Workout Accountability: Wednesday

Morning ladies!

Yesterday went well but I went over my calories because I made some chocolate chip cookies for FI (his favorite.)  I tried a new recipe, and of course had to taste one, but it was not my favorite so it should be easy to pass up on the rest of the batch.

FI and I rolled out of bed early to complete cardio synergistics before the intense heat.  It's supposed to be 99 today with a heat index of 110. Ew.

How are you all doing today?

Re: Workout Accountability: Wednesday

  • Good morning..The rest of yesterday was BAD with food..I kind of didn't want to "hold back" anything, to have an average number of how many calories I truly am consuming. Well, a rough estimate was between 2,000-2,500. I'm glad I didn't try and "diet" yesterday so I can plainly see that obviously it's been difficult to lose weight because of the amount of calories I have been taking in.

I did lose 0.5, however..Assuming it's water weight. Today will be much better, hopefully, on my diet and I'm getting ready to head back to the gym.

QUESTION - What kinds of Heart Rate Monitors (With Calorie Counters) do you ladies recommend? I was doing research on them yesterday and the reviews were terrible. I would like one that is very simple to use (if it's difficult I may just put it aside and never use it) and relatively comfortable/small or specifically for women.

Yesterday I got a new job, today will be sitting at a computer doing orientation, but the job itself is pretty physically demanding so I'm looking forward to that.  And, who's kidding, a paycheck ;)  Didn't weigh in this morning, still trying to figure out a pre-work exercise schedule. But, with now having said job, the FI and I were able to afford our wedding present to eachother, she's 6 weeks old, black and white husky (a little mix up the family tree but you can't tell other than a few freckles on her nose), we've both wanted one for years. We got her yesterday afternoon, so needless to say I didn't get a lot of sleep last night ;) Technically we bought her, but given the conditions of the environment she was in, I see it more as a rescue :(  I'll be outside more taking her for walks and exercising my balance as she tries to trip me up, and chasing after her when she tries to chew on everything ;)  The cats aren't impressed ;)  But after I get home I'll be trying to get in a good workout.  I had to pick up some pants at Goodwill yesterday to hold me until my uniforms come in, and everything that was in theory my size was no way going to work.  Had to go up a size, along with what the Wii told me about my weight yesterday, I wanted to cry in the dressing room. Today I'm going to focus on eating a good breakfast and bringing a healthy lunch and snacks and resisting the urge to run home on my lunch to check on the puppy who doesn't have a name yet ;)

  • Morning,

Still sick, tried going for a walk last night but between the heat/humidity, my chest infection and general lack of energy I didn't go far-I was literally out of breath and coughing un controllably after a few blocks-LAME

I did come close to my smoking goal. I only wanted to have 2 yesterday and I had 2.5
aiming for only 2 today, I am only on day 3 of the program (its 12 weeks in total) so I am still happy with my progress.

OH My Goodness he is so CUTE!!!  Congrats on the job and new puppy!
Just a thought...the part that I bolded, if the conditions were so bad would you consider reporting the people? I have had a bit of involvement in animal rescue and it starts with the "bad" breeders (there are many great breeders out there), you can generally make anonymous calls.  In the end it could save an animal(s) from terrible conditions.

  • Souptin- it had crossed our minds, we don't know if they were trying to breed or if it just happened, they had several dogs of various breeds at the house.  We're going to be keeping an eye for any future listings and if they pop up again, likely making a phone call :/

  • Btflbride, I use a Polar FT4. It's super simple to use. It has a chest strap, but it's very comfy, and gives a more accurate count than the wristwatch type. This morning was abs and back followed by a 2 mile run. I treated myself to a movie rental, some wine and a handful of chocolate covered pretzels last night. It was nice and relaxing so no regrets there.
  • @souptin - I quit last September. Good for you! I know how hard it is. You will see such an improvement in your work outs once you fully quit and in just how you feel in general. I still get major cravings whenever I have a drink ugh! Does that happen to you? Anyways, You go girl - stay strong!

@pom - LOVE the puppy! How adorable!

So I signed up for this 5k on Saturday. I don't usually run outside. I tried today and total fail. I made it 2 miles before I gave up. There were a ton of hills where I was running and I am so not used to it. I am pretty nervous about being able to do the 5k on Saturday now :( Feeling discouraged today blegh

  • Mari, I've been considering a 5k also. 2 miles is great! I can only run two miles straight since like last week. Plus, from what I understand , you don't need to run the whole thing, or even any of it. There are people who just walk.
  • Pom, what an adorable puppy!!

