Bleaching or lightening lace jacket?

I am wearing an ivory lace jacket over my ivory and white strapless dress. I bought the lace jacket online at a separate place from where I bought my dress and only had a choice between white and ivory. The white was WAY too white and the ivory is a little too dark. I'm wanting to lighten it a little bit and can't find a place around here that does anything like that. I'm scared bleaching it will ruin it and I've never dyed anything before but heard it usually makes it darker instead? Does anyone have any ideas on where I might check/try?

Thanks so much!

Your best bet would be to buy the white jacket and try to tea dye it slightly.  I think that bleach would ruin it and wouldn't take the chance.  My mom says that it depends on the material that the lace  is made of.  Good luck.

What's it made of? Polyester or any other man-made fiber is not going to do well with dye or bleach. If it's a natural fiber (100% cotton, wool, linen, or silk) then it might be possible, but I would also start with white and dye/tea-stain it ivory.

I made myself a lace bolero to wear over my dress in the chapel. To be honest, I doubt anyone will notice that there is a difference in shades between the jacket and dress. Are you wearing the jacket the entire time?

My recommendation would be to try on both, have a friend or family member provide you with their opinion, and maybe take a picture to see if it really is as noticeable as you think it is.

I personally wouldn't risk trying to change the color of something because the risk of going too dark, or too light and having to undo what you did is too great.

    BTW: I wouldn't bleach it.
