Writing a paper tonight blah!! Then I am headed to an engagement party/shower I don't know what they are calling it for a friend of mine.  Then more paper writing on Sunday.  Oh yeah and USC plays UF.  I hope we get to dine on gator meat on Saturday!

We have our E pictures on Sunday. Other than that, I don't think we have anything really planned. Which is nice, I really like just relaxing on the weekends or at least having one day of relaxation.
Tonight - I'm making a last ditch run to TJ Maxx and Kohls to find a pretty shirt for sunday. And a coupon run. But that's about all for me :)

    Anyone have anything exciting planned??

I have to write a paper tonight, it is due tomorrow morning and I will be busy tomorrow. It is just a 1 pager. NBD. But I still have to do it, which is going to stink on a friday night..

My college has its annual Service Day and I am one of the site captains so I will be helping clean up a elementary school  all day tomorrow.

I don't know what else I will do, probably clean my apartment, finally get around to doing the other half of my laundry....you know.. normal weekend stuff.

I've got nothing. FI has watch through Sat. night/Sun. morning, so no fun for us since he sleeps all day. We are going to try to take advantage of one of the restaurants giving free meals to Veterans today though.

We don't have anything planned yet really, but we might go to Busch Gardens since it's free for us, if weather permits though of course. We'll probably see a movie or 2, one starting today and H wants to go eat his freebie stuff too. His ship sent out a mass email yesterday of all the places they can eat at today. I guess we'll decide today what to do for the weekend, maybe we'll go somewhere.

Amh: Have fun on your E shoot!! Don't forget to share!

I'll definitely share! I'm really nervous/excited about it. FI and I have never had professional pictures taken together so I'm really hoping they come out well.

I think we're going to go to Chilli's tonight for FI's free meal. It's right up the road from us so hopefully it won't be too busy! I know I went with him one year to Applebee's and there was a 3 hour wait!

I'm getting ready, I have math this morning, and then I go to work for the afternoon.  My dad left to go to my nephews soccer tourney and I'm pretty bummed about missing it, but my mom was put our of work recently so I didn't want her to be at home alone.  We have a girly weekend of crafting, pedi's and shopping planned!  I have some homework, but I'll probably be a slacker and not do it until Sunday..

AMH- I cant wait to see your E pics!! you're so stinkin cute as it is!!

SamiJ - your too sweet! I don't have a high self confidence at all, so I'm really hoping this will help.

Enjoy your weekend with your mom! That sounds like it would be tons of fun!! And you definitely deserve a weekend full of pedicures and shopping!

I'm stuck at work all day today, tomorrow and Sunday.  I think I might still try to go eat dinner somewhere tonight, depending on what's closest to me and what time they close. Other than that I'll be updating policies, changing checklists, and other boring things that I can't get done on normal weekdays. It's eerily quiet around here with most people having the day off.

Relaxing morning, for once! Did some pilates, now drinking tea and listening for my cell phone--a coworker went in today and is doing a process by himself that he's been training on--I keep waiting for a panicked phone call from him! :) Heading up to the ILs later today.

Baby brother is on his way here!!

He's stationed at Polk in Louisiana 6 hours away & he's the closest family I have.  The rest of our family is back in NJ, so we frequently make the 6 hour trip back & forth.  Or meet in the middle to do lunch or just spend the day together.  Keeps me sane & not as homesick.

I am going dress shopping for the first time tomorrow!
    I am so excited.(:
how did your alls dress shoppin go? Any advise?
  • Options
    edited December 2011
    yay dress shopping!
    Where are you going?
If you're going to DB, my advice is to stand your ground. Many places can have really pushy consultants. Don't buy from DB right that day if you DO find something you like. That way you can think it over, it's not going anywhere, and you can probably get a better deal by waiting for their sales. They will have all the undergarments for you to wear for trying dresses on.

If you're going any other place, wear nude panties, and a strapless bra to trying on gowns. Some places will have undergarments for you, but not all! If you find a gown you are in LOOOOVe with I want you to stand in it for a good ten minutes. Look at it. Look at ever little detail, every little stitch, look at your neck in it, your arms in it, your hips in it, your butt in it, etc.
That way you have looked at every single angle of that gown and you in that gown, and it will help prevent second thoughts after you buy it.

    Thanks!
I am going to DB, and will be the first time even seeing a DB store because there are like zero stores where I live, hah. So that really helps! So, I don't need to wear a strapless bra to DB? They'll have that there? Or should I still wear one in case? I am so nervous! Yet excited. Idk I have a lot of feelings going on right now.

