Geez I keep remembering stories that have happened to other people.

One of my coworkers came back from lunch one day and said he saw Paul Rudd on a Citybike. He yelled "Hey Paul Rudd!" and Paul Rudd responded "Hey man-enjoy your lunch!"

I died. I would tear off that man's clothes if I saw him in person. H & I went to a comedy event and Paul Rudd was a surprise guest and H started mock restraining me. I know I got all flustered and the man was on stage like 100 feet away.
Gah I love Paul Rudd so much.

  • I've gone to a bunch of celeb meet-and-greet type events. Alton Brown, Jamie Oliver, Morimoto, Bobby Flay, Giada, Michael Psilakis... those Food Network chefs are always doing something in my area. Phil Rizzuto and his wife used to be clients of mine - cheapest bastards EVER. I hated working with them.

Ugh, met him in NOLA.  Such an ass.

In NOLA we saw a bunch of celebrities too.

When the bulldog was 4 months out they were filming The Campaign in our building.  Being a young puppy he had to go out often.   I saw the entire cast a few times a day.   Funny thing is everyone took pictures of the bulldog.  Will Farrell is walking by and ALL the attention is on my bulldog.  They even took him set without me.

John Goodman lived in the same area.   Mark Wahlburg was filming something down there as stayed at the hotel on our block.     He was nice.  Pet the bulldog too.

John Cusek is a weird one too.  He lived in DH's hotel for months.   DH had to cook some weird stuff for him.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

Worst by far was AJ McLean. I met him in a club and he was a complete sleazeball. Invited me back to his buddy's place for drinks and coke and I said, thanks but no thanks. My first aim sn was AjMcLeanLover1987 so you can imagine my whole pre-teen dreams were crushed in an instant.
That is hilarious to me because I had a uni classmate who partied with him in Vegas over reading week a few years ago and she said exactly the same thing. Also that she was totally gung-ho to sleep with him just because of who he was but he was just SO GROSS she couldn't go through with it in the end. She told the whole class on our first day back and all the girls were secretly mourning their lost childhoods, I think :P
I wasn't going to add it, but why not:

During an exchange we had, he kept looking down at the phone in his hands and saying, I really shouldn't but my friends are all telling me I should show you this: and proceeded to show me a picture of his dick. I that point, he reached lowest of low.

I can't describe what it looked like, as I have completely blocked it from my memory (I literally remember it as a black box.) It was disturbing.

  • Oh! I just remembered that I used to be related to the "Honey Boo Boo" family by marriage. My cousin's husband was first cousins with Sugar Bear. We were all very sympathetic when my cousin's marriage dissolved, but we were also very, very relieved.

  • I've met Jimmy Fallon... Super nice guy. He used to come into the store I worked summers at. He showed me photos of Malia Obama's 4th of July birthday party at the White House and just generally made conversation.

OOH, love this thread! I have a few:

Judge Judy: met her and her husband on vacation, both were super nice and she signed an autograph for my sister

Nick Carter: met him at the airport, also very nice and signed an autograph

Christopher Lloyd: at a Back to the Future event, he looks very old in person but was really nice.

Lea Thompson: met her at the same event. She was actually SO sweet to me that I started to cry and was super embarrassed. BTTF is my favorite movie and it meant so much to me to meet them.

Tom Wilson (The Heat, BTTF): he was rude, very full of himself and an inflated ego. Someone asked him to sign 2 things and he wouldn't because he didn't want the kid to possibly sell it.

Jeff Garlin: I've met him twice and he was super awesome both times!

Various meet and greets at different events: my FI and I have met Sean Astin (so nice), Robert Englund (also great), and a few more I can't even think of.

We met Jamie Lee Curtis last fall and she was terrible. My FI is a huge fan of hers and was very disappointed to see how she acts.

The worst celeb I've met was Janice Dickinson. I saw her at Kitson in LA and she was a TOTAL b. So so rude to everyone.

On a side note, my BFF met Taylor Kinney last night while Chicago Fire was shooting near her house. She got a ton of pictures with him and said he was incredibly sweet and kind! Always love to hear a nice story.

  • Fun stories!
Mine aren't "fun" but here they are:

I have autographs from Jason Wade (Lifehouse), Joakim Noah of the Chicago Bulls, Kara Goucher (world class runner), Sarah Pekkanen and Jen Lancaster (authors), and I had my picture with Jensen Ackles (actor) at a Supernatural convention. My husband has met/gotten autographs from Mike Ditka and other notable Bears at various events. I've been to talks by Stephanie Izzard (Top Chef) and Andrew Zimmern (Bizarre Foods).

