  • I'm fascinated by the concept of a door-to-door meat salesman.  Does he travel with a freezer truck?

There's a car that goes by our house sometimes and it beeps, as it goes by it beeps loudly once a second to a second and a half, and I don't know wtf it is! Every time I get to the window its gone and I can't see it anymore. There is also an icecream truck of some kind that drives around playing this tinkleing music and I can always hear the music in warm months but I've NEVER in 4 years seen it. Wtf is up with that?!
  • Steph- I don't know? He is this random guy wearing jorts and a ratty t-shirt and brags about how thick his steaks are. I don't want steak!

  • We live across the street from a Baptist church. Every so often, they go door-to-door. Without realizing it, I totally screwed us over.

One evening, I was sitting in the garden, drinking mint juleps and reading a trashy romance novel. H was inside, getting another beer for himself. I walked back in and yelled at the top of my lungs, "Hey, I'm sobering up! I need more liqour so I can get back to my pornography!"

The ladies from the church were at the door with H. We now get extra attention.

Haha Special, that's awesome. Well, not awesome that they bug you more, but you know what I mean.

When I first moved here I was floored by the numbers of Baptist churches around.  I clearly did not grow up in the South.

If he did, I would definitely let me dogs out. But for real, with H deploying soon this dude makes me nervous. I don't want him to keep coming and then notice my H's car never outside or something.

I think you should never answer the door to this guy ever again.  This sounds like the opening scene to a lifetime movie that ends very, very badly.

Hike, I would be an asshole and just refuse to open the door for him.  Even if he sees you through the window. Hopefully he will get the hint eventually.
    image
  • Hike, you can tell him to get off your property and never come back. If he harasses you, call the cops.

Buying meat out of a truck from some dirty dude does not strike me as a responsible action. I bet he's hassling other people, and probably doesn't have a permit to sell door-to-door. My town's police force is oversized for the area, so they seem to have tons of free time to deal with people like him.

  • LP- thank god we don't have a window in the front of the living room or by the door. They are all in the back so he can't see. I know not to answer the door, I was just an idiot today. I'm going to put up the sign and also call his "company" and tell them to stop coming by.

Nope, we rent off. There is actually a sign at the beginning of our neighborhood that says no soliciting but obviously that doesnt matter.

OMG the ice cream trucks. There are 4 in our neighborhood, playing 4 different tinkly out of tune songs, they start before noon and don't stop until 9 sometimes. Also they started in MARCH. On days I am home I want to throw rocks at them.

My brother used to tell phone solicitors that he couldn't talk to them because we didn't have a phone,. It didn't keep them from calling back 2 weeks later, but it was funny.

  • I have an irrational irritation.  My Fi and I have been engaged about a year now.  We are getting married in August.  My brother and his now-fiancee just got engaged a month ago. Yay - so we are super excited for them, there are 9 months between our very different weddings - everything is great.  Except when they got engaged, my brother tried to call me that night and I had already gone to bed - I get up early and it was like 10pm and the phone was off - the next morning when I saw he had called, I figured I'd call him at 3 when he was out of work  (it was like 4:30am at the time).  His fiancée then beat me to it and texted me the next day - to tell me the news because she had already told all her friends (and also put up a facebook post like 15 minutes after she told me).

Now they have set a date and she posts something on facebook about it and needing to tell family - BEFORE they told the family.  Anyhow after trying to reach him 3 or 4 times, I give up.  While at work that night, I miss a call from him - and get a text from her saying "we set the date blah blah blah."  Im semi-rationally irritated at my brother for not just telling me himself and irrationally irritated with his fiancée for her extreme sharing on FB.  its just damn annoying.

You're right, I didn't answer his call.  Truthfully, I wasn't super available (at sleep, at work with no reception), but I don't feel like he tried very hard either.  At that point, I had been trying to reach him for 3 or 4 days to ask him about being in our wedding.  I wasn't mad he didn't get back to me right away - we usually just go back and forth with phone tag until it works.   I guess really I just feel a little disappointed to hear the news from her rather than him, ya know?
