Dresses under $1000

I am looking for some reliable reputable places to find a wedding dress that won't bust my budget?  I'm looking for places in MA specifically.  Any suggestions besides DAVID'S would be great.  I'm really petite so I will need expert alterations as well.  Thanks!

Re: Dresses under $1000

  • Check out pearlsplace.com see what designer they carry. Typically you can save 30-40% from salon price by ordering online. Then you can go find salons around you.

To find salons go to google, search bridal salon in map in your area and you will find a ton! I did that yesterday and found so many new salons around me I didn't know about.
  • Also many designers let you order hollow to hem so that you can same on hemming the gown or save details from being chopped off because of being a shorter person.

Casablanca dresses are usually under the $1000 mark.  I purchased my dress through http://jaysbridal.net/store/home.php.  They are a reputable dealer of all the dresses they sell and they sell most of their dresses at a discount price.

  • My dress was by a company named Joli Bridal and cost me $550 CAD before alterations. Their website lists retailers that sell their line.

I was looking at the same budget as you and these are the stores I visited:

    Camilla's in Arlington, MA
    Precious Memories in Malden, MA
    Marry & Tux, Nashua, NH
    Bride's Choice, Waltham, MA
    Manhattan Bridals, Dedham, MA

They all carry a pretty good selection under $1K.  Just make sure you tell them your budget and don't let them show you stuff over it!  That happened to me and I fell in love wtih a more expensive dress.  It was hard to find one in my budget after that, but I did!

Check out Maggie Sottero's dresses (I bought the Coco).  They have a wide price range, as low as like $500 and a lot under $1K.

PS.  You should join us on the Boston board!  Lots of great advice!
  • My Cousin bought her dress online and saved a LOT of money.  And, the dress was amazing.  She bought her dress here:
    http://www.colettejeanbridal.com/wedding_dresses_-_pg_1.

You can find some great deals online!
  • My dress is an Alfred Angelo.  It was only $750 and it's gorgeous!
  • Hello,

I am not a fan of David's Bridal as well.  I know a lot of ladies who had luck there - but they charge an arm and a leg for alterations!!

I bought my wedding dress at Party Dress Express in Fall River, MA.  They have a great selection.  I paid $340 for mine, Impressions Bridal - including alterations!!!   It was simple and I fell in love with it!  They carry Alfred Angelo and many other styles as well.

The dresses are all 20% off - or free alterations. The ladies there are very accommodating.   It may be worth the drive for you.

    Good Luck.

    Good Luck.
  • I went to aconsignment store. I love designer dresses but only had about $500 to spend. I ended up getting a $5000 silk and english lace dress for $400. I don't think they realized what they had!! And I asked around at my church about a seamstress. Four people all recommended the same woman who is only charging $100 no matter how much the dress needs altered. She considers it a ministry to make sure woman look beautiiiful on special occasions.
  • I went out on a limb and got mine from ebay for $475 from a bridal retail that was selling out.  The dress was a Maggie Sottero, and retailed for at least twice that, but was brand new and required very few alterations.  I know everyone is always hesitant to order stuff like that from ebay, but I was very satisfied with my experience.
  • alfred angelo dresses are affordable
  • You may want to check out some shops on Etsy.com.  Many designers are willing to replicate expensive brands for around $600, made to your own measurements from the beginning. They have lots of good reviews. Specifically, I have looked at Bridalblissdesigns and yourfairytalewedding.  I do not have personal experience with them, but it's something I am considering for myself. Best of luck!
  • Berkachi Bridal in Cambridge.  The woman is amazing and incredibly helpful.  The store itself is small (one owner and a seamstress and that's it).  They don't carry any dresses over $1500 - and all the dresses I tried on were $1,000 and under.  Mine cost $700 with taxes, and a friend got a beautiful dress for about the same.

  • Bridepower.com carries designer dresses for less than $1k.    You usually have to get these dresses altered.

There is also Running of the Brides coming up on Feb 19th and Brides Against Breast Cancer which also has 2nd hand and new designer dresses from 99-$1k.

  • Bridal Choice in Waltham has a lot of great dresses for under $1000. I got my Maggie Sottero Irina dress there for $700. The store is no frills but they have great selection and prices.
  • Vows is the brick and mortar store for Bridepower.com and they are located in Watertown, MA. You can get high-end designer dresses that originally cost $4,000+ for like $1,500 and less.
  • Lorraine Roy - Danvers (I got my dress here!)
Somewhere over the Rainbow - Wenham (Consignment)
Bella Sera (a few under $1000, and the one I was interested she lowered to $800)
    French Bridal - Beverly
    Pure Bliss - Newburyport

and I second checking out Running of the Brides on Feb 19th!

  • Would have to second both Camilla's in Arlington and Berkachi in North Cambridge for the price range and good customer service!
  • I found a beautiful dress at Bridal Heirlooms in South Hadley, MA. It was only $650.
  • Also try oncewed.com. Some of the dresses haven't been worn and some have been altered to petite sizes already for you. And you can get designer dresses for cheaper. I am 4'11" so I feel your pain.

  • My friend bought her Maggie Sottero dress for $750 and it's absolutely beautiful!

That is her dress, and it comes in white. I hear that Maggie Sottero has a lot of beautiful and affordable dresses. You may want to look if any bridal salons in your area carries Maggie Sottero, I'm sure you'll be very pleasantly surprised with the quality for the price!
  • Forget bridal salons... I'm getting mine from Nordstrom! They have some really gorgeous dresses and they're way affordable.
  • Ditto- I've read a lot of posts from women who have found their dresses on craigslist.  And, you'd probably be able to negotiate with someone who's selling their dress that they'll never (probably) wear again.
  • there is place called elegance by carbonneau in worcester-- website mydress4less.com very afforadable...
    Lilypie First Birthday tickers
  • www.bridalblissdesigns.etsy.com

They offer custom made wedding gowns and will make changes to designs based on photographs...very good reviews!
  • I second what some of the PPs have said! Definitely check out Alfred Angelo.. The dresses are inexpensive, but they look WAY more expensive than they are! I had a problem with DB dresses and some of the other designers dresses (mentioned above) looking like a dress under $1K and looking cheap. My sisters and family friends though my AA dress was at least $3k but it only cost me $780 and I love it so much!
