Changing the sheets

How often do you change the sheets on your bed?  I just walked through a conversation in my secretary bay where a coworker said his wife changes their sheets every three days.  I know that he is a total germaphobe generally, so is this excessive?  I change our sheets once a week.  What is normal?

I change mine once a week. There's no hanky panky happening in my bed, though, and I am generally pretty clean when I get into bed.
  • Once a week.

In the islands it was every other week.  Water was premium so I did that to conserve water.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

I seriously almost started a thread on this! I try to change mine every two weeks but last night I was getting into bed and felt something weird. I pulled the blanket back and there was dead grass in the bed! My dogs had been running around outside and then ran straight in and leaped onto the bed with nasty feet. Ugh. I realized then that I hadn't changed the sheets in almost a month and I felt like the grossest most horrible person ever. So embarrassing. In fact, I would probably never even admit to this IRL lol

  • Uhhhhhhhhh.... not as often as I should. Let's just leave it that.

Now I feel super gross and am DEFINITELY washing sheets/towels tomorrow.

  • Once a week. Generally, we both shower at night so they stay pretty clean. But there are few things more gaggy to me than a dirty bed. I mean, I spend 1/3 of my life there, so....

  • I will add, that I don't wash them every week because I think they are dirty. . . it's more because I just love the smell and feel of clean sheets.  i'm trying to remember back to my childhood.  I feel like my mom changed/washed the sheets every 2 or 3 weeks. . . . . I have no idea!
  • at least once a week.
  • I also feel like this coworker's wife may not be human.  She works full time ( I think she is a teacher), has a toddler and infant at home, and somehow has a perfectly clean home at all times, a husband with gourmet lunch leftovers every single day and changes the sheets every three days. . . . . NOT HUMAN!!!!
  • We wash ours every few weeks. I shower at night before bed and DH is fine wallowing in his own filth. I fall asleep pretty much the moment my head hits the pillow, so I probably wouldn't even notice if the bed was gross.

  • At least once a week.

If we had a second set of sheets or if our stupid washer didn't take two hours per load it would probably be more often. I would love to have clean sheets every three days though.  I sleep way better when the sheets are freshly washed and made.

  • Yeahhhhh, definitely not once a week... We're gross.

HOWEVER, I will say that most of the reason I don't wash my sheets frequently is because I have to pay for laundry. That changes in a month!
  • I aim for every two weeks sometimes weekly if one of us wasn't feeling well or the cat got onto the actual sheets and not just the comforter.

I'm so glad that I'm not the only person who doesn't exactly know how often I change my sheets. It's definitely at least once a month. I love love love clean sheets and really should do it at least once a week, because H gets hot and sweaty when he sleeps.

  • Probably... not as often as we should. We might be disgusting.

    I'm in this club.

  • Every Saturday. Along with  (but not in the same load as) all the towels, rugs, kitchen towels and oven mitts and tablecloth, throw blankets that have been used, etc etc.

    I am an unrepentant germophobe.

  • I aim for every 2 weeks, but I can only change the sheets on Fridays or Saturdays (basically H claims I can only do it when he doesn't have to work the next day otherwise it's next to impossible for him to get up as he is too comfortable) so if I miss my window I have to wait anotehr week...

  • Once a week since DH (then FI) moved in. It is less of a pain now that we have a second set of linens.

When it was just me I was in the "way less often than I should" camp.
  • About every 2 weeks.

  • Um...whenever I get the idea to change the sheets.
  • We love the set of sheets on our bed so I try and throw them in the wash every week/two weeks

  • Every two weeks!

  • Generally every two weeks. We don't get that gross and we're both pretty lazy about doing laundry. Since we have two sets of sheets now we only have to wash them about once a month.
  • Every two weeks.
  • I used to wash them....infrequently.....but I was crazy about washing my towels at least once a week. H used to wash the sheets at least once a week but his towels would go far longer than that.

So when we moved together and our powers combined, we do both once a week!

  • yeah I would also be in the "not often as I should" group.  I LOVE the feel and smell of clean sheets but I hate doing laundry and I also pay to do my laundry which means I probably stretch things longer than I should. Plus I get so little time off that when I do, the last thing I wanna do is laundry.  Also, I'm lazy, haha.  I was actually just thinking that I need to wash my sheets and my comforter soon (like within the next week or so).

  • I try once a week. We used to have more sheets, so I could just rotate and not have to wash them. Some of those sets have torn, so now we just have one set of flannel and one set of cotton. Sometimes we go 2-3 weeks when we're busy.

I have to wash towels once a week. DH likes to use them to wipe the dog down or leaves his on the ground and steps on it.

  • I rarely sleep on fresh sheets anyway, old ones come off and go into the wash, new ones come out of the linen closet. Clean ones get folded when I get around to it.

You'll be happy to know I changed the sheets when I got home. They hadn't been changed since mid October.
