Yea, If you let it go past the date to appear without paying it/making arrangements then they put a warrant out for you. Then you either pay it to get out, or you just sit it out. But alot of times they'll expidite the process for things like tickets because they don't have room to keep you if you have a large tab...they have to make room for the real criminals.

The Alcatraz swim is an annual event in which a crap-ton of people swim from Alctraz to San Francsico, usually landing somewhere in Crissy Field. From what I've read, the toughest part is the current, which can yank you miles from where you intend to land. People swim it all the time on their own, but I want to do it during the event because there are people with boats on hand in case somebody gets a cramp or can't do it.

I've been thinking about this for a while, and I'm now strongly considering it. I need to do a serious amount of training and really think it through, but it's sort of wormed its way into my head. DH is thinking about it, but he's really scared of sharks!

Poli, that sounds so cool!  What's the distance (minus the current)?  I swim here in Vancouver all the time.  My parents live on the water, so I'm always jumping off their dock.  It freaks out my mom.

Poli, I'm doing well, thanks.  As well as can be expected.  In the last month I've learned to cross country ski and crew on a large sailboat.  I'm keeping busy.

I can't wait to see the photos! We had a mega PM convo a little while ago, but I realized I never friended her on FB I'll grab her when she gets back.

Jackie, it's really not that far, only about 1.25 miles. It sounds like it's the cold and the current that gets most people. I'd be so proud of myself, though! I couldn't fathom doing the Escape from Alcatraz triathalon. Then again, I can't fathom most triathatlons at all, but I respect others for doing them!

Seriously :( It's posts like that that really make me wanna be a counselor. It breaks my heart that some of these girls grow up with such unhealthy thought processes/beliefs about themselves.

I think it's even sadder when those things are pushed by parents. Espically when those parents are in the medical field.
Why would you ever do that to your child when you know how unhealthy it is?
