Re: Dresses under $1000

  • On a whim, I went to Chryysies in Canton, MA

Found a great dress priced at $950, then they price Match so i did some reseach and I got them down to $730 and they were able to order me a shorted length.

  • I took a chance and ordered a "knock off" on line...I seriously could NOT have been happier...It only cost me $126.00, and it's almost the REAL thing...It took only two weeks to arrive...I'm getting married on May 16th....Congrats to you all my fellow (soon to be) brides...
  • I went to a local bridal boutique and only spent $875 on an absolutely gorgeous, all lace strapless dress by WTOO.
    Here's a link to it.
  • Bridal Bargains, a book on ways to plan a wedding on the cheap, has been a great source of information--It's literally saved me thousands!!! They have a message board under their publishers that brides from each state can post info on local vendors. Good luck!

  • Mine was $970 from W2 (Watter's more affordable line). Style Catherine. I looooove it!
  • I went to a high end store (1K+)n and bought a dress off the rack.  My dress was supposed to be $1450, but since I bought the store sample it was $365.  With your budget you could shop just aboutanywhere.

    Hello, TK glitch.
  • I was going to say MArry and Tux in Nashua, I have heard great things about them and you don't have to pay tax!
  • I don't know speciafically of anywhere in MA, but I got a Maggie Soterro dress, the Carrie to be exact, and without alteration it came to $699, Maggie Soterro's dresses are really nice too, check it out!

  • This may not be the answer you're looking for, but I DID find my dress at David's Bridal, a petite size 2, and only $99 bucks :)

I know, it's unreal, but it CAN happen.

Give it a try - even if you have to go to a few DB locations! If you can save $900 bucks just from buying a different dress...that's close to a month's rent right there :D
  • Check out MORI LEE dresses...my dress was 398...and it's gorgeous..with beading and details
  • It's probably a little out of the way, but Sposabella Bridal in Hyannis has a great selection. My dress - Private Label by G - is $550 before alterations.
  • Go to local dress shops and ask if they have any discontinued sample dresses on sale! I got a great deal on mine that way... 1200 dollar dress for 350.
  • My dress was $775 before alterations from the Allure line at a PA store. Much higher quality than David's Bridal and Alfred Angelo: better fabric, better construction, better detailing. The big box stores seem like they are the affordable route, but check out the small boutiques and ask them what they carry for under $1000. It would be foolish for most of them to not carry an affordable line. You'll be surprised to see what's out there.
  • I don't know about shops in your area, but when I went to buy my dress the boutique we worked with told me that Maggie Sottero was releasing more reasonable and affordable dresses starting with the Fall 2009 line. I purchased my dress for $700, a Maggie Sottero and I loved it.  I'm sure you can find someone who sells her dresses in your area.

Aria dresses   www.ariadress.com they are mainly bridesmaids, but they make beautiful bridal gowns that are very simple. they can also do things to spruce it up for cheap - a flower or a sash for example. Also they are right on Newbury St!
  • I went to a place called Temptations Bridal in Gardner, MA. They were fabulous and their seamstress is great and she is really inexpensive, I myself not being very tall had to have a lot of lenght taken off and it was less then $100 for my alterations.  My dress was also under $1000 as well.
  • Yes!! Go to Vows Bridal Outlet in Watertown, they have great discount designer dresses and a dress line of their own! I just bought a dress for $1050 that included tax and it was one of their own designs. They have 1 of  kind dresses in the store as they were samples from other stores, etc. These gowns have not been previously worn. You can check out their website at www.bridepower.com also, you have to call ahead to schedule an appt to be seen on the week days or it's a free for all on Saturday. Good luck!!

  • preownedweddingdresses.com  awesome website!
  • Try Alfred Angelo, not quite as bad as Davids. Nicer dresses under 1000k. You can forget Pracilla of Boston, all theirs go for 3k and up, but Maggie Sottero has really really drop dead dresses for about 1200, worth the extra 200 bux.
  • Also, don't forget the running of the brides by Filenes Basement is on 2/19 at the Hynes convention center, you can get a dress for 299, 399 or 699 I'm told!
  • I did not have a lot of money for a dress and found a lady on ebay from china that makes replicas from different wedding designers. I was nervous about it but received my dress and it was absolutly BEAUTIFUL. Fit like a glove. I GOT MY DRESS FOR $158!!!!!

  • I highly recommend MAGGIE SOTTERO. I got my Maggie dress for $500!
  • i was able to get a $3000 dress for $200 from http://www.scarlettscloset.com/store/pc/home.asp
you just have to deide within 24 hours if you want to keep it or not.  they are very honest about the condition of the dresses.
  • Try www.peridress.ca/" target="_blank" >www.peridress.ca. im getting my dress from this site for under $300, and FREE SHIPPING Laughing  This site has all the name brands you could think of.Happy Hunting!!

  • Demetrios is another brand that has a number of affordable dresses that have an expensive look to them.  They've managed to create luxe-looking fabrics without the luxe price tag, such as a poly-blend taffeta instead of silk taffeta.  Unless you're going for a ball gown, this is a good option.  Good luck!
  • I have been to many bridal shops and here are some of my favorites:
    Pronuptia in Worcester
    Terry's Bridal in Norwood
Viva Amore in Watertown (A sweet mother-daughter duo-they sell designer dresses at discounted prices. They will even look for a sample for you if you fell in love with a dress that is too pricey)
Occasions in Wayland is having a Watters Trunk Show the weekend of Feb 19-21- I'm waiting to buy "the one" that weekend!

    Hi there!
I actually found my dress at Giannas on main street in Stoneham.  I found my dress there- fell in love with it, THEN checked the price to see it was only $450!!!  I almost choked b/c the dress is beautiful, and elegant.  Hope you find yours there as well!  Good luck
Oh- and my dress is Christina Wu.
  • I know it's not a conventional way of finding dresses, but I found mine on craigs list. I met the girl and she let me try it on before I bought it. I got a almost $8000 dress for $600, so I got my dream dress and can afford to get alterations. Hope this helps. I've also found tons of stuf for my weding there because in SC many times it's cheaper to buy stuff than to rent so alot of us buy, then have all this extra stuff after the wedding.