It's common to see Vince Vaugh on the streets around here; when I did, I gawked behind his back. When I was in NYC I gawked at Jimmy Fallon but didn't have the guts to approach him either.

A lot of celebrities around Chicago are sports people, who I really don't know. My husband got all jazzed because a Chicago Bear was sitting a few tables away from us at a restaurant, but given so many sports guys wear hats/helmets, I honestly wouldn't recognize most if I passed them. I saw Kristin Cavallari at Nordstrom and ran in the other direction away from her adoring fandom.

I think that's about it? No fun stories, just many encounters.

I run into Guilana Rancic semi frequently. Her SIL lives in my town and I work near her condo/ restaurants

I will never forget when I was leaving Starbucks, carrying my brand new baby in his carseat and a drink while trying to find my cars. Bill, Guilana and Duke left a half second before me and Bill let the door slam in my face. Which is a huge pet peeve of mine.

I've seen the Rancics at their restaurant, at the time they were super nice, posing for pictures and talking to fans..but that was a few years ago and they seem to have bigger egos now.

I "met" Usher back in the late '90s when he & Chili from TLC were together. They were jumping line for a ride at Six Flags in Atlanta & he bumped into me and apologized.

Umm, I know Relient K is not a super popular group, but I talked to Matt Theissen (their lead vocalist) on the phone once and I was fangirling so hard I could barely talk. I met the whole band a few years later, they're wonderful.

My mom met LL Cool J in Miami, and she also met a few cast members from the Broadway show Hairspray back in 2009.

I've also met a LOT of college football players before they went pro [most of them being Alabama players] - Trent Richardson, Dont'a Hightower, AJ McCarron, Tim Tebow. I went to a party once and Cam Newton was there, but I didn't get to talk to him. AND I've met the whole crew from College Game Day multiple times.

Ha I just remembered this story. My BF worked at H&M in Soho. One day this guy in sunglasses comes up to her and asks her to pull a dress off a mannequin because it was the only one in that size left. She told him that it was company policy that they were not allowed to pull the clothes off the mannequins, but she could call over to a nearby store and ask them if they have the size. He pulled down his sunglasses in a "don't you see who I am" way and said "really, you can't take the dress off...for ME."

It was Corey Feldman. BF thoroughly enjoyed saying telling him no. And pretending she had no idea who he was.

The other H&M was like three blocks away BTW and had it in stock, he could have just walked for 5 minutes.
I went to a meet and greet of his but I stood to the side and FI was the one who actually met him. He said you can tell the guy is a total loon!

He was awful. It was at a book signing, and he just kept ordering people around, asking what time it was, rolling his eyes - he only smiled during the photo ops. Alton Brown, on the other hand, was amazing. He was all about snarking with and about everyone who was waiting in line, Jamie Oliver was very sweet, as was Morimoto. He and my mom got along quite well once he warmed up (he was actually quite shy at first).

  • I've never met a celebrity before, but I knew one before they became one so that may count??

I have no idea if you get the TV show Rookie Blue in the States, but it's had like 5 or 6 seasons in Canada.

I went to college with one of the lead actors in it and we were pretty good friends. I probably have pictures of him in a toga somewhere...

I just have to say I totally have a crush on Cam Newton. Not only is he good looking, he seems super nice too.  Seems... who knows how he really is.

What little experience I've had (all second hand, never met him myself) is that he is super nice. Now, again, all second hand, and it's from some time ago, but yeah.

I was eating breakfast at the Barbecue House there in Auburn once and a small bunch of football players were eating as well. The amount of space the four or five of them took up in that teeniny little restaurant was absolutely ridiculous.

One year an English teacher said Ben Tate was dumb as rocks. Half the class was offended at her lack of school spirit, and the other half laughed their asses off.

    This thread is awesome!

The only one I've met is Brian Malarkey (chef).  It was at an event for the Girls and Boys Club, and he was so nice.  But I was awkward, I didn't know what to say so it basically came out "Hi, my name is mrsdee15, and I like food."  He laughed and we chatted for a minute.
    image
The other one I didn't actually meet, exactly.  My two friends and I were at a big club, and this security guy came up and tapped us on the shoulder and did the "come with me" motion.  He led us into the VIP section, where they were serving non-stop champagne.  While we were dancing my friend kept saying "we need to take a picture with the champagne bottle!" which I just though was maybe her drunk thing - taking pictures with bottles.  But then someone over the loudspeaker announced that Marshall Faulk (NFL) was there and I looked over and some guy in the VIP section was waving.  Didn't know who he was, and he was constantly surrounded with people (including security) so we couldn't get over to say thank you for the invite into the VIP section.

