I just found out that I have been driving without my license for over a week...and we traveled to the other side of Texas for Thanksgiving. And while I finally have my license with me, I don't have my credit card or any cash on me.

A girl I work with that has NO experience in management has been promoted to a 'lead' role, which around here is like a mini-supervisor. No real power, just a department liason/facilitator. I am the supervisor of a different department, and work with her often, and have for the past 3 years in different capacities. Well, she has come OFF her rocker. She is running around throwing her fake 'power' around, micro-managing and belittling people in my department and in hers openly. I am just about fed up with having to hear about (and deal with!) the complete mess of drama she has created. UGH!

I was called a Grinch about a week ago because I wouldn't let someone into the Secret Santa at school because she submitted her form late. We had already drawn names and I wasn't going to do it again. It wasn't personal. This person also called me un-Santa like. I told her that even Santa has deadlines. She then proceeded to complain to someone else. In her honor, I have ordered a Grinch t-shirt to wear next week. It says "I hate Christmas". Yeah, I'm passive-agressive like that.

I have no idea. To be honest, I looked and thought "I wouldn't pay $50-60 for those". I can find pajama pants and tank tops for $20 total. To be totally honest, I think VS is one of those stores that's just out of control and full of itself. What other store has their own Christmas special? Really.

I flame crappy parenting. I don't have any kids so I really am not in a true place to judge, but I have read about a lot of terrible parenting this week on this board from people you girls know or even strangers you have seen. I have also seen in my own life this week examples of selfish behavior on the part of a parent costing their children dearly.

I also want to flame crying at work. I am so tired of people crying and I am also tired of it being something to almost brag on for male managers that they have "made pretty much every girl in the office cry at some point." Girls - stop crying, it's not helping you professionally. Men - stop bragging about it, it makes you a jerk.

An additional flame, and this one is a little touchy (I'm in a grouchy mood today so I am thankful for FFF as a place to vent). I flame parents who put their child on the Angel Tree and put outrageous things like gaming systems and computers. I know that that may be something that your kid wants, but I'm not made of money either. I'd rather help out a kid who wants educational toys or clothes or something that isn't electronic. I know I sound cheap/shallow/whatever, but IMO I feel like these kids are a little selfish.... /end rant

We saw a 15 mo. old who "wanted" an MP3 player. Like I said the other day, I hope it was a misprint (I can't remember if there were other children in the family) and not someone trying to scam a gift using their kid. Teenagers, I can kind of understand. But a 15 mo. old can barely tell you who their parents are.

I always adopt an angel online, and then take the gifts back to the mall. I'm looking online and the only thing I see is to donate money or go to the mall to adopt an angel. Did they stop letting people find a kid to adopt online?

Michelle,
I don't know about online. We usually go to North Park because they have so many Angels there on the tree. We tried going to several other malls last year and they didn't have any.

If you can't make it through a movie in a theater without checking your phone every ten minutes or talking over the movie with your two BFFs, then you shouldn't have gone to a movie on your girls' night out. Seriously, you and the BFFs were worse than the teenagers I saw the last Harry Potter movie with. You and the BFFs probably gripe and moan about how you can't get your kids' phones out of their hands to just talk to you but you're just as bad--if not worse--than they are. Ugh.

She said to me not 20 minutes ago..."Doesn't he realize that I'm a MANAGER?? He can't say things like that to me!"
My response: "Well, to be fair, you're not a manager. Furthermore, he isn't in your department and what you were telling him was a complete contradiction of the policy I created for my department. It will probably be best moving forward if you stick to your department." She walked off pouting. Boo freakin hoo. Know your role and get the F out my space, stick to what you know. Since she's been an infant though she has always slept with music playing in the background, so I can see how parents might want an mp3 player to play music for their infant. But who knows.

I haven't done the angel tree in a few years, but they usually give you a list of things they "need" and things they "want" right? I can see how someone might rather buy things that seem more like a necessity though--like clothes, scarves, gloves, or items that are more clearly educational. One of the things I liked about the Angel Tree though was how there was usually a pretty good range of gift requests, so you can choose according to your own priorities or budget. So I guess personally I wouldn't want to fault someone for asking for something like a laptop or whatever, because the earlier kids are able to start learning how to use technology, the more comfortable and skilled they're going to be with it as they get older. But I see where you guys are coming from.

Shortgirl,
The Angel Tree usually has elderly people too but they didn't have very many this year. Last year we got two kids under 10, a teenager, and two elderly people. I mean, one of them wanted a frying pan and the other wanted some slippers, so we couldn't really pass them by. This year, we got two teenagers, an older man (not even 60 yet), and eight kids. Our older guy wanted a clock radio and a blanket. We bought (or will buy) the need item and something as close as possible to the want listed. We also got clothes for everyone. Most of the needs were coats or tennis shoes but the two youngest kiddos needed car seats.

Next, they were going through the kids wish list... which includes: Britney Spears Curious Purfume, black Nike tennis shoes, Abercrombie jeans, iTouch, bicycles for each child and gift cards. My grandmother asked if she could just get regular black shoes, or some cheaper purfume... and the lady had the nerve to say "No, you can't... they won't like it and it will go in the garbage if you do."Posted by bsn1752[/QUOTE]

WHAT?! I'm so disgusted with people. I can't even put into words how angry this makes me. If your kids have such specific 'needs' then why the heck don't you buy it yourself. I would hope that if they're requesting help, then they truly need it, and I can sympathize wanting to give a child only the best. But if you can't provide it, maybe its time for a lesson in reality/expectation/being grateful for what you have?! I can remember plenty of christmases/birthdays where our gifts weren't extravagant, but we knew thats what our parents could afford, and we were grateful for it. geez, i'm getting soooo heated over this!

On a better note - to restore a little faith in humanity - part of my job is awarding the prizes of sweepstakes that my company runs. One winner received a $400 gift card last week and wrote me an email saying he was so excited to have won, but he and his wife had a particularly good year (in spite of the economy), so they gave the gift card to a single mother with 3 children instead. I have to admit, I got a little choked up. Why can't there be more people like this in the world?! (and more like your grandmother Brianna!)
