Snarky Brides

Morning everyone

Howdy. It's been a crazy past day and morning.

The good news, though, is that I got my 4x10 Flex schedule back so starting next week I'll have Wednesdays off. I kind of like working 2 days, day off, and 2 more days til the weekend. But also, my class is going to be on Wednesdays starting next month so I don't have to worry about rushing or anything.

So, the craziness. Last night about 8pm I was outside and heard a cracking, an oak tree falling. Cue freaking out trying to find out where it was so it didn't fall on me. Well, it fell out front, crashed through the fence, snapped a crapton of wires, and blew up the transformer thingy (fuse box? I'm sleepy, I can't think) when it hit the pole. JEA (utilities) came out and was like, "Um, yeah. We need a bigger crew" so they stood around until some more people showed up, but the tree was across the road and driveway so they had to wait for ANOTHER crew.

When did this crew arrive? Oh, around 3am. With chainsaws. They sawed limbs and whatever else from 3am and were still going when I left just before 6. There were about 8 JEA trucks out front and a buttload of people messing with the wires. Hopefully they can fix everything, and then Comcast will have to come out because that wire got totally fried. It was lying in pieces on the ground. And we lost a lot of food so yay, grovery shopping this afternoon. Right now, I just want AC when I go to bed tonight. It's not fun sleeping in this heat, and not being able to open windows due to mosquitos.

And that's my morning novel.

Im dreading going to work. I hate all the BS after a long weekend, with people pretending to give a shite about how my weekend was. It was AWESOME! I had to drop 1500$ on stuff we couldnt really afford, we are flat broke now and I spent the past 5 days worried about my dog. I dont even want to get into anything with anyone so I will just say fine thank you but I hate that song and dance. Its going to be especially annoying from my coirker who will fucking inundate me with questions. I know youre being nice but screw off.

I have to go now, since im going in early cause I feel bad leaving so early last thursday :/ Bah!
  • I never expand on my weekend at work. I just say "Fine" and leave it at that. Unless it was supremely awesome, I figure people don't really care.
  • That sounds horrible Sesh. Hopefully you can get some undisturbed rest tonight. What made the tree fall? Just one more day of work and then we leave for my family's cottage! We're driving overnight in an attempt to miss the worst of the traffic. We'll see how that works out for us. I can't wait to get up there and do absolutely nothing. I plan on spending most of my time parked in the hammock with a book.

  • Celtic, we've had so much rain lately (due to 2 back-to-back tropical storms) that it's made the ground soft and the trees heavy. So, they are starting to come down. H was working in a yard last week and a huge oak came down about 2 feet from his truck. Branches are constantly falling. You can see trees leaning way more than they used to, both in our yard and his customers'. It's just a matter of time.

I'm in that boat, I think most people only ask cause you're "supposed" to. I personally don't give a crap about most peoples weekends.
  • Morning! I am getting ready to drive to a clerks office an hour away so that I can spend the day there going through the RE books looking for an old mortgage filing. Should be a Terrible day lol. At least my mileage and lunch get reimbursed.
    imageVacation
  • Sesh that's sucky! I couldn't wake up this morning and I am having a summer student shadow me so I figured coffee is a must. Hopefully my stomach doesn't rebel. At least I have special pills for that lol. I wish I had today off. Tomorrow is supposed to be full of severe weather. Maybe I can sneak on a train around 4.... Maybe.
  • Sesh- Boo to no power. :( Did you take pictures of the food you had to throw away? I think you can claim that with the power company or your insurance company.

We finally got power back last night around 8:30. I am so very happy, except for the fact that all our food went bad and we'll have to replace everything. It wasn't a ton of stuff, but I'm still going to claim it. I think the insurance adjuster is coming tonight to inspect the damage. We've also discovered our chimney is now leaning, probably from the high wind. Joy.
  • Morning!

Sesh- do you have renters insurance? They might cover the lost food (depending on your deductible, it might not be worth it though.)

It stormed here for a few hours overnight this morning, thank god.  It's been SO hot and sunny, and even though it's been humid, the grass and bushes/plants were just fried. Plus I think the rain helped cool off the air a little. It was 'only' 68* this morning, and I could actually breath outside! woohoo

It's casual week at work, because there are no classes and no orientation (and let's be honest, no one is actually working.) I think I pushed the limits a little today though, and wore a sleeveless shirt. We'll see if I get called out for it. I dno't even care. It's so effing warm in the office too (they've been fixing one of our exterior doors, so it was propped open all day yesterday. helpful.)
  • Geez, Sesh that's crazy!  I asked my SIL if they experienced any outages and she said no but she saw the crew still out there this morning.  That freaking sucks you guys lost food, maybe the power company will reimburse you?

Good morning.  I'm moving into my new office today.  We've had two people resign after having babies and a new person coming in on Friday, so my boss wants me to move into one of the nicer offices which is totally fine by me.  I've got a shitton of work to do though so hopefully this move goes rather quickly.

