Re: fears

• One of my BILs got his jersey sucked into an escalator when he was 8 or 9.  It just ripped it right off of him.  Luckily it was really baggy and he wasn't hurt.

Flying.  I think of really horrible things happening to the plane, like the wing ripping off or the floor falling out from under us.  Because that's totally normal.  :/

Crickets, spiders, wasps, bees.

Climbing up ladders.

I love my dog but he is the biggest hinderance in all of my disaster plans. For instance, if there is a zombie attack, how do I keep him from barking so the zombies dont know were inside? What do I do with him having to relieve himself? WHAT DO I DO?!?
• I'm afraid of some amusement park/county fair rides because I'm afraid that my hair is going to get caught in a piece of the moving equipment and I'll end up getting scalped. That doesn't usually stop me from going on them though, I'm just EXTRA SUPER DUPER CAREFUL to put my hair in a bun first. And yes it's a fear based somewhat in reality this time. :phttp://www.snopes.com/horrors/techno/scalped.asp

• Tony's.... please be safe! I was confused till I read the open letters post. Seriously, I'm scared for you too now.

I'm afraid of the doctor's office... I'm always worried they are going to tell me something is seriously wrong and I'm dying. And I've been pretty much healthy my whole life so there's really no reason to have this fear. I put off going to the doctors because of this.

I'm afraid I'll never be able to lose the weight that I've gained since FI and I met. My MD put me on some migraine meds and it made me gain alot of weight, in a short amount of time. I hate looking at old photos of me now because I don't look the same anymore. I'm excersizing, and dieting, but I seem to be stuck at 17 pounds lost, I'm not gaining anything, but I'm not losing anything either. :o(
Im afraid of paranormal activity. The movie scared the life out of me, and my H made me watch the trailer for the sequal which managed to scare me for the past 2 weeks. It gets too hot in our bedroom if we close the door so weve been sleeping with it open and it freaks me out. All I can think of is "something" thumping up the stairs and posessing me.
Posted by Nebb
Oh, me too. Not so much ghosts, but aliens. I'm terrified of an alien abduction and The Fourth Kind only made it worse. An old family friend of H's once started spouting off about how he was at Area 51 and things he saw when he worked for the government, and a couple weeks later he was killed. Now I'm even more paranoid that something is coming to get us.

Yeah and I hate it when people are like, "Oh it's a cat/dog, it can fend for itself in the wild!" NO NOT REALLY! My cat is a little prince and I think the largest thing he's ever killed was an ant, and that was accidental. Or what if there's a zombie attack and he turns into a zombie cat? I really have an overactive imagination BUT at the same time I do really fear those 2012 apocalyptic scenarios, a lot.

• I have a fear of cows, spiders and snakes.

I don't really have a fear of blood, but if I see and/or smell it, I pass out. This happened this weekend when I visited my cousin who broke both her feet and her back jumping into shallow water. There was a little splatter of blood on her bed when the nurse lifted the sheet, and I had to sit on the floor and put my head between my knees. I'm such a puss.

I used to have a HORRIBLE fear of dying. From age 7 to about 13. My mom told me it would pass around age 13, so I actually had a countdown sheet for the months until I wouldn't be afraid of dying.

One night I was up and my big sister was in the bed with me, talking me down after an awful dream about dying. She was telling me about the angels in heaven, and how great everything is when you die, and all the sudden there was this GOD-AWFUL moaning/groaning/growling right outside my bedroom window. She was about 16 and I was 8, and we both ran from my room screaming and crying to wake my parents.

Turns out, a drunk dude had coasted off the road and into our house, but without any real speed, so his car bumped into out bushes and he rolled out into the yard, thinking he was dying. I wasn't really afraid of death after we laughed at that all night. :)
• Oh boy, let's see.  Spiders, heights, being buried alive, not being able to have children, never getting out of debt, getting more fat/not be able to lose weight.  :P  I'm sure there's more.

• -small spaces.
-i can't look at incisions (stitched or open or anything) or cuts or any sort of nasty injuries without getting lightheaded. i'm not sure if that counts as a fear?
-horror movies. i don't get it because i loved them when i was a kid, but something changed and now i can't even deal with watching previews without having nightmares for two weeks. that shiit just stays in my head.
-car crashes on my way to/from work. i have about an hour commute, and when some other driver does something asinine, i picture it ending in a fiery crash and me dying. i see my fiance and my family at the funeral and everything. weird.

Death by fire is generally thought of as the worst way to die since it takes a while, relatively speaking, and you're in the worst imaginable pain up until death occurs; drowning I think once you can't hold out any longer and inhale, you lose consciousness pretty quickly but 'at least' it wasn't painful besides the few minutes of mental terror.  The types and amounts of narcotics necessary to keep pain manageable for serious burn victims kind of shows how horrible a way to die that must be.

Another bad way is inhaling fire, or smoke that is hot enough, that burns your lungs; I race cars so this is one of the things that stays in the back of my mind that I have to remember if I were to ever be in a wreck or the car catches on fire; you have to get out with little to no breathing if you're engulfed in fire or hot smoke, because if you burn enough of your lungs, you basically have a few days to live and then the burns scab over and you can no longer absorb oxygen.  Fortunately it's painless since there's no nerves inside the lungs, but pretty horrible knowing you have a few days to live with no hope of a cure/remedy.

Yup, fires and burning to death scares me. That confirms it.
• Ok great. I'll never grill out alone again.

Actually, death by fire IS one of my fears. I always think about that when I see stuntmen on TV.

• I hyperventilate when I see spiders or clowns.  I don't handle them well.

I'm scared my FMIL with her weird outbursts and strange ways of favoritism will damage my children.  It makes me swear to keep her contact with my unborn children to a bare minimum.

I'm somewhat afraid that I've put all this time and money into these graduate degrees and I hope that pays off in the long run.
