Snarky Brides

Listen here, you little whippersnappers...

I don't want to hear about how old y'all are.  I graduated in 1985.  1985!  A few months ago I heard one of the anthems of my youth, the song I played (on a turntable, no less) over and over in my room played as MUZAK AT WALGREENS.  I'm old and cranky and you should all get off my lawn!  I'm keeping your frisbee.

  • I graduated in 1983!

Collage/ High School era music was:

    Madonna
    Banarama
    Annie Lenox
    The Police

    Now, that's OLD!
  • 1986 here. Our cable box (once we finally got one) had the remote control hooked to it with a REALLY long cord.

AND - I saw the first video ever played on MTV. Remember that? Video Killed The Radio Star.

Song most likely heard at a college party was Blister in the Sun. (graduated there in 1990).

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • Lenore, how depressing is it that our music is now The Oldies Station?  So weird - I don't feel like an "oldie" - at least not on most days.  And the 80s really were awesome, weren't they?  Hilariousness all around.
  • Missy - that was the song that was muzak!  W.T.F.?
  • Bwahaahahah!!!!!!!

I was sad when the host of their game show (Remote Control), Ken Ober, died. That's where Adam Sandler first showed up. I loved that show - I always kickedass from home.

Of course, that was back when MTV played MUSIC.

  • True about MTV.  Sad but true story:  we didn't have cable, so I used to watch Friday Night Videos and pretend I had MTV.
  • Ladies, I just want y'all to know that I listen to all the same music NOW as you used to because, frankly, it's a hell of a lot better than anything coming out right now. Also, my mom graduated in '73 and I don't consider her old in the slightest. So none of y'all are old to me.

  • Awww my sisters graduated highschool in 85 and 87 so, OhWhy I grew up with a lot of their culture floatin' around. Plus I am with Lauren. I am pretty sure my wedding playlist had all of the groups you mentioned and no damn awful, "I can make your bed rock" shiit.

  • Ken Ober died?

    I loved Remote Control
  • Also, I intend to be a crazy cat lady when I'm like OLD old

  • <-- Class of 1985!

OWN and Missy, I feel the same pain when songs that are from our youth (and are on my iPod) are used as commercial jingles.  "I'll Melt With You" for Burger King?!  "Pictures of You" for HP Printers?!  Arrgh!

  • The 80's were great, lots of fun :)

I do not miss the BIG shoulder pads and BIG belts though. TG I was thin then though. If you think the jeans get skinny now.....
  • Yes, the 80s really were fun.  Great music.  The shoulder pads are hilarious - how about those high-waisted jeans with the flap-over?  Do you know what I mean?  And spiral perms.  My ipod is ridiculously 80s-centric, because let's face it:  80s music is awesome.  I'm going to be that obnoxious aunt at everyone's wedding getting down with that kind of swingy, side-to-side, ska-like 80s dancing when 80s music comes on.

1980 here.  Shoulder pads, parachute pants, big hair.  What were we thinking?  But agreed the music was very good.  Remember when MTV played the same 6 videos over and over?  (Remember when MTV played videos at all?)

  • I want in on this!  I graduated in 1994.  This was my Jr. High days.  Let me add that the HUGE teased hair was also very stunning! lol  I also remember watching the very first video on MTV.  Now MTV just sucks.  I love 80's music and my kids like it too.  I smile hugely when my 10 year old is in the back seat of the car singing along with my music! lol
1st pic of us together. Apparently I thought something was funny.

  • Kiss to you, KD.  I'm just jealous that your wedding day is fast approaching and mine seems like it's at the end of one of those creepy-movie hallways that keep getting longer and longer as you run down it.
  • Believe me it will be here before you know it. We are trying to get those last minute things done before we leave town next Sunday.

July is just around the corner! BTW, whens your birthday?

  • 1881 here.  Oooo woooo woooe Jamie's cryin'.  Followed by lots of air guiar.  Ironically I've now learned to play Van Halen for real.  In my 40's.  I get constant side-eye from my kids.
  • You're 147 years old, Jackie?  You look great!
  • OWN, I saw that and giggled.

Justin Baby booboo is a whippersnapper. Trying to pick up Beyonce, Chelsea Field, etc.

When John and I travel, we have such differing tastes in music, the one thing we'll put in is Pink Floyd. I can sleep to that, and he can listen to it all day long.

  • My aged brain can't keep up with this newfangled math stuff.  :  ) 1981 I mean.  Maybe there's more to why my kids give me the side-eye.
  • Well, you still look great.

P.S.  I knew what you meant but I couldn't resist a little teasing.
  • I enjoyed the giggle.  Tease away!   Ps you look radiant in that photo OWN.  :  )
  • Aw, I'm a whippersnapper.

But hey, at least my taste of music doesn't betray that! If you looked at my CD case, you'd think I grew up in the 50s.

Sarah - do you want to go hang with my parents?  They had quite the collection of 50s music for their 8 track in their car when I was a teen in the 70s. :)

I graduated in '79.  I like the Dropkick Murphys, Journey and Barbra Streisand.
    Yeah - I know, I'm weird.