I will definitely take your advise on the staying in it for ten minutes.(maybe even longer) Because I'm the type of person who loveeees something in the stores then gets home and is like "ehh, it's okay I guess. But idk if i'll ever wear it." And I DO NOT want to do that with my dress!!

If it's the only place you are going, you don't need to bother. They have everything from bras to spanx to slips there for you to wear while you try things on.

    YES! EXACTLY!
That's exactly why you need to stay in that gown when you fall in love. What size are you, if you don't mind me asking?
DB dresses are nice, great price, photograph well, but remember that they aren't the only gowns in that 100-1000 price range. You don't HAVE to choose something from there.
I thought I did.. I thought it was the only place I could go to find a gown, felt pressure, got frustrated, and bought a dress right then. I didn't love it, and I ended up buying a different gown (a non DB gown for 600 bucks) so just keep that in mind. Nordstrom has INCREDIBLE gowns, As does Macys, the Limited, etc...
I just felt so overwhelmed the first time I went gown shopping, I don't want anyone to have to feel that way too!
I'm excited FOR you! Take LOTS of pictures!  (I have a bazillion pictures of me in db dresses from my trip 10 months ago haha) It will help you see a dress on you in a different way than YOU see it... and then you can come back and show us your 135235235 pictures :)

My dress came from DB and when I went there they had all of the under garments needed.  I liked the girl that fitted me she did man handle me like some of the other places.  Come to think if it that is why I got my dress there.  I know some have had great experience with DB (me) and some not.  I just wanted to feel comfortable and not pressured and that is what the consulant did for me.  Good luck.

It depends on how long we are in DB really, if we're there like all day then we wont be going other places tomorrow, if not, we're going to as many as possible(:

I don't mind you asking, lol. But it really depends on the dress, in jeans I can go from a size 2 to a size 5 depending on where they came from and most shirts are size smalls. My marine ball dress was a small, but idk how DB does their dresses! lol. So i'm not exactly sure what size i'll be considered there.

My aunt is a professional photographer and she is coming with us to take pics(: That is something I am totally pumped for! I looooveee pictures! So i'm sure I will have 43588734 pics to show(: haha.

Belly- I went to a DB and I had a terrible experience.  I know lots of girls get dresses from there and have wonderful experiences (Crown, Stan..), However, My consultant pretty much told me I was a whale and that I should postpone my wedding until I could loose some weight (I was a size 10 or 12 at the time) and I think that their dresses tend to run kind of small (anyone?) The first dress I tried on I was like, "OMG I'm in a wedding dress.. I'm getting married.. What?!" after that I could really be more like.. okay. I like this, but hate that.  Also, they didn't have any flats for me to try on dresses with and my H is shorter than I am so I knew I'd be wearing flats.  I found a dress that I was like ..ehh..Okay. with, but then the alterations were going to cost more than the dress itself.  I ended up with a smaller boutique and found better dresses.

Like FTL said, stand your ground, but be open to styles you woulnd't necessarily think you'd like.. because they might look fab on you.  And I would probably try to limit my time there so you can go to other places and see what else is out there!

idk how their gowns run.. I'm a size 6 and the dress I bought there was a 6 (and needed to be taken in a little.. so maybe the run a little big? ) You'll find out. Just wonering because you can always find DB dresses cheaper at recyclebride.com and all those sights.. also something to keep in mind :)

YES! I cn't wait to see a million photos. Don't disappoint now that we're excited to see them all!!

    Sami thanks for the advise!
Since you didn't like DB all that much, any suggestions to where else would be a good place to try? Firsts said Nordstrom, though i've never heard of that, i'll look it up! and macy's, i'll be trying there, but anyways anywhere else? Thanks!

Yeah I had a crap time at the DB too..
The chick looked at us SO rudely when I said that my Fi was going to be staying during the appointment. She kept teling me what an awful Idea it was, that she can kick him out for me, she really shouldn't be there, it'sjust not right, etc.
    STFU LADY.
    AAAAAAAAAHHH

oncewed is another one. Nordys is a departments store like macys but a step up from that. AA is similar to DB but a little better quality from what I've heard?
If I had found it earlier I would have bought from this place because they are a nonprofit and it's all for charity:

    http://churchstreetbridal.blogspot.com/
(you can read their mission, but basically stores and designers donate their old stock to this place, and they sell them for super cheap (my gown is actually now there! not the one IIIII have, but my style/brand haha too funny) and it all goes towards the YWCA.. super cool.. I like to look at the site just because now, even though I'm obviously not buying a gown)

I found my gown at a little local store that had their "outlet" opened on Saturdays. It fit like a glove and no alterations were needed. :)

ETA: As far as sizing goes, I'm getting each designer is a little different. So they may be all a little different at DB too since DB carries different designers.
