Re: Dresses under $1000

  • I got my dress from a small boutique but they carry designer brands. I tried on a lot from the same designer and they were all under $1k! I got mine for $610 after taxes. Its from Moonlight Bridal. This is my dress. http://www.moonlightbridal.com/newsite/products.php?pid=914
Its absolutely beautiful! And I love how they have the option of sketching more onto the dress if you want and they will add it to the dress for you before they send it out. I chose to leave my dress as is, but its a good option! I checked out the store locator and they have quite a few shops that sell this designer!  Good luck!

  • I found my $1100 wedding dress at the Brides Against Breast Cancer trunk show for $150!  For an extra $50 I got my veil, slip and garmet bag.  I followed the BABC down to Portland a few weeks later and picked up 3 dresses for a total of $159 (I saved $550!)  Check out their website http://www.bridesagainstbreastcancer.org/ to see if you can find your dress for an amazing deal!

Heads up to Northwest Women - BABC will be at the Northwest Women's Show in March!  Great place to get your dress, bridesmaid dresses, or formal wear!
  • I found my dress on preownedweddingdresses.com which was AMAZING! I'm in love with my dress and spent so little. It is an Oleg Cassini designer dress that usually costs $1,000. Since it was lace it costs the previous owner $700 for alterations (which were my EXACT sizes). The previous owner became pregnant so she didn't even get the chance to wear her dress so it was still new. I bought the dress from her, which would altogether costs 1,800 (included a cathedral veil and lace jacket), and I only paid $400. I was scared to buy a dress online but she assured me and sent extra pictures and afterwards I was so happy with it!!
  • I got my dress at the Filene's Basement  Running of the Brides in Boston.  My dress retails for over $1200 and i got it for $265 (including tax)!  The prices go from $249 to $649, so even if you find one of the more expensive ones, it will be under $1,000!   If you do choose this route, be sure to try on dresses somewhere else (like a david's bridal) so that you know the exact style of dress you're looking for and be sure to bring helpers!
  • Mine is a Mori Lee dress (I got it at Bridal Mart) $640 including alterations.

    Good Luck!
  •  I strongly suggest Filene's Basement Running of the Brides at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston.  It is next Friday the 19th from 8 am - 8 pm. I went to the last one they had in August and got my dress for $249.  It is absolutely gorgeous.  It is Casablanca Bridal style number 1823.  I got there around 3:00 pm and there weren't the crowds that you see on TV.  I looked through every rack and could try on whatever I wanted.

    Good Luck!

My Maggie Sottero dress (Hunter) was $750 (without alternations) from a local boutique. I would recommend going to a designers website (ex. maggiesottero.com or casablancabridal.com) and searching for a store near you who carries those dresses. I found that the more beading and 'fuss' the dress has the higher the price, but mine has a beautiful beaded applique that was just enough for me and I was pleasantly surprised at the price!
I would also recommend finding a local seamstress to do our alterations. They usually charge half the price of the store where you're buying your dress.

  • The best thing is to shop around and negotiate.

I told my friends I would only spend $800. They said it wasnt realistic.

I went to a masive dress shop in my area and I bought my Maggie Sottero Dress that had an original price of $1275 plus tax for $800 cash.

If the sample dress is in great condition I suggest you offer cash and take that dress. You avoid having issues with the dress being delivered on time this way as well.

  • Brides to Be in Glastonbury CT has great consignment dresses. I got a beautiful one for 450. The alterations are under 200. I am petite too. The dress was a sample in a NY botique, it was never worn in a wedding. They got it for a steal and passed on the savings. The staff was very friendly too. It shouldn't be to far of a hike for you driving from MA.
  • If you don't mind ordering a dress, here's a great place to check out: http://www.usabridal.com/

I too went to David's and was not happy. I was there for like 20 minutes, and no one even offered to help me so I left, and I won't ever think of going back. I found my dress at the store I mentioned above, Bridal Warehouse. With just the name warehouse, I was a little hesitant but the actual store I visited was very nice! And the main lady that helped with my dress was absoutely amazing. I tried on tons of dresses through Bridal Warehouse and a few other stores only to go back to Bridal Warehouse one last time where I found the dress of my dreams! I was kind of on a budget, but knew I would do anything to get the dress that I wanted. The price on my dress was only $449.99!!! I almost fainted!! The company's label is Private Collection. It came in 3 months early too.
    Hope this information helps!!

