Gun Poll

Wow, I had no idea we had so many gun toters in the crowd. Now y'all got me curious.

1. How do you feel about guns in general?
2. Do you own any weapons? What do you take out with you? What do you keep at home and how do you keep it?
3. Ever had to use it  or would you? Or is it there for other reasons?

    1. How do you feel about guns in general? - I'm scared to death of guns, but at the same time I wouldn't hesitate to use one if my life was in danger. I'm actually a pretty good shot.

    2. Do you own any weapons? What do you take out with you? What do you keep at home and how do you keep it? - We have a BB gun  :)  Tim wants a gun, but so far I've been able to talk him out of it.

    3. Ever had to use it  or would you? Or is it there for other reasons? N/A

    1. How do you feel about guns in general? eh, they make me nervous. I'm not a big fan.
    2. Do you own any weapons? What do you take out with you? I have a pocket knife in my person. haha.
What do you keep at home and how do you keep it?
We don't have any weapons. FI really wants to get a gun, but the safe comes first.
    3. Ever had to use it  or would you? Or is it there for other reasons? I might try going to a  shooting range one day. I suppose for self defense, but I don't really know, since I've never been in that situation.

    1. How do you feel about guns in general? I'm fine with people owning them, provided they have a license, know how to use it, keep it safely stored so children can't get it, and arne't psycho bank robbers or murderers or something.
    2. Do you own any weapons? What do you take out with you? What do you keep at home and how do you keep it? H has a rifle he used for hunting. It's in the closet in whatever thing he keeps it in. Right now it's buried behind a bunch of crap we don't have room for. I do have some knives and always carry something with me, even if it's just pepper spray.

    3. Ever had to use it  or would you? Or is it there for other reasons?
I've come close to using the pepper spray when a guy followed me to my truck, but luckily a security guard saw and yelled out, scared the guy away. I nearly used a gun once but it malfunctioned. It wasn't mine though, I took it from him. Other than that, no.

    1. How do you feel about guns in general?
    Supportive.

    2. Do you own any weapons? What do you take out with you? What do you keep at home and how do you keep it?
I do not, since like I mentioned in the other thread I don't think, as a Canadian, I can have anything other than hunting rifles, and I don't hunt.

    3. Ever had to use it  or would you? Or is it there for other reasons?
I would if I had to. If I thought for a second that someone was going to kill me or Brandon, I would do it in a heartbeat.

    1. How do you feel about guns in general?
I think they're something to be treated with deep respect, but not necessarily feared. My dad taught me about guns when I was pretty small. That I was never to touch them unless I intended to shoot them, how to load and unload them, then actually shooting. He was a hunter and guns were commonplace in my childhood, but they were never something I took lightly.
    2. Do you own any weapons? Yes. FI's granddad gave a pretty sizeable rifle collection to FI last year. What do you take out with you? No. I see no reason why we'd ever need to take them out of the house if we weren't going to the shooting range or hunting. What do you keep at home and how do you keep it? There's an unloaded rifle in the closet. Then there's an unloaded handgun in FI'd bedside table drawer. The clip is right next to it. He's pretty insistent upon keeping one there because he's gone for work most of the time and feels better knowing I have easy access to a gun, should I need to use it if someone broke in or something.
    3. Ever had to use it  or would you? Or is it there for other reasons?
Never had to, but if I thought my life was in danger, I absolutely would use it.

    1. How do you feel about guns in general?  I think they should be treated with respect.  I think in general, most gun owners are responsible--they keep them locked up, they teach their children about gun safety, etc.  Responsible gun owners rarely make the news.

    2. Do you own any weapons? What do you take out with you? What do you keep at home and how do you keep it?
I have a Ruger .22 pistol.  Wes has about a half dozen guns, mostly for deer hunting.  My favorite is the rifle.  All of Wes's guns are locked in a safe at his old house, my gun is locked in my dad's gun safe.  I should probably look into that . . .

    3. Ever had to use it  or would you? Or is it there for other reasons?
We just shoot targets for fun.  We should have a shooting GTG!  Ok, that sounds scary.

