Last night FI went out with a bunch of Marines for a birthday celebration. He had a blast, and it was nice to have a relaxing evening at home by myself (he invited me, but I've been sick so I just rested, and I think he had more fun without me!)

Today FI is taking advantage of Veterans Day - he and a bunch of classmates who are also in the military are going to Applebees for lunch and we're going to Hooters for dinner - buy 10 wings, get 10 free! Or something like that - 10 free wings with a pitcher? I dunno, he just knows it's free food and we like their wings.

Tomorrow FI has class all day, so I'm going to clean the house and my car, do some laundry, set an appointment to go see my dress next week. In the evening, we have a housewarming/engagement party for some friends.

Sunday we're going to play tennis and go grocery shopping, maybe stop by a farmers market. Going to be starting to pick up non-perishibles for Thanksgiving to minimize my shopping trip that week. So exciting!

[QUOTE]Yeah I had a crap time at the DB too.. The chick looked at us SO rudely when I said that my Fi was going to be staying during the appointment. She kept teling me what an awful Idea it was, that she can kick him out for me, she really shouldn't be there, it'sjust not right, etc. STFU LADY. AAAAAAAAAHHH oncewed is another one. Nordys is a departments store like macys but a step up from that. AA is similar to DB but a little better quality from what I've heard? If I had found it earlier I would have bought from this place because they are a nonprofit and it's all for charity: http://churchstreetbridal.blogspot.com/ (you can read their mission, but basically stores and designers donate their old stock to this place, and they sell them for super cheap (my gown is actually now there! not the one IIIII have, but my style/brand haha too funny) and it all goes towards the YWCA.. super cool.. I like to look at the site just because now, even though I'm obviously not buying a gown) I found my gown at a little local store that had their "outlet" opened on Saturdays. It fit like a glove and no alterations were needed. :) ETA: As far as sizing goes, I'm getting each designer is a little different. So they may be all a little different at DB too since DB carries different designers.

Nooo... AA just likes to charge a lot of money. I didn't think their dresses were any better ( I actually hated the fabric on most of their dresses, felt like plastic), but they were charging twice as much for them. I guess I had a pretty terrible expereince at AA, the woman was pushy and she didn't pull any dresses I liked at all. I pretended I liked a dress just to get out of there.

Bleh... Anyway, I found my dress from a really small bridal shop. The owner took appointments on Sunday and it was just me (my mom and sister) and her for the whole time I was there. SHe never once pressured me and she offered suggestions on how she could tailor it to fit "ME."

I kinda agree... Alfred Angelo and Davids Bridal have some benefits, namely their relatively lower prices and the fact that they carry dresses of all sizes on their racks (rather than anyone over a size 12 being unable to fit in any dress - I went with a friend recently to a boutique and it was really sad and disappointing since all she could do was hold the dresses up in front of her!). Personally, I think their service is horrible - DB is known for having the wrong dress, bad stitching, or stains when the dresses arrive, so it's important to make sure it's all okay before accepting it if you do buy there. I didn't go to AA.

I know a lot of girls who think they can't afford anything beyond DB, but I think most people are surprised by the prices they can find elsewhere. If you find a dress you love, check out Pearls' Place - it's a real brick-and-mortar store in New Orleans (? I think) and they do quotes only on the phone. They're an authorized dealer for a lot of designers, so if you find a dress you like elsewhere, PP can often get it 30% off or more and still trust that it'll be the dress you loved. Also sample sales can be great deals for someone who is around a size 4-10 (any smaller and you might need major alterations, and any larger and often samples don't fit - but you might get lucky). You can get dresses up to 80% off that way - a lot of samples were cheaper than rack prices at DB and AA, and the quality of fabric and sewing was much better.

Sounds like most everyone has an enjoyable weekend ahead of them. I'm jealous!

I HAVE to get my homework done tonight. I've put it off all week long and I need to get it done tonight so I don't have to worry about it this weekend.

Yesterday I wasn't myself and it is kind of running over into today so I think I'll skip going over to FI's house. I actually haven't talked to him since last night and I'm kind of thinking I won't tonight either. I'm just in a funk and I don't know what the deal is.

On a somewhat brighter note, I got about 5 text messages today at work around lunch time telling me that FI was on the news. I'm guessing one of the local high schools had an assembly of some sort for Veteran's Day. I'm hoping they play it on the 6:00 news so I can see it!

ohandalso, I signed up for the DC Half Marathon today! Laughing

In Norfolk for the weekend with FI. We're going out with an old buddy of his who PCS'ed here (along with his wife and baby). I'm taking classes all day but we're planning to go to Williamsburg when I get out tomorrow (3ish).

IDK what else.

My room makes me pay for internet, which is why I haven't been around much this week. I miss my knotties!

Hope you ladies all have a great weekend!

I signed up for the Princess 1/2 at Disney Wed. It's in Feb. When is yours?

March 17th.

I did the princess half last year. I loved it and would definitely do it this year but financially it isn't in the cards. Even though we got amazing deals on the plane tickets and the resort last year I can't justify it :(
I wish I was going though so I could meet you ladies. I know Cal does it too. That would be awesome to have a little GTG.

DC is within driving distance and my MOH lives there and FI has family so I know I have a place to stay. This just makes more sense. I'm just praying I don't injure myself so that I can actually walk down the aisle in June.

I'm really trying to find the money to register for the Princess! Finances are a bit tight at the moment, and I don't know if I can justify it. Plus I don't really have anyone to run with - my new colleague says she'll train with me, so who knows? We'll give it a shot, and worst case I end up running the Miami ING Half, so I wouldn't have to get a hotel or anything.

Just got back from Applebees and I am stuffed! FI wanted to take advantage of the free meal. When we got there the line seemed long, but I think we only waited 20-30 minutes. Lots of military out today! Belly- my experience with wedding dress shopping: small boutiques=awesome, larger stores=not as awesome. The first place I went to was a small boutique and it was only me and my guests with the owner. She was very attentive, not pushy, and focused solely on me. She helped me in and out of each dress and gave me suggestions on how to tailor the dress to my needs. I thought I found "the dress" there, but still wanted to keep looking. We went to a larger local store (like a smaller local version of DB). I never knew where the woman who was supposed to be helping me was. My MOH and BM helped me in and out of my dresses. I ended up buying a dress that my BM found on a sales rack. I kept my appt at DB for the next day so my girls could look for BM dresses. But our assistant there was also often MIA. Even though I didn't buy my dress from the small boutique, I told the owner we would be coming there for all of our tux needs, simply because she was so amazing.

I would definitely go for a smaller boutique store and not a chain store. Or try both and come back and tell us if we're right! haha.. You have to remember that if you look at like wedding dresses on TK and fall in love with one, you'll probably find one similar at DB, but it won't be that dress because DB only carries DB dresses. I really like(d) Maggie dresses and so I went to a boutique store that carried Maggie dresses and that's what I got. With boutiques, there will be multiple designers..

I am crazy late on this-but it's Blue Angels weekend here in P-cola and the world's gone mad. FI's gone to do a stint at the concessions tent (and he got to wear civvies, he was so happy), and it now takes him 50 minutes to get to base instead of 20. We are going to hit up World Market today, the one here is having their pre-holiday sale, complete with samples, and I love free samples.
