Unpop ops/flameable confessions

Re: Unpop ops/flameable confessions

  • Drinking and depression often go hand in hand.  I would guess that the doctor probably thinks he needs the meds to help him with his recovery.

[QUOTE]I saw some news article this week that kids born in october/november/december are more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD than older kids in their class. No shiit sherlock, in some cases theyre almost a year younger than the other kids. I think thats just bunk. I think ADHD itself is bunk.

I was born in October and I was always one of the oldest in my class, not the youngest. I missed the cutoff for starting the year before.

At that point I didn't have all the information TBH. At that point I was under the impression that we would have paychecks in our hands within the next couple of days. I had no clue the conversation that J had with all the teachers or the legal advice that would be given.  This whole situation has really changed my outlook on what's going on, I'll admit that.  But to me, striking is different because in the end, you most likely get what you deserve, so it's pointless and there's better alternatives.  They left compeltely (so no strike) because they were told they wouldn't be paid until May.  So, over a weeks pay? Yeah studnets need to come first.  Over 2 months pay? That changes the situation a bit in my eyes.

[QUOTE]I think a lot of the over-prescription of meds goes back to the generation of not learning disappointment, everyone gets a medal etc.  This generation never learned coping skills so now they 'need' all this medication and therapy.

This reminded me...This is also not directed at YOU, I'm using a general "you" lol.

If you're in a 4th year honours program and cannot handle doing presentation and seminar classes, maybe you should drop down to a BA or rethink what you're doing in a program that is related to public speaking (political science). I get some people are afraid of public speaking and stuff but maybe university isn't for you? Your classmates shouldn't have to do double the work because you can't pull your own weight in the program.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Unpop ops/flameable confessions : Thanks. H is totally in favor of me using them (so I don't break his hand while in the air), but I guess there is just the stigma. Last time I asked the doctor for them, he gave me a hard time and made me jump through a bunch of hoops. I have a new doctor now, but I'm just concerned they will do the same thing but not give me the meds, especially since I only need them for flying. And last time, I used the meds and meditation CDs, and it was still the longest 2 1/2 hours of my life!

Honestly, my initialy reaction was that you can definitely learn to cope during a plane flight.  However, on second thought, coping mechanisms work best when you can practice what works and what doesn't.  You gain confidence (and more calm) the more often you are faced with the situation and your coping skills work.  Since flying is probably something you do every once and awhile, taking the meds might be easier.

However, try to stay open to the idea of flying without them one day.  It might also be useful to identify what makes you so anxious about flying.  Is it the lack of control?  The fear of crashing?  Fear of heights?  It helps to know exactly what makes you so nervous.  But, in the end, it really is what works for you.
  • I have a bit of a flame/confession about teachers too (shocking I know).

It really aggravates me when the Canadians chime in on teacher/education debates in regards to the US.  Canada has one of the best education systems in the world.  You people test in the top effing 5.  You really have no idea how our education system works, and to comapre the 2 is just stupid.  Either educate yourself on the American education system or stfu about it.

</div><div>I don't know what it is, honestly. I don't like heights at all, but it's not really that. The fear of crashing is slight, because I'm always of the mind set that, if we did crash, there's not much I can do to stop it anyway. I know plane crashes are actually rare, and that hundreds of thousands of people fly every day. I used to be fine with flying and even look forward to it, and have flown by myself before. Hell, my FIL flies probably twice a month.</div><div>
</div><div>But over the last few flights, it's gotten worse and worse. Last time I had to get on a plane, I had an almost complete break down. Pacing, shaking, couldn't breathe, crying. I mean, I made it with the help of the meds, meditation, and H, but I certainly had a rough time. I'm beginning to practice the meditation more to prepare, but I can't really practice since I never feel that feeling unless I'm getting ready to fly.</div><div>

I still think ADHD is bunk. As far as im concerned, it was created by helicopter parents in the 90s.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Unpop ops/flameable confessions : Flameable confession: I wish people would educate themselves on what taking antibiotics for an infection that is not bacterial does to their bodies.  After suffering from tons of sinus infections that were not being successfully treated with antibiotics, I finally had a competent doctor inform me that most sinus infections are not bacterial, but viral, and taking antibiotics wouldn't do a thing to cure them.  If your doctor won't give you antibiotics, it's because the risks of taking them (developing antibiotic resistance, side effects of the antibiotic itself) outweighs the benefit of taking them (which is none if it's viral).   I get irrationally angry when people beg for antibiotics from their doctor, especially if it's for something clearly viral, like the flu or a cold.

I also agree. The vast vast majority of sinus infections are viral. It is my understanding there are occasional bacterial ones, but it is few and far between.

</div><div>I keep trying to tell my sister this. She is absolutely dead set on taking antibiotics at the slightest sneeze. It's <em>bad. </em> I try to avoid taking antibiotics at all costs, but I can get a little weird and preachy about the over use of antibiotics. I don't understand why my sister's doctor gives in and prescribes a z-pack every month.
