wow these were some good stories.  I didn't have any weird requests.  The worst one I had was from mom/grandma wanting to invite family members and then wanting to invite a representative of each family member lost (I was inviting my grandma's siblings but they wanted to include a representative of the ones who were gone) - I put my foot down on that and said we would invite her siblings, their SOs, and any caretaker that would be needed to get them there but weren't extending it to cousins.

My dad just not so subtly hinted he prefers I keep my maiden name because "70% of women keep their names nowadays! They want to keep their identities!" and because apparently it'll be easier to have my information hacked if I change my name? Apparently?

FH works in computer security and basically his job is to keep hackers out. His whole degree was learning about hacking and how to do it and was horrified to learn my dad thinks this. His career is his life so he cringes when people spread around false information on how to keep your information secure.

DH does IT security too. The only difference is that I wanted to keep my name and he didn't care!

  • We haven't gotten any truly odd requests, except my FMIL thinks it's weird that the bridal party won't be paired up for the entire wedding. They're entering the ceremony and reception separately, and they won't be doing a bridal party dance or sitting together. The only thing they'll be paired for is the recession. Apparently this isn't "traditional." We figured out that she wants to set up FSIL and one of the groomsmen, which is why she was pushing for those things. Weird.

FH doesn't care either. For some reason my dad has more of an opinion.

So funny, it's hard to find people in that field.

FI's degree is in Information Systems Security :)  He doesn't quite work in that field now, he more deals with building databases or something like that.  Not really sure exactly what though.

But yeah, he always comes up with the craziest passwords to keep everything secure.  Our home wifi is called "CatalinaWineMixer" and the password is an extremely crazy version of "Boats and Hoes" with all kinds of letter replacements with numbers and symbols.

DH has the same degree! I forgot the name of our home wifi but the guest network is called "FBI Van." We live across the street from an elementary school, right where parents pick up their kids. As lots of parents search for free wifi with their phones, we keep things locked down tight. The guest net still isn't available without a password but it still makes us laugh- particularly since the principal mentioned it in passing that he thought it was real!
