I'm with you, Duds - Target is a giant money suck.

PSA - if you get their Red Debit card you get the same 5% discount as the credit card. Works exactly like the debit card that I would use anyway, but with a discount.

• I only have 1 purse that I use, but I do have a couple of the messenger-type bags, mostly from when I was in school. And I have one from Animal Kingdom that I just had to have when we went there for vacation.

I do splurge a bit when it comes to book stuff. I'm willing to pay extra to have the professionals do stuff for me (formatting, artwork, etc) than try to save and do it myself (and inevitably screw it up). I think that's what I spend most of my money on, book stuff, whether actually making them or marketing at events.

In Response to Re:WFL and money talk:
And it sounds like we splurge on a lot, but I cook a lot at home. Our grocery bills are manageable because I buy whole ingredients and use them all for high quality meals instead of buing prepackaged processed stuff. Yes, we still eat out some, but not nearly as often as we used to. I pay more for local ingredients as well. I think its good for my environment, my fellow Austinites, and our economy. Local goat cheese is 2 more per 6oz portion, but it tastes MUCH better than imported stuff, I know I'm supporting my neighbors, and because of the taste factor, I can use less to get the same result.nbsp; Posted by SarahPLiz
I agree with this 100 percent. Other than rice, pasta, some soup and soy, we don't buy a ton of not whole foods.
I can't imagine going back to processed meats, sidekicks and not fresh veg.
• Rach- what happened with the HM flights?

• Is it weird that I love Levi's jeans? I thought everyone wore Levi's but I found out recently that almost no one does.

I was skeptical about their new fit system, but I found that I found a size and fit that really work for my stupid butt.
• Lunch is a Progresso soup, Chobani yogurt.

I'm stingy with my money, I buy my clothes at the outlet store or wait till Ann Taylor/Loft are having a sale.

When it comes to food,eh, my H foots the bill and I dont look at prices much. If I have a coupon I use it, but the grocery store we use is considered a "boutique" store. We eat a lot of salmon, which we splurge on, as well as organic foods.

I am a little more lax when I'm spending H's money rather than mine. And if I really want something, he will buy it for me.

• I found a pair of KUT jeans at the rack for $30. They retail for about $80. I really liked the fit.
• Arwo, Levis have always fit me best. But I hate buying new jeans. I don't like the "new jeans" feeling. I like when they are slightly stretched and more comfy.
• Walmart is not the cheapest store out there. People just assume they are, which I too was one of those people. When I moved I started paying closer attention to the ads and sales at other stores. By doing that I have lowered my grocery bill by $25/week by NOT going to walmart. I mostly do Kroger and Meijer now. And the produce and meat selection is so much better and better priced!

Just because they say they're the cheapest doesn't mean anything.
• We buy Suave shampoo and conditioner. I guess H and I are lucky with our hair since my friends always talk crap about Suave and how it ruins their hair. I would die if we had to pay $5-$10 on shampoo! Embarassed
• Rach- that does sound pretty awful. I'm glad we were able to get pretty decent flights. FWIW, our "HM" is actually 5 months after the wedding so thats not so bad.
In Response to Re: WFL and money talk : So funny you say that! A CW and I were just talking about how she still wears her maternity jeans and just folds down the band because they're so comfortable. She gave up all her other maternity clothes except that pair of jeans.

These ones just have a really thin panel. Basically, where the top hem (with the belt loops are) is stretch. Not one of those massive panel things that goes over the whole belly. I'm in love with them.
• I have never found the perfect pair of jeans. I think I need to get my body in some kind of shape and then I'll find them. I'm shaped like a square (no waist hip differential, even when I'm thinner) with a ghetto booty and a muffin top. If they fit in the waist, I don't have enough hips to fill them out. If they fit in the hips, they are too tight in the waist. My current work pants are from the Limited. Every time I sit down, they roll down under my belly and I have to pick them back up when I stand up. It is SO aggravating.

• I shop at Winn-Dixie. I don't think they are more expensive than Walmart on most products (produce aside) and their store brands are just as good as the "real" brands.

