Bridesmaids dresses when they live all over

The girls in my wedding party live in different cities. I was told by 3 different stores that all the dresses need to be ordered from the same store because the fabric used to make the dresses could be slightly different from one place to the next. One of my bridesmaids is telling me this is a lie. Is it? How have others ordered the bridesmaids dresses?

  • It's possible that there could be very slight variations in color due to the dresses being cut from different lots of fabric. But I've never seen a wedding party where the color was different enough to be noticeable. A lot of stores will play up this risk because they want you to purchase all of the dresses through them.

My girls all lived in different states. We had no problem with ordering from various stores....if it is a chain store, all fabrics should be the same (any differences should be imperceptible).

    Try DB, Alfred Angelo, etc.

  • We ordered all of our BM dresses through one store based on their recommendation.

But it was a little different, we ordered through the designer's boutique instead of bridal stores b/c we got a discount. Plus several of the girls didn't have a store that carried the brand close to them.
  • My 3 girls ordered their dresses from 3 different David's Bridal locations.  I haven't seen all 3 dresses next to each other yet, but it's not worth worrying about a slight color variation.

  • Another option is doing what I did,  Ihave 3 bridemaids that are 3 vey different body types (one tall and skiny, one average, and shorter and bigger).  So I know that there was nothing I would pick that they all would look good in.  So, I just told them to pick something in chocolate brown (which is one of my wedding colors).  As long as you are not wanting them all to look the same that is another option.

  • I think it also would depend on fabric type, which would determine how the fabric holds dye?

My BM dresses are silk shantung, which seems to very in color easily.
  • I wouldn't worry but just to throw it out there, my BMs lived in differrent parts of the country; after deciding on the designer in our case, Jordan), the girls went to store to try on Jordan styles, find one they liked...

They each got measured by a tailor/seamstress, then we ordered from Pearl's Place in LA. Same "dye lot" (supposedly) & saved a lot of money.

We're doing this as well.  All girls are picking out their own dress and getting measured, then sending in their measurements to a store in Cincinnati.  The store also notified me of a sale, so that all of my girls are getting a 10% discount.

Then they will ship the dress out the girls when it comes in.  I did this for a wedding 5 years ago and it worked great.
  • My girls were in 2 different states and we ordered them from Davids Bridal, no problems with the color differences, etc. Our FG's were in 2 different states as well, and no problems there either.

My girls ordered their dress from different stores in different states, I just told them to pick a long strapless dress from Impression BM in Claret Taffeta - One girl flew in from Europe!  All the dresses looked awesome and there was no difference in color.
