Republicans cannot be this stupid.

My friend who posted the diamond article also posted these two polls in the past week; the first one shows that nearly half of the Republican party believes Barack Obama is not a US citizen.

http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/04/poll-nearly-half-of-republican-voters-think-obama-wasnt-born-in-us.php?ref=fpb

The other shows that about half of Mississippi Republicans think interracial marriage should be illegal.

http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/04/nearly-of-mississippi-republicans-think-interracial-marriage-should-be-illegal.php

I refuse to believe that Republicans are this delusional.  I prefer to believe that these assholes who actually think this way are just nutbars who happen to ascribe to ideologies of the Republican party.

Thoughts?

And in the spirit of being the fair and balanced journalist I am, I welcome any discussion on any ridiculous things that Democrats believe!

Well apparently only idiots and assholes are answering those polls because I really don't believe most Republicans/Democrats/Independents/whoever are that stupid. Or people are purposely skewing the results of the polls by not answering what they really believe.

I would be curious as to what pool of Republicans they asked.

I think that's a side effect of the two party system; white racists are probably a lot more likely to join the republican party simply because they don't like most things the democratic party does, they probably like to have a say in primaries which independents don't have, so that leaves, one choice.

I'm an independent because I hate the two party system but find that I much more frequently agree with republican candidate's stated views, except I am also pro-choice and not religious, so in those matters most republicans are polar opposite, hence the two party system sucks lol.

I also find it funny that the poll questions they use for shock value when asking Republicans are always these stupid things like birth certificate, is he a Muslim, etc.

Who are these people doing the polls and why are they asking stupid questions that no-one cares about and that have no impact on what is already in place?

What does whether he was born here have to do with anything?

Vegas- I have the same views on pro-choice and religion that you do.  However I choose the Republican party because I agree with about 7 out of 10 things that they do.

We are never going to agree 100% with one party or one candidate.  But Ill take agreeing with them 70% of the time over the 5% of the time I do with Democratic beliefs.

    Of course there are!

The pool of Republicans is of course, a very good point.  The guy who posted these polls is about as liberal as they come, so I kinda have to take anything that he posts with a grain of salt.

For example - the day after the tsunamis in Japan he posted an article about how Republicans were gunning to cut funding for the National Weather Service and other services that monitor seismic activity to help predict when disasters occur, to help provide emergency notification.  However of course - I mean duh, this country is trillions of dollars in debt.  Everyone's on the chopping block right now, so using an unfortunate situation to highlight one aspect of how the government wants to save money and skewing it to make it sound like Republicans don't care if people are notified of tsunamis is just balls of lame.

Can't you not be president if you weren't born in the US (that was really poor grammar)?

But it doesn't really matter now, considering most of his current term is over. And there are about a zillion more issues that are far more pressing and need to be dealt with. I don't understand why people are getting so hung up on this. MOVE ON PEOPLE.

Blue, our governor just vetoed a bill that would require presidential candidates to present their birth certificates in order to appear on the state ballot. Another state (Iowa? Ohio? Something in the midwest with a lot of vowels...) is considering a similar measure.  It's all part of the asinine "birther" conspiracy.

I hate living in a red state.  Our attorney general is a known white supremacist and our senate actually passed a bill that would allow Arizona to ignore any federal laws or mandates that it deems unacceptable.  (Yeah, like that doesn't fly in the face of the Constitution!)

I don't think all Republicans are whackjobs (I actually like a couple of you, but I'll deny it if any of my Dem friends are around! ;)), but the ones running Arizona sure as hell are -- although I have to admit, I respect Brewer's decision to veto the so-called birther bill.  She doesn't think the state has any business pre-qualifying candidates for federal office, and I agree.

    I"m a republican.
I feel that there's more to the Obama "birth certificate" than he says.
(If I remember right, didn't he say that Hawaii wasn't keeping records then?) I'm sorry, but I just don't buy that.
I think the reason that the "birthers" are coming in such large force now is because it would make him ineligible for re-election.

My thoughts on his birth certificate is that he doesnt have to prove shiit to us.  He showed the proper documents to the people he was supposed to.  Why all of a sudden does this information need to be plasted on the front page of the NYTimes?  No other president had to do that.
