Snarky Brides

things that irk me (and you...)

So I was just on facebook and realized that I had some events that I had been invited to that I hadn't responded to so I went to RSVP and realized that I was invited to a concert on the night of our wedding reception. Not a huge deal. Except for one of the members of the band is a guest at our wedding. It says that the start time is 9pm. If that is the case, it pretty much means he (and his wife I imagine) might have to leave before dinner is even over (to get there on time)...this irks me. People who book two events for the same general time period drive me nuts. Make a choice. No, my wedding isn't the most important thing in the world, I get it. If you can't make it, don't come. I get it that old people are going to leave after dinner. But I kinda hope that other guests will stay at least a little while, so I can at least see them after dinner. I know I am probably over reacting but it still kinda bugs me nonetheless.

What irks you (today or in general)...

Things that irk me:

- When people spell things wrong. Not a typo. Not someone who speaks english as a second language and has trouble with it. But people who go out of their way to spell things wrong...all the time.

- People who reduce my job to editing a word document, just because they don't feel like doing it themselves.

- People who breakup with a SO and publicly tear them apart on facebook, only to be "in a relationship" with them again 2 days later.

- The fact that Michael Vick still has a high paying career in the NFL.

That's just to name a few.

Basically the fact that my friends complain about not having money right now, period, irks me. Guess who's paying to host a wedding this weekend? This girl. STFU. That goes double for my friend who's been living in my den for FREE for the last 9 months. I'm sorry, you want to complain to ME about YOUR money problems? The girl who has no rent or utility bills? You must be joking.

Edit: Not that people don't have the right to complain, just don't do it to me. And it's still allowed to irk me if you do it on FB.

• I'm with you on Michael Vick. I hate that he can still play and make millions of dollars.

-People who drive with their brights on when there are several cars around. I have light sensitivity migraines people, show some respect.

-My alarm. It irks me every time it wakes me up at 5:30 a.m.

This times a million.

And also, my friend who has complained about her job endlessly for the last year, and just found out on Monday she's being "forced out" and is now complaining about that. I've said this a million times--it's ok to have bad days, or not enjoy your job, but occasionally you need to stfu and realize how lucky you are for having that job. (Although now she doesn't have that job, and will be complaining about being unemployed.) That really irks me.
• I may have done a happy dance in my mind when Vick got taken out of the game against Washington.
• wow, msmerymac 9 Months for free?? You are a better friend than I am! I hate how some of my friends try and make me feel bad for the things that Pat and I have. Yeah, we have our own home and stuff but they have no clue how much work it is to have that. So you just keep living at home with mom and dad who pay for everything and tell me how hard your life is. Grow up.

• The looks I get when people find out I'm getting married and how old I am. I completely understand why, God knows I wouldn't consider most of the people my age mature enough to get married, but it bothers me nonetheless.

On a similar note, people who mock my voice after hearing me talk because they think I"m just sick. Again, I understand, they don't know, but it still bothers me to no end.

When there is nothing on tv.

The fact that my car only gets local radio (re:one station) and it plays crap music.

That I eat when I'm bored. I'm trying so very hard to keep to a certain amount of food a day, and it's killing me.
• Huh, apparently the OP of the birth control thread on Chit Chat came back. Yet another reason why I wish I didn't share an age group with these people.

• The age and marriage thing. I guess I'm doing it backwards. I'll go get knocked up first to a guy that's going to take off like the rest of you (girls I went to school with, not you girls)

People who blow stop signs and have the nerve to flip me off when I DON'T have a stop sign. I'm not the one who broke three different laws idiot.

My roommate whining and biitching about money. Uhm, you just got paid on friday? It's not my fault you blew your paycheck before you even got it. Blowing the rest of your money on a concert ticket makes me pity you less. It's time to grow up and pay your bills. I'm soooo happy the utilities are in FI and I's name, they wouldn't be getting paid otherwise

My assignment that I don't want to do. Also my prof that gives no instructions on how to do his assignments. I get we're 4th year undergrad students, however, there's being vague and then there's not giving any instructions. Some direction would be nice.

• Whoa Katie, they get paid very well. That is basically double what teachers here make. I can't believe they would be willing to fire that many people. What jerks.
image
• You know what else irks me? I think my damn dog just gave me another black eye.
image
• Yeah, the lowest paid person in my county (teacher wise) makes $57,000 a year. That's straight out of college with no Masters. As staff I make under $20,000 but work more hours.

Most of the kid's parents are currently out of work or do crap jobs so yeah, they have no sympathy for the teachers either.
• That seriously astounds me Katie. What would the hourly pay be? I need to get out my calculator.
image
• I think for the teachers it figured out to $33/hour ish. Something around there.

I might start applying for secretary jobs next year in a closer county. I could easily double my paycheck if I got one of those positions which would definitely be nice. I think my boss is going to throw in the towel at the end of this year too.

Whoa, wth? I'm a teacher, and that irks me beyond belief. We work our butts off here, and make half that. Grr.

Edit--it irks me that the teachers in your county are acting like spoiled children. Not that I'm not making that much money. I just wanted to make sure I didn't sound like a brat, too.
• I appreciate what teachers do of course, but $33/hour with just undergrad seems really, really high to me.

And why would you make more money as a secretary? That seems so misaligned.

I make about $35 US an hour based on 55 hours of work a week. I am a teacher, with 10 year's experience, and a Master's degree.

• Well, I'd make more money than I am now. Tech support range is $18,000-$30,000, secretaries are $30,000-$50,000 and teachers are $55,000-$80,000.
• Do teachers in the US not need an undergrad AND teacher's college? I have three university degrees to make as much as I do (although there are ways to make as much without a Master's but it does take additional schooling beyond the first two degrees).

I also don't see all of that money by any means. We pay LOTS of taxes up here. And I have to pay into my teacher's pension (no choice) and the union. Not complaining about how much I make, just explaining that I certainly don't 'see' $35 an hour.
• Note to self: Become a teacher and move to DC.
image
• Correct me if I'm wrong, but you just need a Bachelor's right?

I can go get my Masters of English or Psych, but I wouldn't be allowed to teach with it.

image
• I don't know anything about teaching in the US: I have a 4 years honours bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Education (1 year) and a Master of Education (3 years part time). That is a shitton of education as far as I am concerned.
• I think you have to have a 4 year degree, and then take some kind of exam? Where is Nates? She knows these things.
image
• You just need a bachelors but a Masters is "encouraged". And I believe that's the amount they take home AFTER benefits and taxes are taken out. Are you crying yet?

The school system also pays for you to get your Masters (via tuition reimbursment) if you pursue it while teaching.

Yeah, as in, you only "need" an undergrad but good luck getting hired with that alone. At least, in my neck of the woods.
• You have to have a teaching certificate. I went back to school and since all my undergrad credits from my first degree transferred in, it was going to take exactly the same amount of time to simply get a certificate as it would to get a second degree in Elementary Education with a cetificate. So I did.

Requirements for middle schools and high schools are a little different and require more specialization, but still require testing/passing and a certificate I believe.

And, I made just under/right at $30K I think when I taught. And my first year, we did not have the option to get paid during the summer months, so no check in July and August, period. I make a decent amount more as an academic secretary in the midwest. My cousin's wife went from NC to DC, primarily because of the huge pay difference (my aunt and uncle are the ones in the DC area).