    1. How do you feel about guns in general? I'm fine with them. I also feel that people on the left should work harder to be fine with them, because the whole gun issue drives a big unnecessary wedge between people on the right and people on the left, and it's just one more way for Fox to stereotype liberals/leftists. I don't like stereotypes.
    2. Do you own any weapons? What do you take out with you? What do you keep at home and how do you keep it? We have a .22 pistol, a 9mm pistol, and a 30-06 rifle. They are all in FI's name, and they stay locked up. I don't carry weapons around with me, although I should probably start carrying pepper spray again.
    3. Ever had to use it  or would you? Or is it there for other reasons? Well, we have them because FI has always wanted one, and I finally gave in. The reason I gave in is that after that guy shot up the Holocaust Museum, I started thinking that maybe we should be prepared in case the social order ever breaks down after oil runs out, because guys like that guy sure are. Plus, I need to know how to kill zombies and all.

    1) I think as long as people are properly educated about guns they are fine and sometimes necessary. (For example - my cousin carries a gun at all times because of his job. He has three little girls and I have never even thought to worry about safety because I know that he is extremely educated and safe about his weapons) I do NOT like how easy it is to get a gun in this country and I do not like that people can get them without being properly educated about their use. Too many accidents happen because of that.

    2) I don't own any weapons - unless you count kitchen knives. My Mom gave me pepper spray once to put in my purse but I never did. I probably should at some point because really my ninja skills aren't good enough to protect me.

    3) I've used guns before but only on a range with my cousin there to teach me. I know how to use them now and feel good about that because if I were ever in a situation where I needed to use a gun I would know how.

I have no use for a gun. I have survived 27 years without one,a nd im sure I can manage another 27 without. I think they are unnecessary and rather pointless if they are locked away separately because if someone is breaking into your house they arent going to hold on while you unlock both locations to load your gun and shoot them.

    1. How do you feel about guns in general?I'm very intimidated by them and don't like them even though I'm from a family of hunters. I've gone my whole life without firing one, so I think I should keep going, but part of me feels like it's a valuable survival skill... I'm on the fence of learning them myself. No problem whatsoever if someone owns an army.
    2. Do you own any weapons? What do you take out with you? What do you keep at home and how do you keep it?I own a taser and a knife I take with me every where. I keep a baseball bat near my bed, not that it would be effective, but it makes me feel good.
    3. Ever had to use it  or would you? Or is it there for other reasons?Yes, I would use it in a heart beat, I've been in really terrible situations and would never allow myself to be there again. Don't really want to go into details, but I used pepper spray on someone and it didn't work, hence my paranoia with the taser.

    1. How do you feel about guns in general? I'm fine with anything that's used for hunting, or handguns. I do not like semi-automatics though.
    2. Do you own any weapons? What do you take out with you? What do you keep at home and how do you keep it? Yes, we have a gun, well really it's H's but we share it. We also have an assortment of non-bulleted personal defense weapons, but I think a few are illegal (I really don't know), so those are a secret. The gun is a 12 gauge. It only leaves the house for hunting-related purposes (practice, sighting in or actual hunting). It has a trigger lock and is stored in a locked case. The bullets are kept in a separate room in a locked cabinet.
    3. Ever had to use it  or would you? Or is it there for other reasons? I've only used it for practice shooting. I don't think it would really be a feasible weapon against an intruder.

It's a pretty empowering thing. I'm not one of those people who is super paranoid, or thinks that there's anybody out there to get me, but it is nice to know that if something did go wrong and someone got in the house, I know how to use the gun.

H has lots of guns.  I do not own a gun myself, but I got an A in Trap and Skeet I and II in college. I only like to shoot clays, not animals or people. I actually haven't shot a gun outside of the safety/comfort of a class setting.

    1. How do you feel about guns in general? I grew up in a house with a full, locked gun cabinet so I'm supportive of people owning them who have a license for them and know how to properly use them.

