  • All I Want For Christmas -- OO I like to sing along with that one too. Trying to hit that note in the car by yourself.

  • All I want for Christmas is for retailers and radio stations to stop with the madness and to keep all things Christmas from my eyes and ears until Black Damn Friday, like in the good old days!!!!!!!

  • Instead of getting mad at this song, can we please agree to be mad at this asshole?

My dad has a shitfit every year when the christmas stuff comes out, and then carries on and on while we decorate the tree the first or second weekend of December. "REMEMBER WHEN WE WOULD GET THE TREE ON CHRISTMAS EVE???"

Yes, Daddy, we do. We also remember that you got a Charlie Brown tree every other year when we'd say ok we'll do this Daddy's way, then come home to the tree version of a coat hanger covered in plastic green garland and a pine needle trail from the driveway into the living room.

One year he came out on top and got two REALLY nice trees for like $10 because it was 4:30 on Christmas Eve and he probably looked like a lunatic running around asking about trees. I don't know what he thought we would do with the second tree. We set it out on the porch and half the neighbors came over to see if everything was alright because it was just out there making us look like Christmas was cancelled or some shit.

I gotta finish my Christmas paintings uuuuugh

I have plenty of hate to go around and encompass both the shitty song originally in question AND this asshole.

    Hahaha!

My parents had a legit Charlie Brown Christmas tree a few years ago. . . because they procrastinated in getting one and the only one they could get on X-Mas Eve that year at like 3pm was a Charlie Brown tree.

They also procrastinate horribly in taking the Christmas decorations down. . . it will literally be into February before the tree is cut up and chucked out of the window piece by piece- that's how they do it, lol- and all the swags and what not are taken down.

Last year was the earliest the tree was ever taken down- December 26th- and the only reason that happened was because my cat knocked it over, on top of my Dad while he was watching TV and playing on his Nook.

  • Not gonna lie though, I am seriously considering not putting my tree up this year just because I don't want to take it down again (although I am militant about it being down by New Years Day.)

I think I might just string the tree lights up along the bookcases and stuff and go for dorm-room festive, haha. Or buy one of those hideous fibre-optic trees!

My best friend and I were listing to "We Need a Little Christmas" and there's a line that says "But it's barley one week past Thanksgiving" it's basically saying like slow your roll we shouldn't be getting ready for Christmas this early!

And we couldn't stop laughing that at one point a week after Thanksgiving was maybe a bit too soon for Christmas.

    LOL nooooooo!

Our fake tree that we used the first year FI and I were together was our Charlie Brown tree. The cats LOVED it and used it as a jungle gym so the wires were all bent and we could NOOOOOT get it to look right.

I think we took our tree down the first week of January this year. My mom keeps it up AAAALLLLL January, and then when she's done, she drags it out the front door and just throws it next to their front steps. My dad bitches about it all winter (Mom always goes: THE BIRDS LIKE IT, LEAVE IT!) and then he finally draaaaaaags it out to the woods once the snow is gone.

They are definitely not "coming out of nowhere", though. He has been involved in allegations and lawsuits (which he settled) for at least a decade that I know of.

I am also confused by your comment about being glad that your husband is not a famous man. Is he a rapist? (Obviously, I'm not implying that he is) Otherwise, I don't understand the relevance.

It was a misplaced thought that famous men seem to get called rapists, and I was thinking about how his wife feels (is he married?) But obviously that's as far as the thought goes, because I know nothing about him and the allegations, never knew he's been involved with this for over a decade. Not claiming to call either party innocent or guilty or a liar. Just a spur of the moment though.

Gotcha :) Just trying to get clarification on what you were saying.

I try to never judge a rape accusation as false unless proven otherwise. Far too often, a person's cry of rape is discounted.

I hear you, but keep in mind that "innocent until proven guilty" is a hugely important part of our legal system.  And, unfortunately, there are people who lie.  It's part of why it's hard to prosecute, and I had to watch my attacker go free (well, I guess he did, since nobody ever bothered to let me know what happened.)

I'm so terribly sorry that that happened to you. Nice of them to fucking let you know, huh?

Of course this is all true, but what I was trying to say is that I try to never automattically jump to "Oh, that person is probably lying" in my head.

I totally understand what you're saying!  And, yeah, that's basically how I was treated by the entire justice system from police to judge ("what were you wearing?  were you drunk?  why were you alone at night? you don't need a lawyer, the prosecution is on your side."), so obviously we have to listen to victims and assume they're being honest.  But it's such a serious accusation, that I'm only saying, from a legal perspective, it's important to not drag someone's innocent name through the mud, either.  Does that even make sense, haha?

Yes, absolutely! I totally agree. I just don't like the "they are only accusing him because he is famous. He can't have done it" bit.

Yep!  I totally understand not wanting to believe that someone beloved could do something horrific, and I can even understand reserving judgment until more facts are revealed/a case is resolved.  What I don't understand is the automatic assumption that it can't be true, and the woman is a liar.  I think we're on the same page, I just suck at articulating my thoughts this morning! :)

My mom & I were actually discussing this last night, and I got frustrated with her.  She was saying that these women should have spoken up when the alleged rape acutally happened.  She kept saying "why wait?"  And I had to tell her that they were probably experiencing PTSD or shame / guilt and that making those kinds of allegations aren't exactly easy things to do.

    Sigh.
