Re: What do you think of...

  • I definitely don't agree with domestic violence but...I just feel like that was so long ago. I'm sure he's been to counseling and is a different person by now.

Someone posted one of those "motivational posters" identifying how they thought it was absurd that athletes get paid so much and get so much recognition when they win a championship but SM's are paid a tiny fraction of what athletes get paid and often get ignored for what they've done. I'm not sure how I feel about that because the athletes are only getting paid what their franchises can afford to pay them and we are the source of that money so how can we complain?

  • In all honesty - I did not watch the Grammy's, nor do I ever. I think that domestic violence is wrong - and I hate those that advocate it. I think those girls are just dumb for saying that - they're is so much more than just 'beating'. And I'm sure they're referencing 'beating' in a different form. Regardless - It happened, I believe he did the time the court ordered him to, there's nothing else to do/say about it. He's an entertainer, so yeah I would assume he would be at the Grammy's - I didn't know people were upset about it, but if that's what they want to waste their energy on - oh well.

I can see how that would happen, honestly. It's still wrong and stupid. I've tried to upload pictures before of my dress or ring or something to send to a friend, but realized it would have posted to my wall so I didn't. But for someone a bit less aware, I can see it happening.

He may have learned to control that impulse and have healthier behaviors, but he's still the same person. He did his court mandated time, and I don't have a problem with the Grammy's allowing him back.

I DO want to shake these girls and make them volunteer in a shelter for abused women because of the stupid stuff they've said. I think domestic abuse is really shoved under a rug.

I even got in a big argument with my FI about this the other day, because he was saying a victim of abuse (emotional, physical, etc.) was the one letting themselves get abused by staying in the relationship. I get what he's saying, but I will never, ever blame the victim for being abused. There's just no way I can ever accept that concept.

  • Cal-That is why you're awesome. I think it's really easy if you've never been in that situation (the proverbial "you" not anyone is particular here) to say that the victim could stop it or get out if they only tried hard enough. And that's just not true. In addition to most women who are subject to this kind of abuse having no or few financial means and family ties to help them, even if they have the money and a place to go to be safe, the abuser has so twisted their mind that they feel as though they are nothing without the abuser. A very good friend of mine in college was beaten up by her boyfriend, who was one of my best friends. No one, and I mean no one, in our circle ever saw it coming. Then we found out that he had been pushing her around when he was drunk for a while. He went to jail for 60 days and got into AA, but it's still a part of who he is. She's forgiven him, now, but it's been 6 years.

Controversial: I just read this article on XOJane written by a drug addict about Whitney Houston's death. It's pretty powerful, even though I don't agree with how this woman is living her life.

  • This really pisses me off. It also really pissed me off that he was allowed to preform at the Grammys. I get that it was a while ago but it still happened. I'm not one of those people who thinks we need to censor TV but he beat the shIit out of his girlfriend. That was real life. Not made up tv.

  • I'll also put it out there that my opinion is probably unpopular. I understand paying for your crimes and being done with it but in my opinion that is legally. He's off probation? Fine. No more anger classes? Fine. But the Grammys are an entertainment event and I don't think he should be invited to attend

Agree 100% with the first part.

As for the guy who 'accidentally' posted a nude pic on fb rather than sending it via text to his gf, I can definately see how that could happen. On my Droid, when you take a pic, you select this "upload" button. From there you can select fb, e-mail, text, etc. I could easily select fb rather than text if I wasn't paying attention.

I agree with everything you said here completely.

What makes me so mad is that most people have completely let him off the hook. They buy his music, they pay for his concert tickets. He's still famous. WHY?! He's disgusting. I don't care that he's done his time. His reputation should be ruined and it's not. He got away with beating a woman. That's fantastic.

Oh man do I hate me some Chris Brown.
