Which Dress?! $100 vs. $1000

Hi Ladies, I am trying to decide btwn 2 dresses. The price is the biggest factor.Of coure the more expensive one is better quaility but the lesser of the two isn't that bad! and I could spend some extra money making it my own.I was thinking about adding Satin to the train and having a sash in chocolate or ivory with a family heirloom. I think I am leaning towards the $100 but does it look ok?!?Pictures are in "My Photos" Help!!!

Re: Which Dress?! $100 vs. $1000

  • I couldn't see your pics, but i think the idea of personalizing it sounds nice. :)
  • I can't see the photos...
  • Is there any other way to post pics? They wont show up in the Bio....
  • The $100 is first and website picture is the $1000
  • I think they both look nice - would you be happy with the less expensive one, or would the more expensive one always be in the back of your mind?I do think you can find the Casablanca for cheaper than $1000 - I noticed some for sale on weddingbee.com - but you could also check preownedweddingdresses.com and oncewed.com - Also try calling Pearl's Place, RK Bridal, or netbride.com - they typically have much better prices than your local retailer and are reputable actual stores that get rave reviews on here.

  • love the $100 one. The $1000 is gorgeous as well but not 10 times more gorgeous! Go with the first one!
  • The first one looks nice. If you feel equally good in both, I'd buy the $100 one and then save the $900 or spend it on something else.

  • I think the $100 one is very pretty, and yes you could spend a little bit more adding some special touches.  If your budget is tight you might not be able to do that with the more expensive dress.
  • Have you tried taking the pic of the more expensive dress to different bridal shops and have them pull anything that resembles it. You can probably find something in the middle price range with somewhat similar details and quality.
  • Go with the $100 dress. It's beautiful, you won't regret it.
  • The $100.00 dress looks fine, the $900.00 bucks could go towards something else. Only you know how you feel in each of them, I say go with what makes you happy!!!

  • You look great in the $100 dress! I agree with whomever said that the other one was gorgeous but not 10X as gorgeous...great way to put it. Good luck!

  • Thanks for all the advice!!I have looked around for a midlle off the road dress but can't seem to find anything.I am thinkingn either go allll out with the Casablanca 1918 dress or the $100 dress and making it my own.I think if the  seamstress can make the satin train longer then the $100 dress is the way to go!I really like the idea of "making it my own"Thankyou again for all your posts!
  • I couldn't see your pics, but your concept sounds great. We have the same wedding date....congrats!!
  • I think the $100 dress is absolutely beautiful! The Casablanca is stunning also! Check oncewed.com for used or new dresses with/out tags. I think I saw a couple like the ones you've picked and they are beautiful dresses there for great prices! Even past deciding if you'd wish you had the more expensive dress...Think of the other things you could put $900 toward. If you would rather have stunning photos, food that guests never forget, or an extra special addition to your honeymoon then I would go with the cheaper dress. Good luck! Either choice will be lovely! I love lace! :)

  • I think that you look amazing in the $100 dress and I agree that extending the satin on the train would add just the perfect touch!! The $1000 dress is SO GORGEOUS and would be hard for me to turn down because it is so stunning as well. Go with your heart on this one so that you won't have regrets :)
  • I actually almost fell in love with one very similar to the first one. :) Let your heart decide, sweetie!
  • Here is the Casablanca for $800..http://www.bridalpromsave.com/product.asp?id=34517&sub=BESTSELLERS&cate=wedding%20dressesI am usually the bargain shopper, but I really like the 2nd one better. Maybe try to get a price quite from netbride or find a used one.. Good Luck with your search!

  • I've been checking oncewed and a few other preowned dress sites, but the problem is I am 5'9"... I wear a 4/6 bridal gown so it can be difficult to find the length. Especially with lace. I know the dress is a "Big" deal, but it really is only a few hours. AND look at how many brides end of selling there dresses!?!?!?
  • I prefer the first one. It's very pretty, and you could spend some of the money you save to modify it to your style (ie: add some color, jacket, or anything else you might want.)
  • I would shop online for the $1000 one to see if you can find it from another bride at preownedweddingdresses.com or something similar. If you're unable to find it at a comfortable price I would DEFINITELY go for the $100 one! It looks good in the photo and I'm sure there are plenty of places you could use $900 :O)
  • i like them both, very similar! i would save the $900. and spend a little extra to customize it :)

  • I love the simplicity of the first one.  The second is beautiful but has a little too much going on.  Thats just my opinion though.  Maybe you like the flashy-ness of it lol.  Go with what you feel the best in.  Either way, you will still be a beautiful bride.
  • I agree with tinker.  They're both beautiful but the $1000 isn't 10x prettier than the $100 IMO.  Congrats!!!
  • Go for the $100 one! It is beautiful! If you add a satin backing to the train it would be similar to the $1000 dress. Plus, who doesn't like a spare $900. Also, if you ever want to do a 'trash the dress' session then using a $100 dress would be better then using a $1000 dress.
  • They are both gorgeous dresses!! i really do like the first one and it is alot cheaper. i think you should go with that one and make it your own!
  • I like the $100.00 one better. And since its cheaper you can definitly modify it to be more customized! And if you choose to keep it, it will be a very personalized family heirloom! :D
  • Hi, I actually like the $100 dress more than the other one, I like simple dresses better, however and I know people here will kill me for it, but in my case I have been dreaming of my dress all my life, so if I like the $1,000 dress more, I would go for it.
  • get the first one & spend the extra money on a better wedding ring set for you and your hubby. you will only wear the dress one day & the rings everyday for years to come.