Mostly, I love their gas rewards program. I got $.50 off the gallon last time I went.
• Yeah, I like my broken-in jeans too, Sesh. And it takes so long to get them just right!

I generally only buy new clothes when the old ones are falling apart or unwearable.
• Potato skin pizza.

Just had this talk with FI about how tough it is for me to *splurge* on something that either isn't an appreciating asset, doesn't pay off revolving debt or won't benefit our family. Not that I won't, but it's hard to talk myself into it. I heart Suze Orman maybe that has something to do with it.

radleyboo - ditto. last week is when I finally let go of my 1995 pathfinder even though I bought a newer car. if my mechanic hadn't said it will give out and you might be driving it at the time, I swear I'd still be truckin.

Oh, also - I will splurge on furniture, but I will search high and low for the best price possible. My parents are so good at this and instilled it in me. They have a Thomasville dining room set that is valued at about $20,000. They found it on Ebay and paid less than $4,000 for it. And it's in perfect condition. Their bedroom set is valued at about $10,000 and they got in on CL for under $3,000, also in perfect condition. Their house looks like a show room, but they found every single thing in it for super cheap.

Me too. I was going to say this and then thought everyone would think I looked like a hobo so I didn't. I just never think about buying new clothes until I need to.
• We're going all the way to NY to fly out for our honeymoon. It saved us about $800 total so it was worth it to me. We'll either take the train up that day (evening flight) or stay with my father the night before in CT.

• Shan that's funny because Suave is actually one of the better non-salon shampoo/conditioners out there.

I had wheat thins and a cheese stick for lunch.

• I've never though about buying furniture on CL or anything like that. Although I wouldn't be looking at 10-15k sets or anything. When we do buy new living room furniture it will probably be that whole living room dealy, like 12 pieces for $1k from Ashley.

I went into the office and sat down on the ottoman while T was ironing this morning. I just sort of let out a sigh, he was like, "don't worry, we'll get you some new clothes soon". hahah. I wasn't even sighing b/c of what I was wearing or anything, just sighing to sigh. But yea, I need some new stuff. I haven't bought anything since last summer.

We always end up doing big shopping trips. We keep saying we'll try harder to just buy a piece here and there but we just aren't mall browsers so it's hard. It's all or nothing.

Well, I admitted to wearing clothes until they are holey beyond repair so if you look like a hobo, I'll join you on that bench. The elbows of my favorite jackets are holey (I think because of work, I have my elbows on the desk a lot) and my jeans are always ripped at the hems. Some of my favorite clothes have paint on them, or ink stains.

Most of H's clothes are torn or stained, due to his job. I get so irritated when I buy him new stuff and he wears it to work. NO H! Those are nice clothes, not work clothes! He just grabs whatever is there and then I yell at him.

• I honestly have no issues with Walmart, but maybe that's because I have a shiny new SuperWalmart down the street from my house. I usually go around 7 or 8 in the evening when there are less "People of Walmart" that are apt to be there, and I'm usually in and out in 20 minutes.

I'm looking forward to Target coming to Canada - it will give us some other options.

• I brought a lean cuisine for lunch, I'm slacking on the lunch planning this week.

I will bargain shop with the best of them at the grocery store. Whatever I have a coupon for or whatever is cheapest. So I scrimp there so I can splurge on going out to nicer places. I'm kind of all over the place with clothes. I will just as easily shop at Ross as I will at Nordstrom rack. I would consider it a real splurge to shop at actual Nordstroms.

• Man, I am falling asleep at my desk. I can't believe I have to be here another 2.5 hours then go home and do another hour.

We ahve 2 Walmarts nearby. The one in the nicer area is great. Clean, bright, busy but not irritatingly so. The one on hooker and crackhead road, downright scary. Last time I was there, when I left a car has up on the sidewalk and four cops were holding a guy down right in front of the doors while he screamed at a chick hiding behind another cop. I haven't been back since.
• I don't have Wal-Marts near me. The nearest one is about 10-15 miles. I generally don't shop there and if I do I go on a Saturday morning. They want to open one on the outskirts of downtown but it would be like an express Wal-Mart whatever that is. I don't think it is going to happen though. I prefer target especially since there is one 2mins from my work.