I'm having a rough week.  Little time to exercise this week unless I get up early, which generally doesn't happen.  And my first fitting is tomorrow so I wish I could amp up rather than down with the exercise.  I went out with a friend to eat yesterday and so calories also weren't good.  Hoping today will be better!!

Thank you Zero. I run 3-4 miles straight without stopping a few times a week, but it's always on the treadmill. I'm not used to doing it outside, but how different can that really be?? Just feeling disappointed. The run is on my birthday and I wanted to be able to do the whole thing without stopping!

  • pomundson - congrats on the new job AND the awesome looking puppy!

Yesterday my friend ended up cancelling on me for dinner, so I did get gym time. I did 20 minutes on the stairmaster and 30 on the elliptical. By the end I was starving so I didn't go quite as long as I wanted to.

Tonight is our shopping trip of epic proportions (we have a 20% off grocery coupon at the local grocery store, so we made a list of every non-perishable item we could get for the wedding - we'll be in the store for at least 2 hours lol), so that will have to count as exercise (might be able to squeeze a walk in this afternoon if it doesn't rain)

  • Pom the puppy is adorable. Lots of excitement yesterday. I looked out the back window and spotted Tag the missing kitty in the alley. I was able to lure him to me with treats but he wouldn't let me touch him. FI came close to catching him once as well but no luck. Good to know he's alive and staying close to home. Wanted to go swim today but was too tired when the alarm went off. Will make today a rest day instead.

Hey ladies! Last night went well and I even signed up at lifetime fitness! So now I have a gym membership! Super excited bc I have a couple gfs who go there too so I'm hoping that will help me stay motivated! Today I'm up for a new challenge my 4 5 yr/old niece and nephew will be staying with me until Sunday so staying on the wagon with kids concerns me a little lol If anyone had any good kid foods, snacks or projects let me know! Congrats on the new job and puppy! This board is really helping so I wanted to thank you all :
  • mari - are you keeping a close eye on your pace?  I always end up running faster outside than on the treadmill, simply by accident, and it always shortens my distance as a result.

  • I had a miserable afternoon yesterday so I had a beer last night.  Shouldn't have put me over my calories, really, but I felt guilty for not exercising.

Today I walked to the gym and back and also did 30 minutes on the reclining bike and 30 minutes of strength training.  Eating's been okay so far; I have training for my second job this afternoon that I worry about but I can pack my own lunch so hopefully that will help!

I'm bummed though; I don't think I'll be walking to my gym much longer. I get sexually harassed on my way back (I don't live in the best part of town) and some guy called me a b.itch today cause I wouldn't tell him my name.  Saying hello is one thing but come on!  FI doesn't want me walking alone anymore.

  • Mari – what five 5K are you doing?  I am doing the Mud Factor in September and it looks like a blast.  I am not a runner by any means, so this is a whole new experience for me!  I am loving it!  Can definitely see a difference. I like running outside because it seems to go faster, but it’s been so hot here I stick to the treadmill. Today was my weigh-in day and I lost 2 pounds!  26.5 down and 24.5 more to go!  I am over my half way mark and back in the 170’s. Today is my rest day and then I’ll be back at it again tomorrow shooting for a shorter time on my 2 mile.

  • I took 5 days off from working out - I was pretty worn out as of last week Thursday and then went back to MN for a weekend of wedding planning. This morning was a session with my trainer and I felt off the entire time - lethargic. I hate coming back from a break and can't wait to get back to feeling great. My eating was not the best this weekend - was at home with my parents and had one of my bridal showers. Was bloated on Monday - but have just about lost all that water weight over the last couple of days. In a funk and can't wait for it to pass! I guess you have to have the bad weeks to have the good weeks (ying and yang).

Eating has been back on track as of Monday - so starting to feel "clean" again (clean eating). Now just need to get back into the regular workouts.
  • There's a festival here this weekend called Ten Ugly Men. I have no idea why they named it that lol. It benefits several local charities. The 5k race is at the start of the festival on Saturday.

  • I did day 12 of 30DS this morning, Level 2 is seriously kicking me in the butt first thing in the morning.  Bridal Bootcamp tonight, kinda excited about that one!  Free weights and abs last night.

Just had a visit from one of the students (I work at a graduate program) who is a great person and someone I can't wait to be friends with when she graduates!  But we were talkingabout the motivation I have versus what she has and how I got to where I am now.  So luckily I have some photos in my work folder and showed her the "old Renee" and her eys about bugged out of her head.  Nothing movitates me more than that reaction.

    @pomundso -- CUTEST PUPPY!  Congrats!

To the 5k runners ... good luck!  You can do it!

