And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • B- haha. Don't worry! I like hearing about other 'office bitch' stories; it makes me feel better about my current position. I'm also an office bitch currently.

Stacey- Thanks! I love my colors too :) It's funny, it was on the one easiest decision of the whole process. I said I wanted purple and brown, FI suggested orange to go along, and there you go! The plans are going well. I'm really fighting myself to not send out the invites. I think they'll go out next week (two months out!)

All we really have left to do is pay people (dependent on RSVPs) and make escort cards. I need to get my dress altered, too, but I don't think we have much else left!

I'd love to get a doctorate and do research in my own lab...I have no idea what kind of research, but I figured I can just start out with a general biology major and go from there. I'd say that's rather ambitious of me, but I can't imagine doing anything else.
K.D- I just looked at your bio yesterday, what a great and intimate wedding. What was your reasoning behind it?
    Posted by DodgersBride
TY Dodger- This is my third marriage, his second. We knew we wanted something small with just our kids (mine was unable to go) with us. His daughter was MOH, and her DH was BM. And we love Charleston, it was our first vacation together.

So we rented a beachouse for the week, and had a wonderful relaxed time together. We were also able to focus on the photographer, we had the limo drive us around historic Charleston for 3 hours, stopping to get pictures at our favorite spots. Then ending at our favorite restaurant for a great dinner. It was a wonderful week. Thanks for asking.

But he reads a lot of biographies, and technical books. I think he should read some fiction, and get an idea of where he wants to take his story. He knows it will have something to do with the military (his background), and some sort of espionage. He just needs to make time to write. TY for the answer.
    Posted by kd.joseph
Yeah reading fiction might help. I know I pull from other authors in my own style. Like, while I don't care for the content much, I love the way Nora Roberts writes and want to apply that same fluid, descriptive language in my own work.

And carving out time to just write definitely helps. It's hard to just sit down for an hour or so. You need time and focus, especially to get started. Sometimes I tell myself I can't do something until I write at least 3 pages.
In Response to Re: Ask a knottie.... : My favorite kind of rock is sold under the name 'Granite in Motion'. It's an orthoclase-rich (makes it kind of pink) granite mined in India. It cooled at two different stages, and underwent some kind of tectonic disruption during cooling. So, you have these big swooping streams of large-grained granite, frozen inside a finer-grained granite of the exact same color. It pretty much rules. I 'discovered' it when my parents remodeled their kitchen. I made them give me all the scraps. My favorite mineral is apatite. But, that's because I use it to tell me when a mountain range formed.

I was raised in WI, but both parents are from MN originally. I came back to Minneapolis to go to school, and just fell in love. I love that we have a real city, but it's not completely overwhelming. Also, I need four seasons. I need a few weeks of heat in the summer (although I could do without the 4 months of 80-90 degree weather we've had this year.) I need snow for Christmas, and I LOVE spring and fall.

Well I was born in Florida and just never left. I'm in Jax because it's where I went to school, and ended up staying when I met H. I like that I'm close to family, it's usually warm, and the beach is close by.
  • To all: Why do you live in the states/location that you live in? Name something great about living there! Is it family? Weather?

I've always lived in NC and always absolutely loved it. I'm in the region I'm in because FI's family has a business here, and that's where he works. Most of my family is an hour and a half away. FI's family is local. I love that we're a couple hours from the ocean, and a couple hours from the Appalachian mountains. I can love them both. I can snow ski one weekend, and kayak the next.

I grew up in Los Angeles, then lived in El Paso for several years. My employer moved our regional office to Colorado, so that's how I ended up here. I was just divorced at the time, so it was a good move for me and my daughters to get a new start. I really love it here for the climate and outdoor opportunities, and of course because I met DH here. We'll probably stay a long time.

I moved to South Dakota to be close to my grandmother and it seems like family kinda migrated with me. She died a few years ago and now the only thing keeping me here is my H's job. But that may be subject to change.

I love being able to see all the stars at night, going to apple orchards, having a horse, and the grand Midwest tradition of potlucks.

Well, if I wanted to marry my then-BF, Iowa it was. No, seriously, he owned a house, had a very steady job (had been there 12 years), and I was in an apartment, hated still living in the small town 2 miles from my ex-husband, and had only been teaching 3 years and was not getting along with my principal. It had it's down sides to the move, but - I've had 3 white Christmases in a row. Of course, I've also experienced 5 blizzards and haven't spent Christmas with my family in 3 years (the last time was 2006).

  • To all: Why do you live in the states/location that you live in? Name something great about living there! Is it family? Weather?

I grew up in Jersey, right around NYC and it's where I live and teach. FI moved here to be with me.

We love that we're so close to NYC and there's always something awesome to do, but yet we still have the shore and can see the ocean whenever (big for him since he's from the Midwest). The older I get, though, the more I'm over the traffic and ensuing rage. I'm also ready for a less expensive area. So we're planning on moving down the coast after we get married.

I love fall--it's my very favorite time of year. The weather is perfect, the clothes are to die for, I live for pumpkin/spice food, Christmas is right around the corner...Okay, so this was less about weather and more about my excitement for fall :)
  • I love having space and land. I would rather see plants than buildings, and I may freak out if I ever live somewhere that I can't see sky in all directions.
My family is all here, and both H and I have a lot of family responsibilities right now.

  • I love hearing about why people live where they live. It's so interesting to me because I could never see myself living in a place like SD, but when people talk about living there, it makes me think it could be a cool place!

I love city life. I used to live near Fenway Park and I miss it. I'm just outside of Boston now and it's a great area to raise Declan.
