Re: What are your goals for the next 1 year?

  • For any of you ladies that like the cold, I highly recommend going to the arctic to see the Northern Lights.  It was one of the most unbelievable nights of my life.  I have some insane photographs from it, we stayed in a glass igloo and it was seriously magical.  Plus we took a reindeer ride, went dog sledding, snowmobiling, and spiked hot cocoa.
Gahhhhh I would die. I was infatuated with the Northern Lights when I was a kid. I've seen a teensy bit of them but that would be amazing.

I'm glad to hear it was worth it! We tried to do this back in 2010 through the Volvo European Delivery program. We were going to drive around Scandinavia. There was only one Volvo dealership in our area and they totally blew the sale by refusing to secure our delivery date. We literally had everything lined up for the trip (not paid for, thankfully.)

My FI is obsessed, I promised I would go with him to go see them too (went with a friend of mine a few months before he and I met.)  Seriously amazing.

  • I think we're going to stop focusing so much on traveling to other continents for a while and visit some other states. I've done a lot of international traveling but Ive only gone on vacation in three other states. I'd really like to go to Salem, Mass.

Oh it's super fun there!  Enjoy it!  We were just in Nashville, TN in August (that's where we got engaged) and it's a fab place to visit as well!

  • Oh, i'd like to add move the hell out of IL. Preferably to my dream location, Seattle. (what can i say? I love the rain and not too cold, not too hot-ness). That's definitely more than a year out, but a girl can dream!
  • a)  Make more friends and get close with one or more of them.
    b)  Continue therapy and working on myself.  I would like to be "better" with my self esteem, body issues, co-dependency, and anxiety.  Related to that, to do what is truly is best for me.
    c)  Start at least volunteering in my future field of work/where I will be once I graduate.  I think having this extra bit in my life would be good for me mentally and also help me get my foot in the door, so to speak, in the veterinary office world.

I've heard Nashville is nice. Any vacation is going to have to wait a while for us. We went to Peru in August for our honeymoon and we went to Florida two weeks ago.

Did you love Peru?  I LOVED it last year.  My parents just went because I loved it so much!

And Nashville is amazing!  We both love music (and my FI is obsessed with the Bob Dylan album Nashville Skyline, it was part of our proposal actually) and it's just a great place.  Very affordable, great food, lots to do!

We loved it! We did the hiking/camping trip to Machu Picchu and it was so freaking amazing. I would love to go back someday.
  • 1. Manage to get my career aligned with H' so we can actually be in the same place for longer than 6 months.

    2. Fly somewhere with H - at this point, I'm not sure we care where we go. In the 5+ years we've been together, we've gone all over the world...without each other.

    3. Manage to get actively and continually involved in volunteer organization

  • 1. Get married
    2. My contract position will be ending, so I will need to find a new job
    3. We'd like to take another international trip this year, but that might be a 1st anniversary thing

  • Mmm cheese.
Was thinking the same exact thing!

@jdluvr06 I've been to 35 states but DH has only been to about 6. He really wants to stay domestic and see more states. I tell him that we totally will once we have kids because it's so much easier/ cheaper (than bringing them international). So I promised him that we'll take one more big hurr-ah international for me, then start a family and start bringing the fam to all the states.

@ashley8918 I have only been to Seattle for a weekend but I LOVED it. So pretty.

Ooooh this is on my bucket list.  I think I might actually lose my shit if I could witness the Northern Lights.

Can I add another goal?  Hug a sloth.  I think there's a refuge in Oregon, which is a totally doable trip.  I saw my other favorite creature in the wild this year (octopus while diving [although the octopus name is starting to become sullied sigh]), so now I just need to get my namesake in my arms.  (AND NEVER LET GO, but for real, not like Rose from Titanic.)

  • @slothiegal have you held one before? My dad still has a picture on his nightstand of me at 8 years old holding one in the Caribbean. I don't even remember which island it was.

No  :(  I'm like a preteen girl with a boy band--I'm in love based only on what I've seen on TV and have researched on the internet.

Lol, we should definitely meet up and be friends. In fact I've been contemplating trying to get another Chicago Knotties meet-up together.

    Yes! We definitely should!
  • get a new job, get a house/ make babies, ditto on the learning how to make fresh pasta
  • @jenna8984  Fair warning, while they're both technically the same language, Canadian-French and Parisian-French are vastly different.

From someone who grew up with Ontario-French from kindergarten, was taught by a Parisian-French immersion teacher and who was completely confused the first time I went to Quebec.
