Attire for Father of the Bride

My parents are wondering what my dad should wear to the wedding. The groomsmen will be wearing taupe or brown suites with purple ties to match bridemaids.My mom will be wearing a navy blue dress. I'm thinking he should wear a blue suit and purple tie to match my mom and coordinate with wedding party? Father of groom will be wearing a black suit, so I don't think my dad will look out of place in a blue suit. Thoughts?

The parents should coordinate with each other and match the formality of the bridal party.   A navy suit to coordinate with your mom's navy dress sounds lovely.  I am assuming that they are a couple.  If they have divorced, they should each coordinate with their current spouse.
