Altering my dress...

This may be a stupid question but I'm a little confused...I ordered my dress months ago and I am about a size 4 (street wear) and I was urged to order my dress in a size 8 even though it was a little loose on me and I also planned on loosing a little weight. They said it's so much easier to take in than out and that ordering it in the size larger is definitely the way to go. I agreed with them because I'm not the expert :)Anyways, now that the dress has came in and I have lost some weight, it is HUGE on me! Not to mention that it is a very detailed dress and is going to be a pain to take in now :(Can anyone tell me if $300 - $500 is a normal quote for altering a dress like this? I was shocked! Here's the link:http://www.allurebridals.com/index.php?id=3&product_id=115Thanks in advance!

Re: Altering my dress...

  • Are you doing the alterations at the salon you bought the gown from?  They are known to tell you to order a size larger than you are because that's how they can make more money on alterations.  That seems like a normal quote to have it taken in since it is so detailed, but maybe you can find a place that does it cheaper.  You just have to do some research and ask for recommendations on your local board.
  • Mine are a $500 flat fee, rolled right into the price.
  • If you haven't considered it yet, lacing in the back instead of a zipper might be easier/ cheaper as well. I'm not sure, though. I'm going to be going through the same thing as you next year, as my dress is a size 8 and I'm a size 4 myself. Good luck!
