I name everything too. H thinks I'm either crazy or part-child.

I used to drive my boss crazy when I rehabbed shorebirds. I'd name every one that came in and they didn't like that. We lost a lot of them, so naming them made it too personal. Me, I'd rather be personal with the animals I'm caring for rather than seeing them like just a number.

Seshat I did that with all the adoption cats at my store, and named everything that went into our sick room. My DM once commented that I was the only person who put names on the treatment logs for the sick ones. I'm sorry but it's much easier for me to say "Hey associate, how is Snaggletooth going?" then "Hey associate, how is the black hamster with the misaligned teeth"?

Unrelated to eating animals, DH used to work with pigeons when he was doing his PhD.  There were 12 males and instead of using their numbers, he gave them names.  He used the names of the Rat Pack, Frat Pack, and Brat Pack.

Him:  good, except Anthony Michael Hall was being a pain in the ass.