    2. Do you own any weapons? What do you take out with you? What do you keep at home and how do you keep it? Currently no, but I have in the past (it's at my parents house)

    3. Ever had to use it or would you? Or is it there for other reasons?  never had  to use it but I started learning from a young age how to which obviously involved firing it.

in general, I like guns. I live in Texas. I come from a family of hunters (I don't hunt though). my dad gave me a shotgun for Christmas when I was 9.
and I think if you live in a rural area, you absolutely need a gun. by the time 911 gets to you, you could already be dead.
I think there needs to be a way to make sure law-abiding citizens can have guns while at the same time keeping semi-automatic weapons out of the hands of gang memebers. I don't know what that way is, but that's why I'm not in office :)

1- I'm cool with guns. Like LC, I was raised in a family of hunters, and we always had guns in the house. We knew they weren't loaded, and that we were not to touch them without an adult present or EVER show or mention them to our friends. Dad taught us how to shoot, both the rifle and the handgun that was in the cabinet over the stove. We lived in the middle of nowhere and my mom is blind without her glasses, so the handgun had snakeshot in it. My dad worked 7on/7off offshore, so he wanted to make sure we could kill a snake if we had to. Other than poisonous or egg-eater snakes, the rule was "you kill it, you eat it". We took that seriously because my dad is a little nuts and I don't doubt he would have made me eat a caterpillar.

2- I got a Red Rider BB Gun for my 12th birthday and its in our house, but I haven't owned any BBs in years. My dad carries a handgun everywhere he goes, so I've gotten used to that. I also know how to shoot it if I need to. It makes FI nervous, so I don't always tell him where it is (holster, under the seat, etc). I don't carry anything with me, but I am the wrong bitch to mess with. My dad insists I need a handgun, but I don't want one because I don't want that responsibility. For a  few weeks after I was terrorized by teenagers on a run in my neighborhood, I carried pepper spray. Not anymore.

3- I'd use whatever I had in a heartbeat. No question, no hesitation.

Aside: My cousin turned 21 on Halloween and her parent bought her a gun. Here's what the family email read: For her birthday we got her a Bursa Thunder .380 with Crimson laser sights. For you conservatives, it's a handgun. For you liberals, it's a pool cue.... (then goes on about other stuff).. LOCK AND LOAD YOUR POOL CUES AND KEEP YOUR CHALK DRY!

    1. How do you feel about guns in general?
-I don't have a problem with them. I was raised around them. My dad, J and I all hunt.
    2. Do you own any weapons? What do you take out with you? What do you keep at home and how do you keep it?
-I have a rifle and a shotgun. J has...a lot. We only take them out when we are going hunting and it depends on what we are hunting. We keep them in one of our spare bedroom closets. The room where the closet is located is J's dedicated hunting room, so no one ever goes in there.
    3. Ever had to use it  or would you? Or is it there for other reasons?
-We only have guns for hunting, but J is gone to the camp every weekend, so he wants to get a handgun for me to keep in our bedroom while I'm alone. I honestly have no idea if I would ever use one if necessary. If I thought someone was in my house, I would definitely bring it with me, but I can't say if I would shoot or not. Guess it depends...

    1. How do you feel about guns in general? I enjoy owning and firing guns.2. Do you own any weapons? What do you take out with you? What do you keep at home and how do you keep it? We own 4 hand guns and one shot gun.  I currently do not take anything out with me, we are planning to enroll in a CC class soon though.  We keep all but one gun locked up while we are not home, when we are there, they are available.  One gun is left strategically out in the house in case we ever need to get to it.  FI and I both sleep with a gun next our sides of the bed.  Once we have children we will have to modify how/where our guns are kept.3. Ever had to use it  or would you? Or is it there for other reasons? I would use it in a heart beat.  All of our friends know not to surprise us by sneaking in the house, and as soon as I heard a noise/disturbance I would announce my intent to fire my gun.  If I don't hear them leave, I would be fully prepared to shoot immediately. FI and I are both comfortable with guns, and will protect ourselves if need be.

I just bought my own for my birthday!  We live in Illinois where there is no CC allowed.  (Hell, you can't even OWN a gun in Chicago!)   It is locked and loaded near my bedside and it makes me feel safer, esp when DH is OOT.
It's time. Adoption saving and process started in November 2012.

<div>Its true, though. We didn't even have 911 service growing up. Our 911 was to call my uncle across the road to see if he could see what was going on, or drive us to the hospital, etc. If someone was breaking in, he had the perfect sniper vantage point from his bedroom. </div>
