What to wear to my bridal shower?

My bridal shower is next Saturday and I have no idea what to wear.  I don't usually wear dresses because I'm a little on the heavy side and most dresses are not flattering on me.  Do you think I should wear a dress to my bridal shower? If not, what are some other options?  I've actually never been to a bridal shower so I don't even know what the guests should wear, let alone the bride!  It's being held on a Saturday afternoon in a church hall.

  • A nice pair of capris and a dressy top usually work just fine.
  • A skirt and a nice top?

  • Bridal showers are usually casual-dressy. I wore sundresses to all of mine, but nice capris/long shorts and a blouse would be great!
  • Honestly the best thing you can wear is a smile. A happy smiling bride is all that people want to see at a shower and at a wedding. Dress in something that you feel comfortable in.

Also very important to consider: Don't show cleavage. A shower is the only time to cover up the boobs because you are bending over a lot and in front of everyone to pick up gifts and if you have cleavage showing it really pops out during gifts. ha-ha something I never thought about but my MOG said many times how much she liked my dress because it was high necked and how that is her pet peeve at showers.

A wedding is a party, not a performance. If at the end of the day you are married to the one you love, then everything went perfectly.

Awesome piece of advice!  I would never have considered this, but now I certainly will!  Definitely will want to be on the modest and covered side versus having 'the girls' flopping out in front of a bunch of super conservative FMIL's friends.

  • I'm wearing dark jeans with black shoes and a cardigan :) I agree with wearing a smile!!!
  • I would wear a casual sundress or skirt and nice top.  If you really are not into dresses/skirts then nice capris and a nice top would be okay, but be aware that probably most of the guests will be in dresses/skirts.
  • Be clean, neat, & comfortable.  Don't wear a dress if you're not comfortable in one.  Nice capris or pants would be fine.  I never thought about the cleavage issue, but it does make sense!  I've always been more concerned for those in short dresses who are trying to wrangle large packages while seated.
