Aww. Thanks for missing me. I miss you guys too. I've been swamped today because I took yesterday off to pretend to be a SAHM. I'm regretting it now. I'm also working on a big project at work that is making me a little crazy.
Steph - I know you've been asked about your bird before but I don't remember your answers.  What kind is it?  Is it loud?  Does it take much care? (FI has a parakeet that spends a lot of time out of its cage and hanging out on his shoulder, he keeps talking about getting another bird)
Posted by pirategal03
He's a blue masked lovebird, which is a blue variety of the black masked lovebird.

He isn't loud all the time, just at different times of the day.  Mostly morning and dusk, and when there is a lot of commotion around the house (phones ringing, people having conversations, etc.).  He does occasionally let out a really piercing shriek, but it's not that bad.

For the care part, I would say lovebirds are in the middle of the care spectrum.  They need more attention than a parakeet, but they don't take up a lot of time.  But it sounds like your FI already interacts with his parakeet regularly, so that is good that he's experienced with that.  I would not recommend getting a lovebird if you want the parakeet and the lovebird to play with each other.  Lovebirds are very bossy and they will run over the parakeet any chance they get, and they may even harm the parakeet.  Most lovebirds aren't scared of birds twice their size.  But they would be great pets if you kept them separately but in the same room.

• Jas that's pretty much Maine. I absolutely love it up there but it's really far from both of our families and if I moved away just before we had kids mom would kill me.

Here are a couple of shots from the back porch of Scott's family camp up there.

Wow from that angle he looks so much bigger than that!  We'd get a separate cage for another bird if we get one.  Our parakeet has been an only bird for about 5 years, we think it would be too much for him if we put another in the same cage.  But we do think he'd enjoy someone to "talk" to sometimes.  It's possible we just lucked out, but our bird loves to cuddle, so interaction is pretty easy, he sits on our shoulders and gets tangled up in my hair and he's perfectly happy.

I have lived in Ohio all my life. I lived in Springfield until a few years ago. I met DH and he used to live in Cincinnati, but 8 months in he moved to the Cleveland area. So we did the LDR thing for about 5 years till I moved up.

I cant think of anything great, my whole family is here. I hate the winters, but I do like fall and spring. Fall in Hocking Hills state park is the best.

Cleveland was rated last year as having the most snow accumulation of any state.

• I was born in Oregon and I see myself always being here. A huge chunk of my family came over by Oregon Trail, and one of my relatives came over with Lewis and Clark. I love all the green and nature here, you can drive 2 hours any direction for your choice of deep woods, waterfalls, mountains and snow, or beach. There are also amazingly quirky people attracted to Oregon, lots of artists and environmentalists.

Absolutley gorgeous Reddy. We will get there some day.
When we went to Napa one year we drove north quite a ways and then went west to pick up the Pacific Highway, ans drove down to San Fransico. It was stunning. We're doing it again next year.

Yeah, the picture is quite deceiving!  But he certainly has a huge personality.  I've had him almost 14 years (that makes me feel old), and we contemplated getting another bird, specifically a conure.  But I don't think he would react well to another bird in the house at all.  So, we will have a one bird house for the rest of his life.

FI is constantly talking about a green cheek conure.  I think a lorikeet would be a better next bird for us.  That disagreement is the main reason we haven't gotten one yet.

<div>Aww, this question makes me sad because I had a foot injury earlier this year that caused two stress fractures, two chip fractures, and a torn tendon. I went from a wheelchair to crutches to a boot to special ugly shoes, and I am just now getting back to normal. </div><div>
</div><div>On our HM, we looked through a hiking book that labeled hikes 1-10 and I wanted to do so many 8's! I picked a "1" though, and those are the pictures above, so it wasn't a loss :)</div><div>
</div><div>I have hiked about 10 miles at Silver Creek Falls, one of my favorite places in Oregon.</div><div>At work, before my injury, I was walking 15 miles every day we had an event (I work in an arena). FI works there too in a different department and walks usually twice as much as me, I'm not exaggerating either, we have pedometers and compete.</div>

Why did they stop selling lovebirds?  I remember both Petco and Petsmart used to have them, but I haven't been able to find them at pet stores for about 10 years in this area.  Taffers came from Petco (I think).

• Neat reading about where people live and why...

I live in ND because it's where I was born.  Went to college here too.  I live in Fargo because it's where I ended up getting a job.

A lot of people joke about getting the hell outta No-Dak, but even though it's the flattest, most boring terrain where I live (seriously, I think it's the flattest place in the world, you can watch your dog run away for three days) - it's actually a nice place to live people-wise.  People are just nicer here.  You see a lot more people turning in lost wallets or purses, letting people into traffic, holding the door open for others.  It's a state where you wave to people passing you on the highway even if you don't know them.  It's kinda like one big, small town - but really long streets.

The weather I could honestly do without.  It's fecking hot in the summer (90s to 100 sometimes) and the humidity is damn near terrible.  We do have four seasons - but spring sucks because it's mostly mud, fall is nice but it doesn't last long.  Then there's winter, which seems to last forever.  We joke that we have two seasons here - winter and road construction.  And the winter temps are horrid.  Imagine trying to start you car in the morning after  -20 degree temps all night, with a windchill of -50 blowing throw your car engine.  Nice.
To all: Why do you live in the states/location that you live in? Name something great about living there! Is it family? Weather?

I was born and have lived my whole life in southern NY, about 25 mins outside of NYC. I love being able to live in a suburban setting but still have quick access to NYC and several neighboring states (NJ, CT, PA).

I am not opposed to moving elsewhere but it will never be outside of the tri-state area.
