon the other day (some of the most recent episodes leading up to Jill's wedding) and I found myself feeling really uncomfortable.  That family just creeps me out.

  • For the record, I'm the first born (if you didn't know I'm female).  My sister was next.  Then twin boys.

My sister is the leader.  I'm a close 2nd.  You would not think of my brothers as leaders.   Especially the "younger" of the 2.

  • Yeah that comment didn't sit well with me either.

    Barf. Ugg.

This family annoys me to no end.
    Anniversary
  • My oldest sibling is a boy, but if he were our "leader" we would ALL be in trouble!
  • I still think Jana is the only one with a brain in her head. Girl knows her job is getting easier at home as the kids grow up, so she's not running out to get married and start all over again with a husband and innumerable babies to take care of. She'd never admit it, but I bet somewhere in the back of her mind, she's thought about it and realizes that the longer she puts off getting married, the fewer kids she'll have to have herself.

I watch 19 Kids with a kind of fascinated nausea, and I feel terrible for those girls. I mean, the boys have their own set of ridiculous guidelines to adhere to and probably hate themselves every time they think about anything "dirty" and are going to have to work like crazy to provide for their eventual huge families...but the girls have all that moral/religious baggage plus are the ones changing diapers and being told to always, always obey men's authority.

I wouldn't wish their lives on anyone, happy as they look from the outside.

  • Eh, I don't have a problem with them. I generally have a "live and let live" attitude. If they're happy, fine. If any of those girls aren't happy, they can find a boy, have premarital sex, and run off to some other state and live how they want. Surely all the parents would do is pray hard for them, not run after them with a rifle.

I'm actually morbidly fascinated to watch Jill's wedding episode.

  • That quote about the first-born definitely made me raise my eyebrows.  My dad is the 2nd born in his family and he's the one I consider to be the "leader" of them.

If I told my siblings that I was their "leader" (I'm the oldest), they'd probably be very fast to put me in my place.
  • I could totally see Mommy Duggar getting pregnant again at the same time as one of her daughters. Reality TV gold.
  • My dad is the youngest of 5, and the rest are girls. He's not the leader, leadership comes from personality, not anatomy.

  • They seem happy so I guess I'm happy for them.

I have to say the creepiest moment of watching the Duggars was when Michelle had her miscarriage.  I heard that they are not allowed to show that they are upset or unhappy because it is disrespectful to the lord for giving them that precious life. I, then, saw a rerun of the episode where Michelle lost the baby and she did not frown the entire time. She was crying, but smiled when telling her kids the news.  It was extremely upsetting to me, that in a moment of intense grief, she is not allowed to portray any sentiment of unhappiness. Since then, and the courtship episodes where your youngest brother gets to be the girls' boss when these girls are 21 years old, and he is their authority and chaperone, I dry heave every time I see their shows.  I'm sure their couches get treated with more respect than the Duggar girls.
  • They are just creepy :/. What is blanket training? The name alone sounds wacky.
  • Having had a very unfortunate meeting with the cult, yeah. I only think hideously inappropriate names towards them. Hey Evil Bitch and Whacked Out Creep - raise your own damn crotch spawn. Don't make older crotch spawn do the job. And fuck blanket training sideways. That's not parenting, that's child abuse. That's me at my absolute nicest towards them.
Favorite thing I've read on the internet today!

  • It bothers me that these girls are expected to instantly start their own large family... and the attitude that girls are only good for procreation and motherhood.  Even Michelle & Jim Bob didn't have kids right away.  Michelle was on birth control after they got married and they waited four years to have kids! Yet, it's kind of assumed and expected that the kids will get married and immediately have babies and will of course choose to have 20+ kids of their own. And so far they seem to be living up to that expectation.

And yeah, that comment about men being the leaders is kind of disturbing.
