NWR How often do you call your parents?

Re: NWR How often do you call your parents?

  • I call my parents 1 - 3 times a week.

My younger sister is practically my best friend so we rarely go more than a couple hours without a text. My younger brother and I text about once a week like, are you alive? Yes? Anything important? No? K. Talk to you next week. My older sister and I don't get a long so I actively try not to talk to her.
  • We (mom and I) live in the same city, and we more so get together rather than talk. So, every birthday/event we will go out to dinner. But as far as calling, I don't really call just to chat. She will text me if I have mail, I will text back and maybe stop by and chat for a few minutes while I'm picking it up (I rarely get any mail delivered there, but it still happens).

I dont call my dad ever, he will maybe call me less than once a year.

  • Well my Mom is my best friend so I call her like 2-3 times a day.  My Dad isn't a big phone talker but I typically talk to him 5 times a week (or more) since I call their house on a daily basis.

I have always called my Mom a lot even when I still lived at home but was at college all day (I commuted).  Whenever I had a long break I would call her and shoot the shit.  She calls me a lot as well.  If something ridiculous or silly happens she calls me up or vice versa.  Sometimes it is just a "oh I just remembered something silly" or "I was looking at Southern Living and there was this sofa in there that I think you would love" or some other randomness.

My Mom was the same way with her Mom.  They would see each other every day in person but they would still talk daily on the phone.

I like that I'm not the only one who considers their Mom one of their best friends :)  If they lived closer I'd be seeing her at least once a week too!

I'm in the same boat! My mom's one of my best friends along with FH.

Same :). And ditto Maggie's observation about her mom's relationship with her own mom- my mom and grandmother talk every day on the phone too!
  • Son responded to my three e-mails with a two sentence one.  Yay!  He's alive!  He's alive!

My Mother has similar issues with my 29yo brother. She sees him much more now that he moved in with me to drive me between cities for my therapy, but while he was living in Europe/Asia/California it was like pulling teeth to get the kid to respond to a FB message/e-mail, let alone call. She used to post political commentary on his FB posts just to get him to engage (M is pretty damn conservative and B is about as liberal as they come).

My mom has the same issue with my 19yo brother. But he also doesn't have a phone right now. But even when he did, it was hard to get ahold of him since he has a crazy schedule. He's in film school and films at night a lot, then sleeps for a while and repeats.

Don't I wish!  I am trying so hard not to intrude into his personal life, but I can't help but worry when I haven't heard from him in a month.
He's lucky.  When my late MIL worried about DH, who was working 1100 miles away, she telephoned the local pastor and had him check on DH and report back to her!  That move was not appreciated.

Interestingly my mom and her mom aren't close. But it makes sense that women who are close with their moms would also then be close to their daughters.