Ugh Mara, at least your power is back! I hope everything goes smoothly with insurance.
  • We don't have renters insurance. We need to get it though considering how many trees and limbs are coming down. I think that's next on the agenda.

I don't think it would be worth claiming the food. Frozen pizza, some deli meat, salad stuff, etc. Small things, but enough to be annoying that I have to replace them. Mostly I was worried about Whisky's chemo medicine but when I opened the fridge quick this morning for it, they were still cool.

Mara, that sucks about the chimney. Hopefully it's a quick and not expensive fix.
  • Im glad his meds are ok! Being without power sucks. You never really realize how much you use until you can't. I hope you guys get it back soon.

Haha, yes, we are the cause of the morning's major annoyance. I'm sure everyone was pissed by the chainsaws, and that the trucks are blocking the entire end of the street. But since we are on the end, we are on a different grid. Basically, when everyone else on the street loses power, we have it, and vice-versa. Literally just our house was affected by the tree falling down. Our house sucks.
  • Morning. Sesh I'm sorry about the craziness out there, that really sucks. I hope things get better soon. We're finally to our new place in VA and I love it! I can't post pics from my phone no wifi yet, gotta call today but it's lovely. We sat on the back deck last night drinking wine and watching the fireflies dance around the backyard. We also scoped.out our new base, there were a ron of deer everywhere, and some awesome running trails that lead through battlefields. Now that my H is awake, we're going to go for a quick run before it gets too hot and we have to take care of house business. I haven't run in six weeks so this might suck. We're doing VA Beach tomorrow with some old friends from Kodiak so that'll definitely be fun.

Some policies will. It depends on why it was 'damaged'. It's especially helpful for people who store large freezers with food and they're out several hundred dollars since there is a deductible.

That's good to know. H is going to be raising fish for an aquaculture project soon so we are going to have his nursery plus the fish to consider, in addition to the frozen fish studies in our freezer. We lose power a lot so it might be worthwhile to get renters insurance just in case the pumps go out for too long and whatnot. I'm not sure if it would cover that, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
  • Sesh. You need to get renters' insurance. No ifs ands or buts. Seriously.  Plus it's cheap. I never had it until the building next to mine (same complex) in college completely flooded.  My friends that lived there were SOL on personal belongings- computers, clothes, etc. I never paid more than like $100/year for it (combined with my car insurance.)
  • I know we need it. I'm going to talk to H about it tonight. We never really bothered before because our landlords took care of everything, even replacing food and stuff we lost. But with the weather getting worse, it makes me nervous. I've heard Progressive is pretty affordable, and he has car insurance through them (mine is trhough Liberty Mutual), so I'll start with those two.
  • good morning, SB'ers!

I think it will be a busy day at work but tomorrow I'm picking my sis up at the airport and heading "home" for some 4th festivities with my mom's side of the family. Should be a very nice little break.

Your night sounds like you probably didn't get any sleep, Sesh!

My H woke me up at 4 am or so, to tell me "We have to keep checking the weather, there might be a tornado and we'll have to go to the basement." Dude, i'm not going to get up and keep checking the weather. If there's a tornado, I guess I'll sleep through it.

It typically ranges from 75 to 100 per year depending on what discounts you have. Be sure to mention any type of alarm also and specifically ask questions about food replacement and that sort of thing! It's a really easy process.

  • I've always used Progressive with no issues, Sesh :) We have our home owner's insurance through them now too, and it was WAY more affordable than the few other companies we called. (like half the price for the same coverage.)
  • this is really dumb, but I still don't even have my E-ring/wedding band covered under insurance. And I tend to lose a lot of stuff. It's on the list of stuff we really need to do, like amend our taxes from last year (expecting another $250 refund), and roll over my 3 open 401(k)'s. i really suck sometimes.

You should check- it might just be automatically covered under home owner's insurance (or through the jeweler.)
  • Morning! I have a crazy day today. Drs appt, post office, Plus need to get stuff prepped for the party tomorrow. Today is Gias birthday so i need to go sing her Yankee Doodle.

I kind of think that, but the other day H told me he thinks if I lost in the ocean or something on vacation, that it wouldn't be covered under homeowners

That's good. Maybe we'll try them first. I just looked up LM but their site wouldn't let me use their calculator, said I ahve to call. Buttholes. We do have an alarm so maybe that will get us a discount.

    Happy birthday to Gia!
  • Our renter's through USAA is $260 a year but that also covers all of FH's bikes (I think he is up to 5?) and all his plumbing tools. The great thing about renter's for us is that it will cover his bikes if they're stolen even if it isn't on our property.

</div><div>I think you have to have a specific paragraph in your insurance plan that mentions the ring (at least mine did).  Mine is covered through our homeowners insurance but in order to have it covered for anything they needed a picture, appraisal, and specific paragraph in our policy.