Today I got up and did insnaity. It supposed to be my recovery week and starting month 2 next week but I just don't feel like I'm ready to start month two. i was thinking of repeating the last two weeks of month 1 to build up more to month 2 but not sure. Hopefully this afternoon going rock climbing again!

  • @Sunrise- Do you have pictures we can see?  I don't know if you have shared them here before but I love seeing before and after pictures.  I'm thinking I may need to pick up my workout schedule.  The couch to 5K is supposed to be 3 days a week with rest days in between.  What can I do on the days that I don't do the 5K training?

  • Hi Everyone!

souptin- Congrats on the progress, quitting smoking seems to be no easy task. Every little bit counts!

erbear- Thats awful! No wonder you won't be walking to the gym anymore!

mari- Running outside from what I've noticed is much harder. You have the rough terrain and while you can adjust the treadmill to include hills its not quite the same as phsyically running a road with hills. Also, the air quality is much different than that of a gym. I've noticed I breathe better indoors when I run. As PP's mentioned too, its easy to lose track of your pace outside because your distracted by nature/houses/people and you control your pace rather than the treadmill controlling your pace. Once you get used to it you will notice a huge difference!

Yesterday we did some yard work where the ceremony will be and I swam. Eating was great we had grilled haddock and veggies for dinner. Today is my first fitting and I'm having dinner with my MOH afterwards so today is rest day for me and food will be so-so depending on if I splurge at dinner! But, I'm so excited because this morning marked my lowest weight that I've been since college and to have done it naturally and healthily I'm pretty excited :)
  • Hello Ladies, Happy Wednesday!

Pomus- Congratulations on the new job and puppy! She is a doll!

Souptin - I hope you feel better soon. This weather is horrid to say the least.

Maribeth - Good Luck Saturday, I'm sure you'll do great!

Scheff - Congratulations on your weight, and good luck at your fitting today!

As for me I ran on the elliptical last night after work. I'm slowly coming back into my half ironman training after last week's flare. Tonight we're going to inspect the house we're renting, if I'm not too exhuasted Ill put 30-40 in on the bike this evening as well before homework. My accounting class was canceled tonight so atleast I can get an extra hour of sleep.

@ joe&cassie - You don't NEED to do something on those days but you certainly can do something on those days if you want to. If you're new to running and cardio in general I would avoid any high impact cardio work outs on your off running days. Do you weight train at all? You could weight train on the days that you are not doing c25k. Cycling or another low impact cardio exercise is another option for 1 or 2 of your off days. I don't really like work out DVDs but a lot of people on this board love some and maybe can give you advice on good ones to use on your off days. Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the encouragement on the 5k guys!!

  • Thanks to everyone for your kind support yesteday. Just such a bummer when you go awhile without results. I tried to tackle some of the possible issues yesterday. I coughed of the $50 for a massage to try to relieve some of the stress. I followed it up with a huge amount of water. I also tried to switch up my foods a bit. I have been eating pretty much the same things every day for breakfast and lunch for the past month, and then variety for dinner and weekends. I traded my raisin bran and yogurt for oatmeal and fruit and my salad for a Garden Lites soufle (A GREAT use of 140 cal, BTW), yogurt, and pita with humus. I am going to try to conitinue to get more variety in my foods for breakfast and lunch and more water every day and see what that does.

  • @ joe&cassie - When I did C25K I didn't do anything on my rest days. I only did it 3 times per week, followed immediately by weight training. Like Mari said, if you wanted to you could do weight training on the non-C25K days if you feel like you want to do something active those days. Now that I am used to more activity, I get some in every day - do what feels right! Just don't work out so hard on off days that you can't complete the C25K workout :)

Little late posting today, but it's all good. I'm keeping eating on track, took the dog for a good 2.5km walk and will go on a bike ride later on. Getting my hair done this afternoon so I'm excited for that!

    Have a good day everyone!

    Hey Ladies :)

So I posted earlier today but it disapeared.  Anyone else ever had that issue?  I'm kinda bummbed about it b/c I had a question for you all!

Pom: congrats on the puppy and job! Jealous of both!

Erbear: that sounds awful! That really sucks that other's choices are affecting you!  Just keep at it any way you can (I wouldn't walk to the gym either) stay safe!

PPs:This sounds silly but how does one control your pace?  I guess I have never thought of that being a factor before lol I always just run until I cant.  Any suggestions on how to start?

Yesterday went well.  I followed my diet and joined Lifetime Fitness with a gf! Super excited but today I have a new challenge!  My niece and nephew (4&5) are staying with me through Saturday and I was wondering if any of you knew any awesome healthy kid friendly meals or snacks or foodie projects that we can make!  My FI wants to bake cupcakes with them but thats not on the agenda for my diet so I was wondering if you all had some ideas!
