[QUOTE]Hike, I was an advanced 3rd grader with a superior grasp of punctuation. I assumed most everyone else caught up around 5th grade? Perhaps I'm giving the general population too much credit. So when do they start ignoring punctuation all together?

I will say that 50% of my kids can do it. The other 50% don't use it correctly. I'm pretty sure it's because of testing. There is pressure for kids to know how to read and do math but not write.

Divine - AHHH! can they really get a FB account when they are 13? What happened to only being for college kids (the good old days)? Those kids need to go back to Myspace!

Yeah, it's technically 13 now. That's how old you have to be for them to start target marketing you, however, a lot of parents let them create accounts when they're younger and lie about their birth year. It's so weird to me. FI and I had a conversation and I really think that there's not a huge need for a social networking account before 16, I just don't see much good coming from it before them. Also, reminding our children that the Internet? Is forever.

Agree with zims, you girls are hilarious. And also, the seeming lack of education in this younger generation kind of terrifies me. Maybe I just look back on my childhood with rose-colored glasses, but I don't remember it being as bad when I was that age.

I agree. I know sometimes I don't type the best on these boards but I'm a huge grammar person. Like in my journalism class we use AP style. When you have a list you don't use a comma before and. That drives me nuts. I know things have changed but I still that comma is needed. Also it drives me nuts to see people your and you're wrong!

[QUOTE]I never thought of that, one of my cousins had a 30,000 dollar wedding that I thought was outragouse! They ended up getting divorced a month later! 10,000 sounds about nice, does the Military help you pay for your wedding? Or is it all out of your pay?

Ok, teasing aside, what do you mean by this? Out of your pay? The military won't be taking money out of your Fiancee's pay for anything like a wedding... And no. No, the military does NOT pay for your wedding, or help you. Wha?! Why? I'd have a serious talking to with that professor.

Actually, this very issue had me getting a D in my 6th grade English class. I kept flunking our papers because she took off five points for every time I used the Oxford Comma. Well, and I also got in trouble because that teacher wanted us to ONLY read 60 pages per week of the book she assigned, so we could predict what would happen in future chapters, and I read ahead. I'd usually finish the book in a week. So I got a D. Stupid teacher.
