Also can I just say I'm jealous of the ladies graduating? I'm so tired of studying for finals! Ugh!

    Posted by melbelle24
That's the way it is with everything. Toyota has American factories. Chevys aren't made in the U.S.  There's a Wisconsin children's clothing company(Oshkosh B'Gosh) named after one of our cities that gets their clothes made not just out of state but out of the country. Kinda makes it a pain registering, because you need to actually look up and research the manufacturer in order to tell. It's worth it though. If we don't actually buy our own products, and we obviously import way more than export how are new jobs going to be created?
We both own American made cars too.  We feel pretty strongly about the whole concept.  I wish a lot more people did.

I like the concept. The only one that I probably wouldn't stick with is the American-made cars. I recently bought a new Nissan Altima, and I don't have a problem with it because 1) I bought it from the dealership where a family member works, so my car purchase helped him out, and 2) considering there's a giant Nissan plant in my state that was a blessing to our unemployment, no one will ever be able to convince me that it does not support the American economy.

I love Nissan Altimas. Great looking car too<div>
</div><div>ETA: My sister's ex was working at a Honda dealer back near where my parents live at the time and he was looking into finding a Civic for me. The payments were too high and I couldn't find one around here so I got my Jetta. I felt bad I couldn't help him out but like a month later he got moved up to financing with the luxury cars (Benz, Audi, etc.) and is making 6 figures now</div>

PSA...kinda. There's a difference between American made, and an American brand. A lot of foreign brands, especially cars, built plants in the U.S.  So a lot of products produced by them are American made. A lot of American companies find it cheaper to pay for labor in other countries, so even though they are based here their products are not made here.

My parents always went out of their way to by "Made in USA" (Or Canada...) stuff that it just sort of rubbed off on me. We have always had American cars...GM cars because my dad once worked for GM so we get a good dicsount. I have never had any problems with them. Toyota cars used to be the best made cars, but they partnered with GM in the 1980s in a joint venture. So both companies would get something out it. There is a movie about it, and we had to watch parts of it for my Capstone class.

And Irish - I agree, I will make myself nuts.

Sorry - I kind of stepped out to run to Target and now I'm heading to bed - it looks like I've missed good convo :(
My dress is ivory with lace - its actually all lace. The top is either strapless or worn with straps, it is like a fit and flare type style.

Here are some pictures that I have from when I decided on the dress.. sorry I didnt post them last night FI dragged me to bed.

That isn't my actual hair piece - i'm still trying to decide on it, she just put one in so I could get an idea with the no veil thing. For some reason, the whole long veil thing really really freaks me out!

SO gorgeoussss! I recall seeing it before I think, but couldn't remember. Personally, I think you could go with a tulle birdcage or just a funky hairpiece. No one said you have to have a veil, especially if you're freaked out by them!! Try a bunch on and see what you like! I got my veil from Etsy and it was gorgeous and not very expensive; you'll find something perfect, I know!

Yeah - I think I'm going to take your advice Irish :) I'm just going to try a ton on when I go and get my dress and see what I like/don't like. I was getting ready to buy one on etsy but figured your probably right, plus why spend the money if I don't know if I even like it or look good in it.

Amh: Love your dress! Personally, I think a birdcage and or a nice hair piece would go very well with it. A long veil won't be showing what great back details your dress has!

Yup, totally agree. The other thing is the seller I used on Etsy was really quick in the turnaround, so you have some time to check them out in person before ordering online--I can find her name if you want to look around. They were all simple but I had a wacky headpiece too so I wanted the veil understated.

    Congrats to you ladies graduating!!!

I personally have a Volkswagon Golf, but won't be getting another.  I would consider a Touareg or Tiguan, but not another sedan since it rides SO low!  I bottom out all the time, and I have to be very careful pulling into a parking spot to not go over the concrete marker because it yanks off the lower splash guard.  I hate that so much!

FI drives a Toyota Corolla and loves it.  I'd consider getting a Toyota Rav4 or a Honda CRV as my next car.

I sort of feel the opposite about "buying in America".  I'm very pro-trade and leveraging comparative advantages, and the American comparative advantage is not even remotely manufacturing anymore.  As long as we artificially support a dying industry, we're preventing our economy from naturally moving towards its comparative advantages.  It's not at all that I want anyone out of a job, not even a little bit.  It's just I feel like artificially supporting industries is not good for the long term economy.  I'll buy the best quality that I can find for the price I'm willing to spend - if that happens to be American made, great.  Then we clearly have a comparative advantage in creating that product.  If it's not American made, then cool, too.