[QUOTE]I know you are looking for places in MA, however, Wishing Well Bridal in East Providence, RI has beautiful dresses well under $1K and the service there is amazing.  Good Luck!

I'd second this comment. It is not far from the MA border near Seekonk, MA, and after going to about 8 shops (including Alexandra's in Fall River, which I wasn't a fan of at all personally) I settled and ordered through Wishing Well and saved a bundle! Someone earlier mentioned Sposabella Bridals, in Hyannis, MA, which happens to be the location I found my dress... however, the dress I wanted would have costed about $1500 with them by the time I was finished. At Wishing Well, by the time I'll be done with alterations, I'll be spending likely less than $1000 on the dress, which is a 50% savings for the same exact dress. Tax is already included in their prices and they've been the lowest I've seen! So even if one place has the dress you want, don't settle right away because you might find it significantly cheaper somewhere else.

  • i agree with the oncewed.com!  Beautiful dresses, some never even wore and u can find an amazing deal.  then go back and sell it after the wedding.  I don't care how many women saves their dresses, NO ONE i've ever known has worn their mother's dress!  sell it and buy something you need
  • Find a place that sells Quinceanera dresses.  They are usually in color, but there are lots that are white also.  They tend to run around $400 (at least in my area).  I decided that I like the idea of wearing a colored dress to get married in.  It fits my personality better and I'm saving a lot in my budget!  So much, in fact, that I'm giving my bridesmaids the extra that I saved to help with their dress expenses.  The dresses are fairly similar to bridal dresses in style, they just aren't as pricey.  And you won't feel sad that you're spending so much on a dress that you won't ever wear again.

  • Look for a shop in your area that carries Mori Lee Bridal dresses.  Mine was $900 and looks and fels so much more expensive.  The quality is great, and it's the only designer I found in a lower price range who uses high-end fabrics (mine is a great quality silk).  The construction is also great--I could get away with wearing my strapless gown without a bra if I wanted to!  Alfred Angelo is ok, but the fabric isn't as nice and they don't feel as good when you put them on.
  • I would suggest looking at designers websites and finding an authorized dealer in your area.  My dress is a Mori Lee...it was almost half the price of a Maggie Sottero dress I had been eyeing up and absolutely gorgeous.  If you find a dress you absolutely love and it's over budget you can certainly find one similar for less.  Good Luck!!! :)
  • Alfred Angelo!!! I just got a dress for $700...it's gorgeous! Lots of detail! They have sizes starting at 0.  Good luck!!

I used a coupon, too...the manager said the amount of the coupon depended on how much the dress cost. FYI
  • My dress is from Ella, which is a line off of Essence of Australia. They fall around or under $1000, depending on the store. If you see a dress that you like, look up the price on-line and then when you go into the store, if they are charging more, tell them how you saw it for less and see if they will match the price. Every place I asked, agreed to this. This way you have the security of ordering from a store, but you are still getting the deal that you would from the internet.
I also have the issue with being petite. Some lines will offer petite sizes (sometimes at an additional price) or consider your fabric's abiltity to be hemmed. If you have a dress with an intricate scalloping at the bottom, the hem is much more involved which can cost more.
There are tons of beautiful dresses for under $1000. You will have no problem finding a dress. Good Luck
  • Mine is Mori Lee, and was $550 before alterations.
  • I am in the same boat....Frugal Fannies had beautiful weddgin downs yesterday.  They were samples from Nicole Miller. Some of them were beautiful but none were in my size. May be worth checking out.  Someone also told me Aria but I have not been there yet.  Tanks for the suggestions....I will check out these sites.
  • I would suggest Alfred Angelo!  I had a Pronovias gown picked out, but decided that I wanted to try other dresses before I made the decision to purchase that gown.  I started off at David's Bridal which was not a pleasant experience.  Disappointed that I was not enjoying what should've been a fun and exciting experience we left and went to Alfred Angelo.  I suggest you call and schedule an appointment.  Although, I didn't have an appointment they were able to fit me in.  I was so happy and I found my dress for under 1K.

  • I went to a boutique and found a dress and then went to www.netbride.com and ordered it for almost half the price. what you could also do is look on their website, find a dress you like and go to a boutique to try it on and see you like how it looks on you.

  • Maggie Sottero has SO MANY gorgeous dresses that are reasonably priced. I would check out her website and see what bridal shops in your area sell her lines. They are sold at many small bridal shops that you will get the professional alterations and service.

  • My dress is a Maggie Sottero. It was $695.  She has many beautiful dress at an affordable price. Good Luck with your search!
