  • @lapeanut1018 I LOVE your cake. I kept telling my baker I want it "crudely iced" and I thought that sounded bad. Now I can steal your pictue. Thanks!

I feel like I'm at an advantage in that I can judge what y'all think before I get married to see what will get me side eyed.

I don't think we're too Pinterest trendy though. The reception is in a garden, so we're going really lantern heavy on centerpieces because free flowers already growing.

My mom suggested we put the cake on one of my grandmother's floral hat boxes. I love the idea, then we searched it on Pinterest and it's been done. No shame.

I've mainly relied on Pinterest for photo ideas. I have zero shame in that either.

  • Well, my photog asked me to do the attached with the doors and I didn't object.

Also I got my MIL the below because she had pinned it and clearly was hinting that she wanted some such kind of appreciative cutesy gesture. And then I got one for my dad too since he's the only person I know who still uses real handkerchiefs and has never been on Pinterest to know that I'm unoriginal.

  • @maeday2 Here are the original inspiration photos from Pinterest we used. I told my baker we were looking for a "naturally" iced or "roughly" iced cake.

  • I love burlap and lace, and if I wasn't getting married in Aruba, I would totally have my reception decor be burlap and lace. Tastefully of course!

Whew. It feels good to get that off my chest.

  • Chalkboards, DIY mercury glass, cookie bar, probably more stuff.

Milk glass might have happened, but I actually collect that shit.

I went through my pintrest board and am pretty shocked at the stuff I pinned and didn't even consider doing come the wedding day.

I'm not sure I think it's stupid, but I did find it on pintrest - I think

It's a sand ceremony photo frame. We didn't want to do a unity candle and this is more useful than a plain sand ceremony jar. Don't care, it looks great on our mantel! (this is one I had pinned, not our - ours is of course red & blue)

I attempted to do these as favors, but we couldn't get them to set wight eh humidity...so it would have been my lame pinterest thing...but can candy button ever be a bad thing??

  • Since we're sharing pics...

My boots and paper flower bouquet. I got the idea for paper flowers from offbeat bride but found the tutorials and ideas I used off pinterest.

And my dress is basically a monstrosity of trendiness and IDGAF

  • My hate on Pintrest isn't the weddings with some Pintrest here and there. It's when Pintrest threw up on everything and it's blatantly obvious.

@LaPeanut1018‌ - that burlap and lace is pretty. It's not burlap and lace flowers on burlap garland with burlap backdrop and burlap ribbon as cake icing...... and the bride going "Why is this so itchy?" That was an overly Pintrest wedding.

I however will judge the fuck out of burlap on cake. That shit leaves fibers in the icing, and that's ruining perfectly good cake.
  • So far in the plan is the old window with frosted glass for the menu (in my defense I already have 5 old windows and only one is going up in the house so far...)

  • Let's see...

Our centerpieces were vintage dessert cups and teacups, on top of a stack of vintage books with vintage handkerchiefs.

Drinks were served out of enormous mason jar dispensers with chalkboard signs. I did not choose this, the caterer did.

And I can't find a picture of the card birdcage.

  • We're totally having mason jars with flowers as centerpieces. Because I can DIY them for cheap as fuck because we already own TONS of mason jars. FI may or may not be helping pay for this wedding with moonshine sales...

And I'm having a cookie bar with a sign above it saying "How sweet it is"

I reallllllllllly wanted a sign saying, "You be my glass of wine, I'll be your shot of whiskey" but that's friggin EVERYWHERE.

I will gladly help increase his sales.

  • This thread makes me feel so much better! I've totally been thinking doing a chalkboard sign for our programs because I think it looks cool and I don't want to spend a lot of money on something people end up throwing away. Also, I love mason jars so I will have some as centerpieces as well. Not sorry.

  • I was and I am still not on Pinterest. I didn't join for wedding planning because I knew I'd want to do everything and then I'd look back and be like "Why did I spend my time making all that shit and, god, WHAT DID I DOOOOO?!?" And I still haven't joined because laziness.

However, I did get the idea to do wildflowers from a picture that probably was/is on Pinterest:
