Be BSC With Me: Baby Names

FI and I have recently been struck hard with baby fever. My family just popped out three in the last 2 years, and two are pregnant again. It doesn't help that they're telling me that so far all of them have been within a year of each other and that I should start planning so our kid isn't left out, haha. Anyway, since it'd be irresponsible of us to have a child right now, we just looked at names. We decided that if it's a boy, his name would be Corvus (nickname Corey). If it's a girl, her name will be Magdalena (nickname Maggie).

Now you.

You're not alone, those are interesting names.  FI has baby fever but we both talk about baby names.  :) so is there going to be a honeymoon baby?

Girl names: Aubry, Audry, Camille, Abigail or Penelope.
    Boys Names: Zane,  Gabriel

BF's name is Michael.  His brother and his wife had a son yesterday and Michael is his middle name.

I secretly did a *shew* forehead swipe because I don't want to pass the name on.

That makes me bad.... I don't care.

I'm really name-picky. I'd say that I'm even really shallow when it comes to names, I'm weird like that.

There aren't very many boys names that I like but I LOVE the name Judah (Jude) and I like the name Luke (Star Wars and all that).

I have tons for girls: Audrey, Emma, Madeleine, Calista, Elodie... just a few.

There might. We're having a really hard time now as it is, but after we're married we'll be settled already, since FI will have gotten his PhD by then, and hopefully a job. And I'm totally ready to be a SAHM, until the kids start school, which is when I'll start my career. So it'd be EXTREMELY difficult for us to not try, haha. The wedding is only a year away now, but we haven't thought about the honeymoon at all yet. But yes, FI wanted a "Roman" name, so he looked up a list of names, and I actually really like the sound of Corvus. Plus I love crows. It's kind of a thing between us too. We'll text pics of crows to each other. As for Magdalena, I just met a woman with that name two years ago and it's been stuck in my head since

I'm trying sooooo hard not to succumb to baby fever. Which is especially hard when you have more pictures of Mutley's baby in your cell phone than people you've actually met. ::headdesk::

A boy would be Phillip Christopher, after our brothers. FI had a younger brother who was killed when he was four (FI was six), so we want our (first) son to have his name. My mom gave my brother her brother's name as a middle name, so I want to continue the tradition.

A girl would be Olivia Nicole. Nicole for my sister, Olivia just because I like it.

We're effectively screwed if we have more boys, as we can't figure out another boy name we like.

Wrkn- FI's dad's name is Michael, and his older brother's name is Michael.... I'm hoping his older bro will have a kid before us, because I want to give my kids Vietnamese middle names, since they're gonna be all whited out with their first and last names.

bren- I really liked Bruce (Batman), but I didn't like that I couldn't come up with a two syllable nickname. Brucie just sounds weird. I like Madeleine too.

FI and I haven't tossed it around a lot, but I like Jenna for a girl.  For a boy, I like Daniel or Hayden.  FI's father's name was Michael Steven, and he passed away when FI was 10.  So, if we have a boy, we might try to incorporate his father's first or middle name into our son's name.

Wrkn, that is a cute name!

Although FI and I want a baby enentually, we're in no position to have one at the moment. We don't want a baby for at least 5 years. However, I'm thinking that once we're married and settled we wont' actually wait that long to start trying.

I, however, love the name Josiah for a boy the best. And it's a tradiiton in my family to have all of the girls names words. (mine is Hope, my sister's is Grace... and so on) So, if we continue that trend, there will probably be a Joy, Faith... etc.  Jeff's family has their whole family with "J" names. Jeff, Julie, Jared, Joshua.... So I'm not sure what we'll do as of yet, but one of those traditions will probalby continue on.

I count syllables all the time. Just to see if things... sound right. Would you do two middle names? I have two middle names and I don't mind it at all. It doens't make it *that* long but they're relatively short.

I think I'm doing a good job at not succombing to baby fever. However I do love the baby naming game. We talk about this a lot, normally on long car rides.

For Girls: Adelaide is the front runner, but there are others I like that BF totally vetoes like Juniper and Scarlett.

For Boys: We have a really hard time. BF is all about using his family names and I'm 'I don't think so, they'll have your last name forever. My family names get precedence in naming"

Hope - BF's family is like that with the J names. So Judah fits in perfectly ;) plus, he likes the Beatles. Soo I feel like it won't be a hard sell.

Oceana - I have a friend who has a little girl named Olivia. She fits that description to a T. Her mom always puts her blonde curls up in little pig tails. She's adorable!

Panda - two middle names isn't that bad, you have time to convince him ;) I know a girl who has two middle names, and wants to keep her surname and take her FI's. so she'll have 5 names, 13 syllables. It's quite the mouthful.

FI has several female relatives with the name Magdalena.  they call the mom (older Magdalena) "Malena" and the daughter "Madga".  apparently it's a really popular name in his family.  he also has an uncle named "Kiko", short for Fransisco i think...  that's totally unrelated, but i love the sound of tio Kiko.  it makes me laugh every time.  youtube Kiko laugh from El Chavo del Ocho, an old TV show.

    we like:
    boys:
    FI Jr.
    Montgomery (Monte for short)
    Miqueas (mee-kay-ahs)

    girls:
    Kennedy
Darcyana or Darciana (Darcy for short)
    my middle name

but we don't plan to have any little babies for a few years, so we haven't been really looking.  it could definitely change!

My pick for a boy is Hayden Michael. (Get out of my head Shoes!!) I like that name for no particular reason. I also like the name Dominic. BFs name is Albanian and translated to English it's Alex. We joke around a bit and use Alex sometimes. He and his father have the same name as does his uncle and cousin. He wanted to stick with that tradition and I personally don't like it. (Nothing against those who do it, it's just not my thing.) So if he really wanted to we agreed that Alexander would be okay because technically it's the same name.

I also love the name Bella for a girl, and not because of Twilight.

I just went to a baby shower Sunday (she still doesn't have a name picked out yet, LOL), my sister's baby shower is on 2/12 and then FI's BM's wife's baby shower is on the 13th.  I think babies are adorable and I love looking at baby stuff, but the practical side of me absolutely does NOT want a baby yet.

Aside from that, I only have a few girls names that I like because I change on boys names too much.  For a girl, I like either Emma Elizabeth (my two favorite Jane Austen characters) or Ella Annick (my grandmother's name and FI's grandmother's name).

Oceana- I love the name Olivia too.  I don't know why, it just sounds cute, but classy.  LOL.  And FI's name is Philip so I love that name too (technically Philip is his middle name though, but it's what he goes by)

BF is a 3rd.  He wants a 4th.  This is something he has known for a long time that I am very strongly opposed to, so he has no room to argue when the time comes.

I personally would like to take his middle name (and by default, his father's middle name) and mix it with MY father's middle name - that way, we still have the tradition of being named after important men in the baby's family, but it would include my family, too, not just a miniature version of his father.

So for a boy, it would be James Henry.  I also like the name Ryan.

For a girl, we like Julia, Avalyn, or Emalyn.  For a middle name, I really want Rose.

Side question - what do you ladies think of telling people the name before the baby is born?

Jemmini's post made me think of this - I'm going to tell people we haven't decided on a name even when we have.  I don't want anyone's opinions on my baby's name.  Once the kid is born and named, no one would be tactless enough to say they don't like the name, but you wouldn't believe the things people will say before.  My friend made the mistake of telling her friends what she wanted to name her baby - one friend went on and on to tell her how horrible the name was, how the kid would never find a job (the name was Jordan, btw... her *ridiculously racist* argument was because of Michael Jordan, everyone would assume the kid was black... yeah, I know, TERRIBLE).  Meanwhile, another friend went and named her baby boy Jordan 2 months before my friend had her baby, so she felt the name had been "stolen."  So yeah, until the kid is breathing on his/her own, I'm not telling anyone the name.

I have PLENTY of time to convince him, haha. I'm going to keep my surname as my middle name, and just boot out my middle name altogether. Or maybe keep it, and make it two middle names. I haven't decided yet. My middle name is my first name in Vietnamese, so the only people who call me by it are my parents, and my aunts and uncles. And even then, my parents only use it when they're mad at me, haha. But 5 names, yikes. I don't think I'd do that.

FI and all of his siblings have the same middle name which is Ukhliet (Danish)
it was FI's mothers grandfather's nickname and family tradition is that all children would have that as a middle name.  So two generations of kids with Ukhliet as their middle name.  Not sure if that tradition is going to follow.

Though FI wants to keep my last name as our children's middle name to preserve their heritage.  So it be some like: Penelope (my last name) (FI's last name)
