Re: Morning

• Sorry about your brother Nebb.

I grew up with a older brother and sister who were always in trouble, drugs/alcohol, and prison. Its not easy, but glad you're there for him.
That's what I'm planning to do mehg, send him letters, his birthday is in august too so I want to send him a little gift. He was getting tough love at xmas and didn't get any gifts then but I think he deserves something now. He is gonna be in there for 4 months.
Posted by Nebb
*hugs* I'm sorry.  Like everyone else has said- it's going to be hard, but hopefully it's what he needs and will help him figure crap out.  It's obvious you care a lot about him, and I'm sure he knows that. :)
• The 3 month old was released, the family took it in as a precaution.  My guess is that they figured the baby would sleep through the movie.  The movie, to my understanding, is rated PG-13, not rated R.  I'm listening to KOA online on Iheartradio and they're interviewing people.  The one that got me was the mom, who choked up saying, "I'm just glad my son came home and that he's not in the hospital or the morgue."

Aurora has had problems with gang violence and at least as far as I know, does have a reputation for shootings etc.

I drove in today because I am going out with my friend G tonight.  Her sister J is in the hospital.  I've been friends with them since 1988.  J is basically drinking herself to death.  She's landed in the hospital 2 other times because of her drinking.  This time, it's not looking good.  It’s caused some kidney problems etc.  She’s basically jaundiced.  Her potassium level is at 1 when it should be at 3.5 for the lowest and 5 at the highest.  A low potassium level can lead to things like kidney failure and delusions.  This explains why she came out of her room the other day and thought that she was part of the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond and thought her Dad was the character Robert and asked why Ray and his wife Deb left without saying goodbye.  So, her mom took her to the hospital yesterday and they basically slapped her into a bed and tried to give her a potassium pill. She couldn’t swallow a whole pill.  The nurse cut it in half.  She couldn’t swallow that, so they ground it up and put it in some applesauce.  She was able to eat that. Her family is really suffering here.  Her mom tried to call the county to see what sort of resources were available and was told, “well, we offer grief counseling when that comes around.”  Her mom  told the lady, “We’ve been grieving for 3 years now, I think we have that under control.”  What a suck ass situation!

I pasted what I put in an email to my mom, I didn't want to type it all out again.  Between these two events, I'm just an emotional freakshow.

Thanks ladies. I was gonna get him a tshirt at osheaga, something weird looking cause he will like that. Its a rehab place specifically for teens so I think it will be the right environment for him. My dad is really pleased with the place.

That's exactly what I was hoping for ;)<div>I don't give two shiiiits about the plot, or the love story horseshit, I just want to see the men shake it. I honestly don't care if they speak at all in the movie, except for that line in the previews where MM says something about having a lot of law breakers in the room, but that shiiiit is just HOT. </div>

Fifty injured, Les.  Many of those aren't shot, but are being treated because of the tear gas.

The plot was kind of stupid and the main actress was pretty terrible, but DAYUM. Channing Tatum can dance.
• BK, I'm sorry about your friend. It must be pretty hard to watch a friend do that to herself. :(
In Response to Re: Morning : I don't think so.  It's a wealthy suburb of Denver.  I don't recall there being a military base in Aurora.  The Air Force Academy is in Colorado Springs which is hour/hour and a half away or something.  Les?

The AFA is in Colorado Springs; we're about 60 miles from Aurora.  Lowry Air Force Base used to be in Aurora, but closed several years ago (in the mid-90s, I think).

• Good morning!

H just left for Vegas for a bachelor party so I'm enjoying 1 of the few weekends I don't have to travel this summer. Pool and books.

I'm sorry but all these "OMG who would bring a kid to a midnight showing?" comments are ridiculous. Who effing cares? 50 people just got shot.

Also if it was a Harry Potter movie or something no one would have batted an eye. And yes those have the same rating.  So please STFU. Like those parents really need all the "what crappy parent" comments all over the internet. I think they're feeling pretty shitttty enough as it is.

Kate-  He plays in a minor league team.  It's equivalent to an arena team (so one step above college and one step below NFL/CFL).

I have to agree with this, totally.
• I can't see taking a 6 or 9 year old to a midnight showing, but I get the 3 month-old.  I went to see Jurassic Park when my daughter was two days old.  She slept through the entire movie (I was, of course, prepared to leave immediately if it didn't go well).

• Acaponi, you said just what I was thinking when I saw people saying that.  Also, I'm sure there are people out there that bring their kids to late showings all of the time.  Obviously we just haven't heard about it until this horrific story.
• Pardon me for being a heartless asshole, but kids under 10 really don't belong at a midnight showing of a movie like Batman. I said the same thing about the last two HP movies because there were 5 and 6 year olds at the midnight premiere.
• Now they're finding that the suspect's apartment has "sophisticated" booby traps.  They've evacuated 5 apartment buildings, including the one he lived in.

I agree. As I said in my post what's done is done and there is really nothing that can be done. No one is being heartless, I as a parent wonder what any child under 10 as Mara started is doing at a midnight showing of a movie they clearly should not be at, it's PG 13 for a reason.

I was at a horror movie, a really bad one, that was rated R and the kids in front of us ranged from 6-10, they should not have been there. And half way through they were traumatized by the movie, one was crying. And no parent in sight.

No one is downplaying what happened.

For me, the issue isn't whether people agree or disagree with having kids at a theatre at a certain time or for certain movies.  I just don't see the need to harp on the idea of it when 50 people were shot.  So what if you think kids should or shouldn't be at the theatre?  People were injured by a crazed lunatic.  That is the issue.  Not the kids being present.  Regardless of if they were there or not this ish still would've happened.

ETA:  50 people were either shot or injured
• Exactly KD. I'm in no way saying what happened to those children is the fault of the parents. It's the fault of one person - the shooter. But I do judge, in general, parents that bring kids to inappropriate movies, regardless of showing time. I say this every.fucking.time I go to the theater.