When we left my friend said "Dom Perignon all night long!" and I asked her what she meant.  We were drinking Dom Perignon all night long and I had no idea, that's why she wanted a picture with the bottle.  When we told our friend the next day that we drank Dom Perignon in the VIP section with Marshall Faulk, he told us who he is, and was so upset we didn't get an autograph or something.

Also saw Jennifer Coolidge (Stifler's mom) once in LA, and she is gorgeous.

  • I've met quite a few pro football players because of my dad's NFL career - most of them are really great, some not so much. Like Brett Favre? Not the wholesome guy most people make him out to be.

The guys from the band The Cab went to high school here in Vegas so when they come to town for shows they're always around at bars, but they're really far up on the "normal" spectrum so I don't really count them as celebs.

I met Jimmie Johnson and Martin Truex Jr. at the race here a few months back. Not impressed. We met Jeff Gordon too and he was amazing.

I met Flavor Flav at a UNLV basketball game. He's a riot.

  • I know I'll forget someone...

I'm a huge Buffy fan, and even though he played my least favorite character, Riley Finn, I saw Marc Blucas at the Philly airport a few years ago and since he was at the gate next to mine, I had to say hi. I usually just let celebs be, but he's not super famous, so I figured he'd probably appreciate being recognized. He was super nice and talked to me for 5 or 10 minutes. I let slip that I knew he used to play college basketball, so we talked about that. He jokingly accused me of looking that up on my phone. See pic below.

Ack...I gotta go. I'll be back with more later (the best is yet to come!)
  • Lynda, I feel like you could write a best selling novel between your and your DH's celebrity stories!

DH has been exposed to so many I can't even count.  Many sports, media, actors, politicians people.

I saw a bunch while living in the islands and NOLA.  Now not as much.  Except ones who are at the club, which I would not disclose.        Let's just say the ones at the club are awesome.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I met/chilled with Linda Hamilton at my barn once. One of my riding friend's is her niece (friend's mom is her twin sister), and she was visiting the family and wanted to see my friend ride. She was SUPER nice, completely relaxed and just hanging out. Of course I have tons of second-hand stories about the whole crew, including "Uncle James" aka James Cameron, but yeah. Aunt Linda was the sweetest.

FI sometimes gets to meet celebs because he works in the film industry. He met some members of AC/DC, and a few other people who I can't remember. His boss also met/hung out with Taylor Swift and her, like, total BFF Karlie Kloss. They were both supposedly very nice.

I too live in NYC, and I rarely see celebrities, but I really think it's because I wouldn't know one unless I walked into him/her. I am just not looking, lol.
  • Well....

I've met the entire Little River Band. They called me "Princess" (in a nice way) and I blushed and got my picture taken with them. I had that picture in my bathroom hanging up for years. Don't know why I chose the bathroom, but they were really nice.

I met HANSON! *squeeeee!* When I was 16. My mom dropped off me and 2 of my friends at the mall for a radio contest. You had to be one of the first 107 people and you got to meet Hanson. So I was 105. I met Hanson. I wanted a photo with them, but we weren't allowed to touch them or get photos. I do distinctly remember Zac jumping out of his chair at the girl that was two spots ahead of me and proclaiming "Why!? Do you want a picture of my huge zit!?" in a joking way when she asked for a photo. He was right. That zit was huge. But a bummer we couldn't get photos with them. They were extremely nice though. Thanked everybody for coming to their mall concert.

I also met No Authority. Another boy band... but pretty anonymous unless you were into boy bands in the late 90s.

Met the original Gomez Adams at the Sears Tower when I was a kid.

I've met a lot of (former) Chicago Bears players, since I'm a huge fan: Dave Wannestadt, Jim McMahon, Roberto Garza, Charles Tillman, Jerry Angelo (former GM)...

I've also met Sam Adams brewer Bob Cannon (SWOON WITH THAT BEARD!) and beer guru, John Palmer. Also met the owners/brewers of Leinenkugels, New Belgium, Founders, Bells and Cigar City. If you're into beer.

  • Oh Billy Joe Armstrong knocked me down at the Tony Awards.  I towered over him in my high heels haha.  I was a sit filler and I got to sit in Helen Mirren's seat when she used the ladies room and she was very sweet when I told her I thought she was awesome
