When my daughter broke up with S/O #1, she bought a townhouse.  She was 22.  (He was a good guy, but not THE ONE.)
When my daughter broke up with S/O #2, she adopted a cat.  (He was NOT a good guy.  I was pleased it ended.)

When my daughter married, she was 31, she had $40,000 in real estate equity, and they still have the cat.  He is THE ONE.

I have two PomChi's (Pomeranian-Chihuahua).  But I adore PomSky's.  DH and I have talked about getting one for our next dog.  Although, we also talk about getting more Pom-Chi's too.  We may end up with a whole house full of little Pom mixes.

Haha, I managed to just squeak by without having to pay any out of pocket cash when I sold my house in August - I WISH I had had $40k in equity instead of losing $15k in value overall!

LL - I agree with PP's - you will make an awesome puppy mama!  I always admired how much you loved your ex-FI's kids - it takes a great person to bond that strongly.  You deserve way better.

I'm very glad you're adopting a pet. They really are the best. I just adopted a kitten a couple of weeks ago. Any puppy or kitten would be lucky to have you as its mommy.

I rescued a puppy when things went south with the douche guy I dated in college. The difference between my moose (cuz he grew into a giant) and the dude, was that my moose never let me down. Just unconditional love. And it's adorable to see how moose and FI have adopted each other. They adore each other. The guy may have been a waste of time, but the dog was the best decision I've ever made.

First of all, I'm so, so sorry this has happened. I read this thread on a late night flight from Milwaukee to NYC and am now headed to the airport again. I can't really improve upon PPs but will emphasize that although it probably hurts physically right now, every day will be a little but better, even if it's imperceivable to you. Time does heal a broken heart. (Time, wine, margaritas, a good book, Netflix, cupcakes, time with friends, that is.)

I'm watching the sun rise over a freezing, dark Manhattan right now and although it's beautiful, it's freezing cold with more cold on the way. If you can take time off, have you thought about a little weekend getaway? Miami perhaps? I had this idea last night when I was buzzed on shitty Delta wine & I thought, "I'd better wait to make this offer until I'm sober", but now I'm sober, embarking on another flight where I'll rack up miles I won't need to use and would like to offer you 40k Delta miles or however many gets you a round trip flight to somewhere away from here (if you're up for it). Please think nothing of it except for some airline love from a stranger who knows what it feels like to want to run from a broken heart and feel some sunshine in the middle of winter. Seriously, I have miles to spare and I can't think of a better way to use them right now.

Thank you, @climbingwife & @dcbride86.  We call it Lagniappe in New Orleans, "an unexpected gift".  It's really little more than an internet transaction for me, I hope she'll take me up on it.  I've gotten something from these boards (entertainment, how not to be an A-hole bride, what a PPD is, haha) and this is a very small way to give back.  @lacqueredlover, I'm serious, holler at me if you want to get the hell out of dodge!

Aw you guys are so sweet.  I actually have a trip to new orleans to look forward to with all my girlfriends in march and I think my BFF and I are going to take a weekend to her parents house in GA before the big puppy adoption happens!
